- I thought I would make a tribute about this amazing classic, Rumble Fish (1983) I have been pretty obsessed with this movie for weeks, It was a brilliant performance by Mickey Rourke. Anyways, hope you like. I was in a rush to make this one.
Song: Stewart Copeland - Don't Box Me In

Rourke was absolutely brilliant.
Rourke its royalty in the exile
Stewart Copeland created the most beautiful soundtrack for this movie. Classic.
Underrated classic. I love Mickey too
I've watched it about 50 times. Best movie ever made. Full of timeless metaphors💟
Indeed......I always learn from watching this masterpiece....
Great under appreciated movie. As in a classic...It in a subtle way talked about the end of the 50's 60's street gangs caused by dope and the money it brought. Also was an early commentary on mental illness. Great soundtrack. Coppola didn't get his dues on this!
I read all her books in 5th grade. Still resonates with me 40 years later especially now
I use to watch this video in the summer of '09 and i cant help but to cry!! I use to watch this each day on hot summer nights and little did i know but i was living rustys life! Walking through the rough part of town to pick up my brother from an abusive household and getting into fights. Like in the movie my brother was also killed by a cop and here i am 13 years later and i weep so hard when i watch this video because of the way you edited this so thank you Sarah for all the memories you brought back to me.
an art film for teenagers, with a great percussion soundtrack by Stewart Copeland
Now I know why Sting never sounded like The Police ever again!
Exactly it wasn’t just sting. He wrote the majority of the songs but Andy and Steward both put their personalities into everything they did. Stewards sound or style is unique to him
I've had this song in my head for a while. I graduated high school in 83 but never saw rumble fish.
I put this in my top ten greatest films ever.....
Pop Knife-Fight.
It’s really underrated
Me too . My son and I were talking about our top 5’s and for me Rumble Fish is in there
Brilliant movie and great song by Stan Ridgeway and Stewart Copeland!!!
This whole movie is art. Love Wall of Voodoo song
Is a francis ford coppola movie with mickey rourke in your prime
I was fortunate enough to be an extra in this movie. What a cast. Matt Dillon, Mickey Rourke, Dennis Hopper, Nicholas Cage, Laurence Fishburne, Diana Scarwid, and I got the chance to meet and talk with Tom Waits between scenes at Benny's Billiards. Great times.
Unique song to a one-of-kind film
One of the greatest movies ever made I loved the outsiders too all 3 films had great casting. I've read the books took my school exams on them and I the collection book which I think might still be the property of a library that is no longer standing a prized possession of mine. Shame these books are now banned in the UK school library's.
this movie reflects my life in so many ways i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolute masterpiece....direction,photography,actors and soundtrack
Wonderful black and white.
Gotta love the red and blue fish swimming around in a black-and-white movie. haha
This movie came out about the same time as The Outsiders. The Outsiders may have been more commercially successful but Rumblefish is the better film. Better soundtrack, better visuals, just better.
i read this book when i was 10 years old, it was the first book i ever read without anyone forcing me to and i couldnt put it down because i identified with it so much, i read it over and over trying to figure out this guy the motorcycle boy, i just understood Rusty James, and now that im older and learned more from life i understand now that the world we see in "color" is really black and white,
"Apparently it is essential to some people to belong...anywhere"
Seriously heavy film, F.F.Coppola nailed the S.E.Hinton book (along with The Outsiders) As seen through Rourke's character, b/w tv with the sound turned low. TheMotorcyeBoyReigns...
I agree iam talking on a Mexican radio he most definitely nailed this movie Coppola did
If only the Rumble fish characters was in the outsiders a classic crossover
This Movie is a visual Masterpiece.
I’m so obsessed with this movie also and the sound track is 🔥as well!
GREAT ! Only a handful of people appreciate this film. It's a love or hate it thing. Glad you are on the Love It side.
this movie is a tribute to personal freedom and purposeful leadership
Cult Classic
Awesome song, from a great movie.
When I think back to the Police in their heyday, my 1st thought is Stewart Copeland going crazy and banging away on his drum set!
"...you won't be ABLE to box me in!"
every time i run a red light, i do it with this movie in my mind all the time!!!!!
i live rumble fish!!!!
2:43: When that snare drum comes in, you know exactly who the m’effr is playing it,
Everybody needs to see this movie read the book!
just ordered Criterion Collection..hav watched this film since 1983..
Tears in my eyes ,what a great video
10 years later here i am again...
Micky Rourke really nails the late 50's/ Early 60'$ cool guy character
thanks for sharing, also one of my all time favorites. a couple years after this movie, Stewart Copeland performed the soundtrack of The Equalizer a TV show, may be anyone of you remember it? Denzel Washington just made two movies as a "remake" but nothing to do with the original, at least to me. Regards
You've been "obsessed with this movie for weeks"? - I've been obsessed with this movie for over 30 years lmao
You sound about 11 years old.
Wildcock23 right?
I'm 32 years old
They're not as strange as you would think lol... my parents only had this because they were really into "The Outsiders" - which is a fantastic movie but not as good as "Rumble Fish" in my opinion... they (like many others) didn't understand this "Rumble Fish" and placed a greater emphasis on "The Outsiders" instead...
By the way - Criterion is putting "Rumble Fish" out on blu-ray April 25th, 2017... so mark your calendars ;)
you sound gay
I always liked the song for its odd, offbeat rythms and its expression of a free and bold individuality. Have never seen Rumble Fish however.
Buy the film and the soundtrack album, ASAP
SoulStylistJukeBox i agree. assuming you like the movie, you'll find the soundtrack matches the movie spot-on. it's all stewart copeland (the police) and essentially the same style as this song.
The film didn't do well on its release but I love it and it has a huge cult following . I am a huge movie snob but this movie is great . Too good and unique for its time .
I liked the movie. It was...different. A little odd.
Megan Frankie
Zaney little song, zaney little movie. Perfectly morbid.
Totally misunderstood. The music & the movie should have been a hit. But it bombed.
Apparently there original directors cut was 3 hours and it was then taken down to 83 minuets. The original version has a lot of violence taken out, badly, to get a lower rating. The DVD version restores the violence but nothing else.
There is also apparently an eight hour cut of the film. Tom Waits claimed to have a copy of this on Letterman a while back, although he may have been pulling Dave's leg.
Copeland has around 12 hours of unused stuff he created for this (he scored everything that was filmed) and was going to make it available online at one point but wasn't able to due to legal issues.
No it did not
Never bombed, this and the outsiders were on the tv all the time. both classics that caught a moment in time!
@@Djarra Thank you for that information.
It didnt flop cause it inspired me to make movies with this type of vibe and style
Stan Ridgeway has such a cool voice!
Read her books since I was a teenager. I'm in my 50s now.
So beautiful. I didn't understand the movie until I was free (I voted with my feet and left the USA for good) - Like Matt Dillon at the end of the movie leaving Tulsa behind and driving to the ocean.
It actually was really ahead of it time for the 80's..MTV flare brought to the movies, and precursor for 90's era; A gritty cry of the under class....black n white style may of hurt it's impact when it came out. Regardless thou, one of Mick's best performances. The Motorcycle Boy really, should be seen as a more legendary character; played with layers of hate, insanity, brokenness, absolute loyalty/absolute bravery, while his eyes said... he just wanted his mama... got to appreciate the past ...
Should have been the music background to a Karate tournament. Stanley Ridgeway what an underrated talent!!
I'll be honest, I only loved the movie because of Stewart Copeland's soundtrack.
Love the movie n the book s e hinton and Francis ford Coppola make a great team!!
Brilliant Film,Brilliant song from the Man that is Stanard Ridgway
great movie.. dillon kicks ass... music as well... fantastic photos and mickey a real motorcycle boy.. Greece rulezzzz

