Nearly all Diesel Engine manufacturers are switching to a Common Rail Fuel system and you if your going to be repairing one, then this video will show you how to change the Fuel Injectors on one. This video goes over the specifics of changing a Cat C9 Injector, but the general principles apply to all Common Rail/Quill Tube style injectors. Please check with your specific engine manufacturer for specifics. Any questions can be left in the comments section of this video. Did this video help you save time or money? this is great for owner operators, specially for those who really care...thanks
+SLB TRANSPORT INC Thank you for watching.
The safety notice is good. I appreciate the details you add about working in your trade. Helps me know what I could be getting into, you're a good role model.
Thank you for the kind words. I try to just give an honest description of what I do.
Thank you so much man I’ve been fighting this injector since yesterday
God blessed you with nice voice.
great footage , thanks
Great video , always thought changing an injector was to intimidating a job for me but now I’d happily work away with no worries of destroying the wagon
Thanks for videos like these.
Thank you sir for uploading like this video. Keep uploading
Cat recommend changing the quill tube if changing injectors. Can only be reused on the same injector. There should also be 3 o rings on the new style injectors.
Thank you for the video keep learning i love cat engine...
Thanks, for all the great video's. All are very helpful.
+david price Thanks for commenting.
Do you think its the injectors that is bad on a jd 6068 with common rail, it runs very harsh on idle when the engine is cold and starts badly, and i dont know when they were changed or if they are ever been changed and the engines Done 9500 hours
Awesome video very good explained very educated video thank you so much
Well done, cheers
On a c9 cat engine common rail fuel system to change the fuel pump does it have to be timing
Awesome videos. learning a whole lot. Keep them coming. Thanks Sir
+Michael H Thank you for the kind words.
Great video ...
I admire your work.
+Charles James Thank you.
How do you adjust the valve on the B model. Or run the over head
Thank you sir
Nice video man! I enjoyed it
Thank you sir. Haven't heard from you in a little while, hope your doing well.
+Adept Ape Hey buddy I have a question is there a certain way to depressurize the common rail before you start removal?
+Podlfks dues fe The rail is only under pressure while the engine is running, when the engine is shut down the pressure immediately starts to bleed off. I have never cracked a fuel line when the engine is off and had pressure on it. I know this applies on the Cats and a couple of the Internationals I've worked on, of course if you go to remove a line on something that was shut down 15 seconds ago there may be some residual pressure. I'm not familiar with every manufacturer engine ever made though, so some may have some sort of "bleed off" procedure, but I'm not aware of any. Hope that answers it.
@@AdeptApe do you know of any videos like yours but for the cm2250 cummins isx15?
1:42 This is why you're my favorite youtuber lol
How would I go about tuning a 3406b fuel pump
Nice video. It help a lot.
+Gonzalez RC Thank you for commenting. It's always good to hear people like the video.
Thanks sir 🙏
Where do I find out how to replace fuel injectors on Toyota corolla d4d ? Need some support but Toyota won’t help.
we replaced injector number four after the replacement the engine not running properly what the problem sir...? but somebody's says you must inter the ecm to programs that we are installed a new injector...
I have a 3126 in a 2001 GMC and I have been losing power more and more every day for the past week Especially climbing up hills . It almost feels like there's a misfire and I've noticed the turbo changes tone while it "misfires" . I just noticed today that they will pressure is also getting worse according to the dashboard gauge it reads nothing at idle. Any clue on what this could be?
Keep up the great videos!
John Deere 9 liter is almost exactly the same... just need the software to introduce the injectors to the ECU. Great video man!!!
Cummins isx15 is same with the high pressure common rail
The tubes or high pressure fuel connectors are re-usable on the cummins as long as it stays with the injector it was originaly installed with. If the injector is new it must be replaced. They are crushed at the tip when mated to the injector so it will leak if a used tube is put on a diffrent injector or on a new one.
Is there a tool to check turbo inter cooler pressure?
Could you some time talk about the metal contamination heui damage that can occur on the C7s and the filter kit update that can be added and part # etc and cost. Thanks --ktmcandog!
Can you do a video on rear main seals? C13, c15, c7
can you use white lithium grease?
Nice video thanks. What is the best way to test if an injector is firing correctly while the engine is running? (Or to test for a faulty injector?) on the Detroits i can short out the injector by holding down the mechanical plunger while it is running, or if the engine has a mechanical fuel pump you can crack the line going to each cylinder. What is the best way to test an injector on a common rail with electrically operated injector?
Hey Regal, a cylinder cutout test through the ECM is really the best way. You can just click to kill each cylinder to see which doesn't change the engine load. If you don't have the super expensive manufacturer software to do that, you could potentially disconnect the wiring going to each injector, but I do NOT recommend it because most newer injectors run higher voltages (90+ volts) to the solenoids, so you could get zapped or possibly cause electrical damage. In addition, I don't like being close to these engines fuel systems while they are running for reasons stated in the video. Cat also has a Fuel System Verification Test that is runs on these engines to test the injectors, then says whether they are "responding" which basically means whether the injector is dropping rail pressure equally.
Will the snap on computers work with these engines or does it have to be a cat software based computer?
