dude this video is like a treasure tomb to me! damn I wish I was grew up with video stores like this. it's so nice to see a tribute to this specific place that create a lot of good memories to people. (I just wish I had the chance to visit a place like this at least once tho)
As with anything nostalgic, you dont. Either the movie you wanted wasn't there, the blurb in the back was a lie, or even worse:they were closed.
Sometimes, you got judged for some of the movie choices you make by the clerks. That's real.
Weird how many are from the 2000's. I wonder if it's because filmmakers making movies then were wanting to set scenes in their favorite place.
It could be because, kids in the 80s grew up when these were new, worked in video stores in the 80s and 90s, and when they grew up by the 00s and 2010s, they became professional artists, and they decided to make stories in these places because they imagined stories happening in these places.
Video stores were still fairly common in the 2000s, Blockbuster still had 4,000 stores in the United States at the start of 2010. But I'm sure you're right that some of it is people who had grown up with video stores or worked in video stores were making movies by that point
i went to the video store a lot as a kid in the 2000s, we went until redbox became a thing, and then we got netflix
I feel the 2000s movies were very self aware and reflecting on society maybe that played a role.

A lot of movies and TV shows shown were in the early 2000s. As a kid I loved going to the video store and renting movies and video games.

Thanks, probably not the best for the CZcams algorithm to go a year between uploading videos, and then upload something totally different from my more popular videos, but I'm not overly worried about that. Planning to make more videos, will see if I actually manage to get anything else up here in 2022
Some of my best childhood memories came from going to video stores like Blockbuster and Family Video.
I am glad The Holiday (2006) made it.
If you look up Third rock from the sun they had an episode or more where they were inside a video store, also Parker Lewis can't loose where his parents owned a video store. If you do a part 2 make sure to include these. :)

I was hoping to see Trueblood, Eric and Pam owned a video store. Sugar n Spice, Jack (Diane’s boyfriend) worked at a video store. SATC Miranda hadn’t had $ex in awhile so she rented videos to kill time.

slime city, there's nothing out there, terror on tape, fade to black, the toxic avenger part lll, the barn part ll & the dead next door all have vhs tape scenes in vhs shops I believe. was sugar & spice in there?

Are we actually the first generation (current) to objectively admit that life was better when we were kids?
People were more social, politics were more balanced and less extreme, the news felt trustworthy and valid, prices were lower, more time outside the home doing activities, more optimism, the internet was not overly present, the games were excellent, not having a phone on you was normal and people were generally less emotionally charged and calmer overall, less likely to be offended by the slightest things…
