    This video was long overdue, and kind of long-winded too, but hopefully it'll help out a bit. :D
    Also, you can get BRSO Articulate here: www.syntheticorchestra.com/articulate/

      Hey Alex I have a question about EQ for Cello's and Double Bass, Which one deserves more of the bass frequency? (Which one should balance in the bass frequency more) And which one should be cut a little bit in the low end and how much?

    • @AlexMoukala
      @AlexMoukala  Před 7 lety +3

      The Basses generally have a much more powerful low end, cellos sound thinner than them, but they can also go higher in pitch.
      Also, I personally wouldn't cut low end in any of those two, but that's relative to your arrangement!

    14:58 Kind of a random note, but there is a difference in Col Legno and Bartok Pizzicato; Col Legno is hitting the strings with the wood of the bow, while Bartok Pizzicato is plucking the sting hard enough that it hits the fingerboard. They do produce a very similar sound though so I guess it doesn't really matter.

    Legato would be like changing the notes with your fingers but keeping the bow going in one direction.
    Up bow=^
    Down bow=√
    So you could do sustain
    ^ c √d ^e √f
    Or legato
    ^cdef √cdef
    So the attack either there for sustain, or legato the attack is only on bow direction changes.
    Portamento is sliding from note to note.

    If you're trying to overlap or make chords with Sus Legato or Sus using BRSO articulate & metropolis ark 1 choir, I had to make them into 3 separate tracks. Even with the 'allow overlap' setting enabled on the BRSO plugin, only 1 sustain/sus legato voice would play in the chord.

      Very useful tip, I usually make multiple Leg patches via Kontakt using Lacrimosa (8dio) - makes it a _little_ more difficult, but ghost patterns in FL Studio are a great help for identifying where the voices should go within the chord.

      It was written by ear, yeah!
      I don't know if my ear is that good though, it's just that I've been composing completely by ear since day one, so more than a talent it's just the force of habit I'd say. :)

    Thank you Alex, this is very helpful as always.
    I can see that you use CS and Metropolis Ark. Do you use Metropolis Ark1 or 2? Or Both?
    I'm only using EW libraries at the moment, because of budget reasons. I would like to expand to other libraries. It's hard to pick one or two (i would like to have them all) because they are so costly :/
    I've heard Berlin Brass is great as well. Have you tried it? Is it better than Metropolis Ark 1?
    The cost of these is too expansive :( I wish I had more money to help me have better VST and a more professional sound.

    • @AlexMoukala
      @AlexMoukala  Před 7 lety +3

      I haven't tried that one but I think Berlin Brass, being a library that focuses completely on Brass, will be better than metropolis ark on that particular insturment family.
      However, Metropolis Ark 1 also includes strings, choir, percussion & band, which is a considerably versatile range of insturments.
      I personally only own metropolis ark 1 so far.

    How to Use Orchestral Articulations:
    To Deliver harmonies and melodies more effectively.
    Introduction:
    Articulations can split into 3 categories
    -Sustain
    -Short (Stacatto)
    -Transition (Tremolo etc)
    Sustained:
    Sustained Articulations give you way more rises and falls effectiveness.
    (To be continued)

    hey alex how much do you spend composing every day/week and do you sometime feel like you have spent all your creative potential of the day? Because sometimes i do and i just have to stop because i'm not coming up with no more ideas and i'm just running in circles around what i've been composing for like 2 hours. Thank you for replying i've been following you for like a couple of weeks and i feel like it helps me more and more eventually!!

    • @AlexMoukala
      @AlexMoukala  Před 7 lety +2

      It does happen. Sometimes you've got to think of productivity in terms of work done, and not hours spent.
      If you feel completely drained, there's no point spending that extra time just to procrastinate without making progress, that will just make you even more tired.
      Taking breaks is part of the job!