+Regal2800 These engines are pre OBD HD so they probably wouldn't work on the Cat ECMs, but I've only used CAT ET so you may be able to get codes with a scanner. If you try it out, let me know if it'll talk to it.
Kermit goes to Cali and works as a cat tech. Just kidding keep up the good work
How make timming for cat 3116
How does the tip of the fuel injector not become damaged after detonation. Isn't a portion of the tip, if not more, inside the cylinder. If so, wouldn't the force of the detonation cause it break?
+Buchanan Baxter That is a great question because yes the injector tip is exposed to the heat and pressure of the combustion process. The injectors are made from some very high strength steel to endure those pressures.
Do you have to bleed down the common rail before loosening those lines?
+nick elias The common rail should bleed down after the engine has been off for a few minutes. I've never removed one of the lines and had it spray pressure, but it is always a great idea to keep your hands away from the fitting the first time you crack it.
Thmx for the info. Im new to diesels and just bought a diesel truck
Yeah fluid intrusion is the last thing you want
@@AdeptApe on the common rail ISX always break free the line that supplies the fuel rail with fuel first to vent pressure. It has a machined slot down it to vent the pressure towards the block and away from you. Though i have done many and bearly any fuel comes out but its better to just play it safe.
I rebuilt a 4045H John Deere common rail engine, motor runs perfect except for the fuel leak which is coming out of the fitting which holds the quill tube in, the path is also the fuel return back to the tank, the cat idea is a lot better, comment is now edited, the engine was taken apart by dealer, now appears there must have been a seal on the fitting which holds the stem/quill in.
+actorzone Be extremely careful around common rail leaks, they can puncture your skin. Are the lines supposed to be replaced after being used once?
I think the thread around the fitting which holds the quill in is leaking as this is also the fuel return path, the return path is via the galleys in the main tappet cover to an exit pipe, the cat engine has a fuel return back along the quill galley as well but they have a seal installed, the difference in other cat injector is the fuel return holes are lower down on the Injector, the tubes coming from the rail tube to the fitting are ok, I don't work while the engine is running as aware of the safety issues.
Do you change oil after spraying the valve train with brake clean?
You don't have to, brake clean leaves no residue and evaporates very quickly. I've never heard a reason to or seen anyone else do it.
+Adept Ape that's what I thought, thanks man.
+Flipper Deluxe It was a good question though, thanks for commenting.
Guiyss di mana sih letak common rail greder c7 cat 120K
Hey adept
doesnt the c9 use heui? how come you said common rail???
+Omar Most C9 engines were HEUI the C9S serial number C9 engines with the regen systems were common rail. Same as the C7 HEUI and C7S common rail.
easy money old school cat motor ! You should due a vlog on final tear 4 or overhead cam engines like johndeere 13.5 sir, but thanks for vlog
+Eric Price I would like to get into other engines, but our shop mostly works on Cat only.
Work for a Deere dealer in the uk, we are not having very good luck with the 13.5 engines
05clenharth never said they are dependable clenharth.
Are common rail systems all that complicated to learn? Seems very complicated. Crazy how much force those injectors have!
+aaronw1996 Common rail is pretty simple sir, just somewhat dangerous if it leaks.
Crows foot should be at 90 deg on torque wrench or you need to calculate the length you've added. The way you had it lengthens the leverage leading to an over torque in this case. Keeping crows foot at 90 degrees alleviates this. Great vid.
You are correct sir, please notify the engineers that designed this engine where it is almost freaking impossible to even get a crowsfoot on the fuel lines, let alone with a torque wrench. Thank you for commenting.
haha all good mate, love your vids. I work on large cat engines. Never stop learning :) Have you heard the term FT lol
+Pete lol How large? Are you working on the 3500 series or even bigger stuff?
Im sure you used the torque wrench for the vid ;)
Cat 797's. 789's, 793's, 777's D11 D10 D9.. etc mate
Safety first awesome
Thank you, don't want someone cracking a line and having their hand removed. It is kind of crazy the pressure they are getting out of these engines nowadays. Thanks for commenting.
Is it not a good idea to change all the injectors Adept?
+Muchie You really just change them as they fail for the most part. This engine had low miles still so it just needed #4 changed.
Would a fuel rail pressure code be caused by injectors ?
not likely- most likely hpfp (high pressure fuel pump) is not up to par.
now is when you kick yourself for not designing it off an injection pump- because the pump went out anyways. why not have one device handle everything....
Guys, the main 120K cat solar filter is always empty, why is that?
Is 'quill tube' cat's term for that?
Wesley Cooper yes
Adapte ape smokes? Sense when?
how do you know how many foot pounds the nuts are
Cat has specs on all their fasteners and removal and assembly procedures. You have to look them up in Cats SIS system or whatever manufacturer your working on.
+Adept Ape oh. thank you!
+miketh33 You're welcome, I wish I knew of an easier way to get the specs, but that is really the best way to get them.
You must replace the injector tube on a cummins
Why so much presure
Adept ape send me your email I want to chat and send a donation thanks for all the great videos 😁
Dude in future just do what it says you are going to do.some peoplee dont have time or patients for your rambling jfc.i just do it without instructions before i sit and watch a 5 minute video bloated to 20 or 30 because of useless babble
