Why Load Management Is Causing MORE INJURIES!

- The numbers don't lie. More star players are getting hurt in this year's playoffs than ever before and the trend has increased over the last few seasons. It's a stark contrast from the 80's and 90's where there were far fewer NBA playoff games missed due to injury. Bonzi and Sheed debate if Load Management is to blame for players missing time due to injury.

You can't expect to be built for an 82 game season if you don't play 82 games, the same way you can't do your daily workout if you don't do it daily.
In 2024 your statement deserves a Nobel prize because nobody in the NBA has figured this out 😅
Facts
@@vsnrygaming8954common sense isn’t common anymore these days lol
Talk to’em.
True but 82 games plus playoffs is too damn long. In Europe and most countries they play once a week and they get injured a lot less.
I know one thing growing up watching 90's & 2000's basketball, I don't remember star players missing Playoffs series cause of injuries
Of course not because you're 20-30 years removed from it. Injuries in the playoffs happen. Now load management was definitely not a thing though
Todays game much more high pace and need stamina. Old heads like make themselves high lol.
@@koraycillare you sure about this comment? I think the late 60s and 70s the game was much faster with actual defense being played.
@@Dinojong actual defense you mean beating. Yea but todays nba does not allow that. Bad boys was too much but 90s ok. I like defense too. But 90s was different iso game it was like 1 vs 1 with best player vs defender. For me 80s games were best. But today they dont allow defense. Lately they allow though.
Grant Hill vs Miami
Bonzi made a great point about the rhythm with your teammates among other things.
Bonzi....the new podcast star.
And John Stockton and Karl Malone missed what 10 or 15 games combined in about 20 years. Let that sink in.
They were on roids
@@freddycalipari4242are they not on roids now?
@@freddycalipari4242don't be stupid
Bro if they were on roids in the 90’s they are on stuff that is 10x better now lol
I think Allen Iverson had the best mentality about the business. "Might be the first time someone gets to see me play".
He and Jordan and others did. It was why they went so hard when they played - they thought about the fans that went to see the games. They thought about the dad that sacrificed time and money to take his kid to see the player they liked. They understood that. But a lot of players and teams today - just don't care.
@alex1vid that's how the world is these days, just don't care so it's this young generation.
Right be your best then. Practice Iverson was all CAP
MJ mentality
Right on Bonzi ✊🏿, on a the load management response 💯
“That’s fashion”… “THAT AINT FASHION” 😂😂
The stars won't play a 20 minute game because it'll lower their averages and they're worried about stats. They'd rather sit out. That's why we have to have things like the 65 game rule and limits on number of stars sitting out.
Players DEFINITELY shouldn't load manage road games. Disappoint your own home fans.
If they sit out they should make them sign autographs after the game
🤣💀🤣
Cut them salaries by 70%
Cut yo salary by 70% tf
People who say pro athletes make too much are wild… I understand drs are more important… but if you factor in tickets, parking, concessions, jerseys per night (for 82 total games / 41 home) they’re still getting shorted! That’s leaving out the billions off tv & video games… just salty! Only 12 guys get to be on an NBA team it’s about as exclusive a job there is and even more rare they have an opening for college kids!
Rant over… defending millionaires when billionaires are the culprits making too much! 😆
@@michaelb3927 exactly!!! 1000% agree
Make their salary on per game basis
@@DeSmothers lmao meat riding nba players
All you have to do is give guys zeros for their stats for games not played and they would play
They'll just cry harder.. they don't even want to play 82
FR
I believe many skip games where they not 100% to not compromise their stats
I like that idea
I agree 100% when I was in the military we exercise everyday along with the daily grind of military training The body adapt to that.
This always been a problem when good players be out long stretches they always get hurt in the playoffs
They need to be playing at a gym with security every day. They all played daily back in the 80s and 90s. Our bodies are literally use it or lose it.
@sqredreaper facts. When I played every day every week you stay in a groove. When I started playing off and on (especially more off than on) it gets harder to get back on the court and recover from being hurt.
Players today are mistaken, they are under the impression they get paid a bunch of money because they are really good at basketball. That's incorrect. They get paid because they sell tickets and merch. If fans stop showing up and buying jerseys, they no longer bring in revenue and won't get a big contract. Fans won't pay if players don't play.
Good point
Agree....but the fans gotta stop supporting this bs. The league is at its worst & ratings are in the toilet.
This the excuse era of Basketball. Once ratings drop a little bit more they will make more changes
@@crharper25enablers is who they are
Don’t belly rubbed them players no more
It all goes back to the old question. Are you hurt, or are you injured? If you are hurt, play, even for a few mins. Injured? I understand. NBA is a business. Push comes to shove, the fans you are letting down by not showing up, are the ones that you have to appeal to. They are the ones that buy your jersey. They are the ones that buy your shoes. That being said, THEY are the ones that you need to show up for. THEY are the ones that you need to perform for.
Thats why i stopped watching.. Players crying about having to play 65 and skipping games
They love the lifestyle more than the game now.
Yeah they do.
Facts. All that money and the lifestyle probably disconnects them from the fans. Which why a lot of them probably don’t care about fans
💯🎯
manz said "kys" gahdamn lmaooo
The Clippers and 76ers been Load Managing and "Trusting the Process" for the last 5+ years and NOTHING to show for it
It's their overall lifestyle, micro plastics and diet that make them this vulnerable to wear and tear and or fatigue. Despite all resources and assessments available these players are still catering to the ignorance of mainstream life style habits.
Partying too much by fuckin with Instagram models
Are you really trying to blame microplastics, no. Oh heck no! 😂😂 that's the most ridiculous absurd thing I've ever heard.
MJ ate steak before every game.
Do trainers & rehab guys get fired for these players not staying healthy?
Congratulations on 100 k subs💨🍃👏

