  • #cunardline #queenmary2 is distinguished from conventional cruise ships by being the worlds only, and last, ocean liner.
    This video from our time on board will show inside and around this particular category of stateroom that exists on a number of decks, and is virtually unique to Ocean Liners. The "sheltered" balcony.
    We'll guide you through:-
    - What is a sheltered balcony?
    - What are the features of this type of accommodation; everything from electrical sockets to toiletries.
    For information, we found this cabin to be in a quiet location, and relatively near to stairs and lifts. Its also often the cheapest balcony option.

    We've booked a guaranteed sheltered balcony on our transatlantic from New York to Southampton in December. We love the sheltered cabin for winter cruises, it's nice and cosy and an excellent price too.

      Oh how fabulous Angela. And cosy is the word.
      If you've seen the video to the end, you'll see the shot from the sea-view retreating back into the cabin, and it reveals perfectly how these cabins put you close to the water, but sufficiently far away from any turbulent ocean to feel you're in your "cosy" hotel room and enjoying the free room service☺ 😃

      @@angelahorton5745 Nice! I think the sheltered balcony on the QM2 is my personal favorite, offering a nice cabin with the utmost in privacy and at a reasonable price. One piece of advice--no matter the season--crossing the Atlantic can be unexpectedly cold, so be sure to take a warm coat or jacket to be able to be on your balcony or to stroll around the promenade deck (#7). Even in August, you'll appreciate the warmth, and moreso in the wintertime.

    That’s a good insight to the sheltered cabin.

    Another great video. I especially appreciate your info on why there is rust visible. QM2 spends very little time in port so regular maintenance is difficult. I'm booked to sail Queen Anne next year and I cant wait.

      And we really appreciate your comment on that. We try to create interesting and informative content on this channel and not place ourselves in the way of good pictures, and useful facts.
      Glad you liked the video.
      There's more QM2 videos coming in the New Year 🙂

    Great video! We’ve just booked a cruise on QM2. We didn’t go for a sheltered balcony but they’re probably the better option for a Transatlantic cruise

    • @BritsAbroadTravelCruise
      @BritsAbroadTravelCruise  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thanks guys
      Yeah, by virtue of them being lower down in the ship, you will experience less of the pitching or rolling in rough seas.
      For us, it was that plus the pricing that swung the decision.
      However, the Atlantic can provide for some calm travel, so that lovely higher up balcony cabin might suit you just as well.
      She is a a truly amazing ship to sail in, and to be on the outside of.
      Take a look at our video of the outdoor spaces (assuming this is your first time on QM2)

      Very true.
      Particularly as this ship has a unique and somewhat unconventional layout, so mapping it out in your head a little before you travel can be an advantage.
      Happy to answer any questions you have.

    Great tour of your room, it looks really comfortable. I do prefer to be able to see out of my balcony when seated though. We saw the QM2 sail out of Southampton before our recent cruise, so great to see inside. I have subscribed to your fabulous channel.

    • @BritsAbroadTravelCruise
      @BritsAbroadTravelCruise  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Well thanks for your lovely comment, and yeah, on a long voyage in warmer seas, that restricted view sitting down could be a negative.
      There's more we will be bringing in the weeks ahead about the rest of the ship, food etc.

    • @ajs11201
      @ajs11201 Před 9 měsíci +2

      Great comment--whether or not the sheltered balcony is a good choice for anyone is really a matter of personal preference and priorities. For me (on the QM2), it's my first choice. You're at sea for a week--and after a few days, the view becomes the same. So the sheltered balcony gives an opportunity for fresh air without sacrificing any privacy. Since the sheltered balcony cabins are at the lowest three levels of the ship, they afford the utmost privacy. Although this isn't my problem, the lower decks also alleviate motion sickness, so that could be an added bonus for those who suffer from that.

    • @BritsAbroadTravelCruise
      @BritsAbroadTravelCruise  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Absolutely. These are all totally valid points. And having cruised in the conventional sliding door balcony cabins of cruise ships, these solid hinged doors create a better seal to the outside to avoid those terrible wind noises form stormy seas.@@ajs11201

    Looked like a nice room but clearly a bit older design. Being on a balcony that close to the water would be nice as we're always much higher up!

    • @BritsAbroadTravelCruise
      @BritsAbroadTravelCruise  Před 11 měsíci

      Yeah, it has to be said that the 'wow' factor of this ship is not inside its accommodation, certainly not at what Cunard call "Britannia" class such as this cabin. But, by saving money here, you get the experience of what is much more incredible to be experienced inside and outside this unique vessel, as well as outstanding food and great service.
      Being lower down is nice to be near to water we agree, but also (and this has to be considered on a transatlantic voyage) you will experience less motion in rough seas.
      Thanks for taking the time to comment

    Cant see a grab rail in the shower that might be a problem for me who is not steady on the old feet!

      @BritsAbroadTravelCruise  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi there.
      No, I cant say with any certainty that there was one.
      It might be that other grades of cabin, such as those for people with mobility issues, might better accommodate you in that regard.
      Try a call to Cunard here in the UK directly to find out the answer.
