    10 years later ''fight clubs'' started springing up all across the world. 30 years later the same message is as vital as ever.
    Truly visionaries, years ahead of their time.
    We are treading on the footprints of giants.

    Robert Bly was ahead of his time and came along at a time when we really needed to define masculinity. He is more than fitting today (2016) - as men seek an identity. Their relationships with their Fathers is critical during their development. Sadly so many boys and men lack Dad's love, affection and nurturance which he refuses to give or fails to see as necessary. Dad is supposed to be a teacher and equip his son for life. If the male fails to get this nurturance at home in a proper environment, he will seek it out in some way such as gangs, clubs, older males, coaches and other sources. There's a danger free-lancing out in the World today - drugs, sexual encounters and gangs to name a few. Nurture your son - listen to Robert Bly and learn Fatherhood.

      Robert Bly has always said that while fathers are important and necessary, your father isn't the one who can really teach you how to be a man. It is not enough to have a good father--men also need older men to mentor them who are a good influence and who are NOT their father.

    As a father I understand perfectly what Robert speaks to. Our society has taken the Father out of the home and the polarity's of correctness have been lost! God help us before everything is destroyed~

    With the majority of mothers now also working, not only do children not have a father--they also don't have a mother. Don't get me wrong, I am all for women's equality with men. But today's children are not raised by their parents. They are now only raised by day care, school, and extracurricular activities, spending far more time in these institutions than with their parents.

    Beautiful work fellas. Jack N, are you saying there are no liars in the mens movement? Hate to prove you wrong but I've lied many times, don't know anyone who hasn't. Pull the lizard off that pedestal, you may just develop the understanding of a man. And all this is exactly as it should be, because it Is.

    So he critiques it by saying that masculine identity is purely a cultural construct? Because everything else he said was more or less the same as what Bly is trying to advocate for.

    Just got a "Fathers Day" email from Barrack Obama and in it he says: " It reminds me why we started the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative in the first place: because we need to do more to help young people go as far as their dreams and hard work will take them, no matter what they look like or where they grow up." Which means he''s claiming credit for the movement and ideas which Robert Bly started. Which also means this president is making an untrue claim because he is not the real initiator. It's nice that Barrack is on board with the men's movement but I'm not sure we need a liar in our movement.

    • @jennajoon7476
      @jennajoon7476 Před 9 lety +1

      Jack N The President DID launch the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative. He just didn't come up with the idea of older men mentoring younger men. But then... neither did Robert Bly. Bly's point is that he is talking about something a lot older than himself. Neither one of them claim to have invented the idea of mentorship. They just each created their respective programs to accomplish similar goals. It's silly to call Barack Obama a liar for claiming to create a program he actually created. Are you going to call Robert Bly a liar because "Big Brothers of America" was founded by Ernest Coulter in 1904? There have been numerous programs with this aim around for a long time. And even Ernest Coulter didn't invent the idea of a big brother- or a father- or of an older man mentoring a younger one.

    • @Dunkleosteus3691
      @Dunkleosteus3691 Před 9 lety

      Jenna Joon "The President DID launch the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative. He just didn't come up with the idea of older men mentoring younger men." So you agree: Obama is content to take the credit even though he and you both know there's been a long history of mentoring. He's restarting something, not really initiating. Misleading - which is my point.

    • @jennajoon7476
      @jennajoon7476 Před 9 lety

      No. Because he never claimed to have invented mentorship. He's just taking the credit for that program. You can't really be making this error of comprehension, can you?

    • @Dunkleosteus3691
      @Dunkleosteus3691 Před 9 lety

      Jenna Joon "It reminds me why WE STARTED the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative in THE FIRST PLACE..."
      If he meant JOINED the mentoring trend and added his own program, he should have had the courtesy to say that. But noooo. I do understand that you're nit-picking because you've run across someone who's not as gullible as Obama fans. Obama's shown consistency in his idea of mentoring: supporting juvenile delinquents and petty thieves who get themselves killed. Too bad he didn't do any mentoring in the direction of rational behavior, non-aggressiveness and honesty. Now go on your way and know that you've been schooled, Troll.
      :-)

    • @jennajoon7476
      @jennajoon7476 Před 9 lety

      No, dude. It just means he agree with it.
      Look at the statement. He said " It reminds me why we started the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative in the first place"-- starting "this initiative" is the thing he is taking credit for (and, incidentally, he says "we"- not "I").
      Then he says "because we need to do more to help young people go as far as their dreams and hard work will take them, no matter what they look like or where they grow up." That's just exactly what Bly says. That this is something that should happen. He didn't say "because I invented the idea of helping people." He says "I'm doing this program because I think people need to be helped this way." You are seriously nitpicking- but in a way that doesn't pay attention to grammar. I'm not sure how you reached this conclusion. I think you might be the one who needs more school. (Why are you calling me a troll? Do you really find it odd that someone would respond to a statement you put out?)
      Besides, if you really think that claiming that young people need help to follow their dreams is equivalent to claiming you invented mentoring-- why are you not criticizing Robert Bly or "Head Start" programs or any other program or person that says the same thing? It doesn't makes sense to say that Obama is lying and Robert Bly isn't.
      Here's a parallel for you. If I look out my window, or read an article in the paper about homelessness, and I say "I think I'm going to start a program to help feed the homeless, because everyone deserves a free lunch." And I start, say, the "Defender's Team Foundation" to feed the homeless. And I put out a Xmas card to the people who have contributed, saying "I started this foundation because I believe everyone deserves to be fed, not hungry!" ... Does make me a liar just because other people have also done this? I mean- is that such a unique idea that I am stealing it from Soup Kitchens across America? No. Am I even saying anything false? Not at all. I'm just agreeing with them and contributing in a positive way to making the world a better place.
      If I said "I started this program because I am the only person who has ever thought of feeding the homeless" that would be a lie. But saying that this needs to happen is not the same as saying I invented it. Get it? Geez.
