- These are the Octobans I bought off of ebay. They are real Junk so be careful. I was offered a FULL refund but decided to keep them since the rims, lugs, stands and other parts are worth the money I paid. Plus I really can't afford the Tama Octobans right now.
@GordonGriggs yea true i was just suprised, i know an acrylic producerso i might just buy some tubing and make my own. the only thing would be finding the hardware and heads that small
I never tuned them up. When I bought them they were listed as being black. They were not so I took them apart to paint them. That's when I found out that they were defective.I was going to fix, and paint them but never had the time so I gave them away a few weeks ago to a non-profit yard sale. So I never found out how they sounded.
@ConnorizedStudios Yes, Im sure they are the same ones. The same person I bought mine from is selling the ones you are looking at. The stands, mounts, and lugs are the same as what I had. Its easy for anyone to stamp a logo on a drum head just to change the name. Be careful!
@MATTlovesDRUMS Backbeat was on the heads, there were no other names anywhere else. Ive seen similar sets on ebay with different names.
@NERDZKANDY Japanese - but some Tama's are now made in China - Swingstar for sure, but even cheaper Tama's have benefitted from the design technology that the company have been renowed for for the last thirty years. These octobans are not Tama as Tama had the wit to design metal hoops flush to the head, which make them much easier to hit.
@seanmacfitz Best thing to do is go to the store and check them out for yourself. You could also do an internet search on them and try to find somone else that owns a set. Talk to them and find out what they think. The octoban's I bought looked good in the photo's before I bought them. Pictures help, but you can't tell everything by looking at a picture.
Well your a good man for posting this video and sharing your experience. I'm sure that with a little bit of work you'll bring em up to par and they will still be fun to play, and of course you did save a good bit of money over a set of Tama's.
@seanmacfitz I don't remember the brand. Most of the cheap one's like these are made in China. Save your money and buy the tama octobans. I wasted my money on these because they were poorly constructed. I don't want to see anyone else make the same mistake I did.
Most of the cheap ones are made by the same company in China. The tama octobans cost more but I think they are worth the extra money. Plus with tama, if you break a lug you can get it replaced. I don't know if you could get replacement lugs for the cheap octobans.
Thanks for the heads up !!
For anyone watching this, I just wanted to point out one other thing, if you compare these to Tama Octobans you will notice that the rims on the Tama's are made in such a way that the HEAD is ABOVE the rim, these knock off have the RIM ABOVE the head, these will be difficult to play at best, and you will probably be hitting the rim all the time with your sticks. Take a look at the TAMA's and the others at the head ( the top) and you will see what I mean.
hey man thanks your a good money saver i was about to get these but i got peace octobans thanks to your vid
@seanmacfitz I have a set of 8 backbeat octobans with stands for sale. I spent hours fixing them, and replaced the heads with Evans sound control heads. I would be willing to sell mine for $300 plus shipping. Mine now sound awesome, I just don't want to tear them down and set them up at every gig.
@mitchem890 Yes, but you get what you pay for. These octobans I bought were total JUNK. Please don't waste your money on these.
I am not denigrating anyone. Im just posting my opinion of the Octobans I bought and how I think the seller should be more honest in his description of what he sells.
@seanmacfitz If you look at the video the only name on them was on the heads. It was backbeat or somthing like that. They are still selling these on ebay. The "Peace" brand of octobans on ebay would probably be much better than these. I bought these from the seller silverspringsmusic. Im sure they can get you a set. But don't complain to me if you don't like them. I posted this video to warn people to stay away from these octobans.
That sounds cool, I've been wanting some for ages. What sort or price would they be and do you know if he'd be distributing or delivering to England?
I always wanted the full set. As far as I know most everything like this is made in china now.
8 octobans? wow
might as well make'm yourself. or just like ducktape the top of the cilindre? just to create a more even layer
I did not really need them, I just wanted them.
Ill still buy from ebay. But Ill just be more careful, and if I do run across any more JUNK like this Ill post a video to warn others.
GREAT TIP,THANK YOU
Good advice.