Wow. It had been over 25 years since I heard this song, I think. Crazy.
It’s been my favorite movie since it’s release in ‘83

Thanks for putting this up for one of my favorite films & soundtracks ever. So cool!
Great Song. Great Movie.
I LOVE THEM ALL TOO MUCH!
Thx for posting...such a classic film and score/songs. A lot of people don't get this film. It has so many themes and layers going on it is crazy. Mickey Rourke is so good in this movie it is unreal. Actually, everyone is excellent. I wish That Was Then This Is Now was made by the same crew as this and the Outsiders. Great job cutting this. Thx again. cheers -tms
Such a great movie
Great video. This movie and soundtrack have been following me all my life. And I have yet to go to Tulsa.

Letting you know peeps are still hitting this video of an incredible film. For someone who was there? Extra special. Thanks.
Love this song and It makes me wonder when Ridgway says you know this blackboard lacks a piece of chalk if he was referring to his old band wall of voodoo continuing without him and that was a jab since they had that song blackboard sky

Nice job man!
A song for the soundtrack movie, by Francis Ford Coppola, Steward Copeland, Stan Ridgway, and in the guitar Andy Summers. (in the original video, andy and steward appears playing together). The main character performed by Alan Delon. Rumblefish, and the musical idea....
Don't box us in
