June 1, 2024 - Full Lighting

Thank you to Rhode Island School of Design for sponsoring our 1st Full Lighting of the 2024 season and a special thank you to all of our volunteers and event staff that helped make this event possible!🔥
The June 1st WaterFire celebrated the life of a dear friend, Michael Grando, who brought his gentle spirit to WaterFire for over two decades. The community was invited to join an observance with the Eastern Medicine Singers and a drum circle in his honor in Memorial Park.
WaterFire’s traditional observance of the Memorial Canoe, followed by Michael’s Thai boat, will depart Waterplace Basin on its voyage down the entire river. Michael’s daughter Crow Grando donned traditional makeup, and Pierrette continued Pierrot’s mission of presenting flowers to those along the riverside.
A collection of Michael’s images and writings, along with a remembrance book, was on display in Market Square all evening.
