2:59, pretty sure that's an intentional crash-safety test. They were still not certain about helicopters, and had to prove that they were reasonably safe for troops. That's why they were filming it so carefully. I suspect the earlier Huey was something similar.

What is with the weird "shock wave" effect at 4:45, as the helicopter is dropping? It looks like a pulse spreads out from it. Is that just some artifact from the camera adjusting to the changing light or distance?
+McbamfFilms It's a feedback from the ground through the landing skids that cause the craft to bounce & the bounce makes it bounce more. The only solution is to take off and have no contact with the ground.

that crash happened because the pilot flew into weather where he had no reason to be in and add mountains into the mix its going to be a bad day for everyone. loosing orientation in a helicopter can cost the pilot his life and that of his passengers. what's even worse is when it happens in a commercial airliner with a 130 people on board and at night in mountainous terrain. every aviation related crash that has happened since the Wright brothers in 1903 and before has made it safer. don't ever think that just because an aircraft fails for some reason that its unsafe. its because of the failures that the NTSB and others like them makes it safe.

Backstory was that some 90-year old got a helicopter ride for his birthday, but his relatives chooses the cheapest possible option from some Baltic state company, the pilot had little experience on that type of helicopter so the ending was not just a pure coincidence. The guy died if I remember right. Guess it's not the worst way to go if you're 90 years old.
A trend I have noticed on most compilations that irks me is they cut them to short. I have seen all of the full clips and its like each time they are used they snip 1/4 second. Eventually it ruins it. Crashes you at least wait until the car,plane,boat etc stop moving before you jump to the next clip. Dammit....
