  • In this video I make an Alpenstock out of blackthorn and then test it out to set up a tarp tent with my DD 3x3 tarp.

Nice Setting. Put a towel on the pole to protect your expensive tarp.

Nice job on the stick. One comment (per 0:20): You actually want the wind going across your shelter at 90 degrees, not coming from the back (especially if you have a fire), as winf coming from the rear will tend to swirl around the front of the shelter.

    A lot of work !
Maybe I would be easier to use use a staff from haslnut as hunters normally do. Sure , your staff looks nearly indestructible 👊👍greetings from lower saxony🙋

I have used Hazel quite often for basic walking sticks and they are a lot easier as they are straight and thin but in our wet climate they do deteriorate faster which is why I wanted to try Blackthorn. But, it is hard to find a straight piece so lots of shaping required!
Lower Saxony sounds very cool, I would love to visit that area one day.

@@bundufundi i agree, I make mine from Rowan , but Hazel work's fine for me , I leave the bark on it for protection. Blackthorn is in my opinion a little bit to heavy , but last for ever , I think. Of course you can steam a crocked staff over boiling water, like I do....
Sure, visit Germany! It's better then most of the people in the UK believe! And there's a lot more than Berlin , Heidelberg , Oktoberfest or Neu Schwanstein😎🙋

@@michaelh.weiser6502 I had a very good friend years ago who came from Wurtzburg. We worked together in Namibia but unfortunately we lost contact, I always planned to visit after how he described some of your amazing natural areas and woodlands. One day!
