    They just complain about the problem without proposing any real solutions. They just said other states are sending their homeless to Cali. Cali's weather makes it easy to live outside. Cali is still very desirable that's why it's one of the most expensive states. Poor people can't afford the housing there. Seems like they need more homeless shelters and to build more housing to bring the cost down on housing. WTF is a tourist tax going do to solve this problem? No connection is made to housing and homelessness between this tourist tax. If the dollars from the tax go toward building housing and homeless shelters then it would make sense.

  • @SeatBill
    @SeatBill Před 3 lety

    You know what they're really talking about here, with the tourism tax? It's a *consumption tax,* which is the fundamental basis of the FAIR TAX proposal that people like Mike Huckabee and others have proposed for some time now! It essentially replaces ALL other taxes (income, estate, etc.) with a *consumption tax* that comes out to around 25-30%; which means that, every time you buy something in the state, there's a tax included in the price of that item that pays for government services! No one ever pays an income tax again, or an estate tax, or a capital gains tax, or a death tax - or whatever. You MIGHT, depending on the locality, still have property taxes.... but that would be rare; if done at all. And, guess what? This is essentially how revenues were generated in this country BEFORE the 16th Amendment, which imposed the current tax system (and created the IRS, among other things)! So.... this has essentially been done before in the US!
    For details on this proposal, go to www.fairtax.org/
    Now, California will NEVER do what Bet-David is proposing! Why? Because of the exact reason he explained; politicians in CA (or any blue state, for that matter) will NEVER consider DOING AWAY with a tax already levied on the population, in order to replace it with something else (especially something that would work better overall; which is what a Fair Tax proposal would do!); *they would impose the tourism tax ON TOP OF the taxes already levied! Why do away with a tax, when you can just add to it? That's how politicians - especially those on the Left - think! Have you EVER heard of a state, or a city, or a village, COMPLETELY DOING AWAY WITH A TAX? It doesn't happen in America! The ONLY way to get a true Fair Tax in this country, is to COMPLETELY TEAR UP AND DISCARD THE EXISTING SYSTEM, AND GO TO A NATIONWIDE CONSUMPTION TAX THAT REPLACES ALL OTHER TAXES BEING COLLECTED AT ALL LEVELS!*
    And that will NEVER happen, *unless we redo the Constitution (Article 5) by repealing the 16th Amendment and abolishing the IRS.... or, there's another Civil War - and the people force the government to institute it!*

Downtown and the beach areas of SD have always had a problem with homeless people, but now it’s in almost every part of the city. The infrastructure is falling apart, so many small businesses have closed up due to Covid, and the cost of living is insane!! I can’t wait to move out of here this fall to Arizona. I think the problem is expecting a solution that will lower the number of homelessness. LA is a mecca/sanctuary for homeless people because of the programs, fair weather and people in similar situations. If people think to fix the problem we need to lower the number then that will never happen. We need to look towards India and other mega cities that handle hungry/homeless populations and find effective ways to allow them to live or give them opportunities to seek help.
    Authoritarian solutions involves making mental illness/homeless a crime and arrest them or detain them. Force them to seek treatment have bike cops and other police knock down tents. I use to work in Skidrow and use to see and interact with these people first hand. Yes it is sad to see but the first step is realistic goals and realistic solutions on how we want to handle the COUNTRIES homeless problem. Because this population are form multiple states.

    • @777Samiboy
      @777Samiboy Před 3 lety

      Also the mental competent homeless people know that they can go to a cop say they want to jump in traffic and they classify as a 5150 where they will get a 3 days into a hospital/psych facility get a shower, food, free smokes, etc. and then go back on the street. When I use to be an EMT there was actually a couple that did this and word on the street was they broke up cause they stopped coming together.

    Homelessness is a logical consequence of an American extreme individualistic and selfish society where you are left to your own devices, nobody gives a F if you die on the street. Billionaires are the rock stars, and the middle class, which is supposed to be the backbone of society, is disappearing. Society is falling apart and the homeless are an inevitable consequence of this, not just in California...

      You are also responsible for your own life and if you choose to flush it down the toilet and become homeless thats on you. Mental illness being the exception here of course but drugs and being an overall non productive person garners no sympathy. The mentally ill should be helped and treated but the druggies are the ones who have to save themselves. There are numerous programs for them to get clean but they don't want to follow those rules to take the step and would rather stay homeless.

      @@crzyruskie86 You are misleading. American society does not help neither, no matter if the homeless person is mentally ill or drug addict. What’s more, American society doesn’t even help those who normally go to work and get sick one day. You have to be perfectly healthy and with a good job in America - otherwise you're screwed.

    Where are homless going?
    Where the per-capita income is most high. Rich people go where it's most low..
    Why, because rich people find more power around mostly poor people and poor people harness power around wealthy people..
    The poor hope for crumbs they can't find around other poor people and rich hope to only give back crumbs to the most poor
    Since Texas and Florida are number 25 and 38 per capita, all rich people show up..
    Since blue states make the best decisions and are more wealthy, all the poor show up for opportunity..