Bonzi perfectly explained LEONARD!
They want 20 years worth of checks for 10 years worth of games

This is one of the Best conversations, that young Athletes need to hear. I Love Wallace
Load management n lack of practice n also the players gear..these low top sneakers ain’t helping plus the mind set of the players n Gm aren’t to endure n get thru it’s always to be careful so guys don’t now how to play thru pain
The way I see it players today they don’t love basketball as players back in the 60s 70s 80s 90s and 2000s. Players today disrespects the fans. I think they need to get rid of this load management stuff. It’s stupid it’s dumb and for people who don’t wanna play the game I think they shouldn’t get paid and they should pay back to lose money for not playing that will get their ass up to actually start working to play the game but these players are spoiled
These new dudes sweet af. I noticed bout 10-12 years ago. Load management was originally for the older players who still wanted to be useful for the playoff run. It's been misused so much it don't even matter no more.
These dudes have no continuity it's like watching pick up games not professional basketball.
Hearing then talk probably explains why Phoenix got swept. Players in and out of the lineup all year.
Phoenix made me remember Ryan Davis' epic roast of KD last year. And he was 100% right and KD proved it
They played 40 games together 40…that’s ridiculous..missing games bc of thigh tightness ..head cold etc
@@PurpleImpactStrategies Same reason why I knew it wasnt gonna work in Brooklyn with Harden, KD, and Kyrie

This is awesome pod. 💯
The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. If a player has a injury they can play on that has season ending potential, then yeah load manage that. If its the chronically injured like Kawhi or Embiid watch them. But sitting because you want a day off, thats wack.
Marbury recently said he thinks players today get injured more because they dont grow up playing on outside courts anymore and I think he has a point. Outside courts are tougher and I think they toughen you up a little from all that impact, especially on your feet. MJ and Kobes trainer said players get injured more now because they dont lift weights like they used to.
What we have are a lot of regular season players, they're playing for the hall of fame and when it comes to post season they're not ready they spent everything in the regular season chasing individual awards, scoring title, MVP, DPOY, etc.
It aint no load management problem. It's the players not willing to play through bumps and bruises for that 1 thing they say they are in pursuit for. I personally blame the modern physical therapy, medical teams and dietary restraints they have on the players now days. A 28yr old should not be pulling hammy's while 'trotting' down the court. These players have world class teams of PT specialist paid as much as bench players. Dieticians monitoring and reporting on players diet to the organizations. People are pulling hammy's and sitting out of playoff games. But you still see them jumping up on the side line when someone gets dunked on or a bad call was made.
Its not the Load Management, its the Participation Trophies. These younger generations are soft. They get paid more, way more. They have less heart. Way less heart. They have no motivation to return from injury. Donovan Mitchell sitting out a win or go home playoff game with "calf soreness" is a perfect example.
5:07 😂😂😂 Not while I'm in the bathroom Sheed 🤦🏾😂😂
They can do the load management because players have the ability to keep getting signed, regardless of injury history... They are still paying Lonzo Ball and Ben Simmons as if they are starting talent.
I hate the argument people make now saying “protect my investment” as if the players weren’t huge investments before.
Load management…is irritating. As an elite athlete with all sorts of advantages you need to get your body right for what it is you do. The developed athletic body can take a lot of pounding and can do amazing things.
Reminds me of the year Chris Paul sat out during a Game 7 against the Warriors. Yes, he did have an injured hamstring. However, the potential of making it to the championships should been a motivating factor. His team and the fans could have used that necessary energy had he decided to play those five-ten minutes.
Willis Reed is a perfect example. His couple of buckets fueled the Knicks run to the point of winning the championship that year.
Why is no one listening to doctors who are saying for years now that the amount of games these kids are playing because of AAU travel ball is breaking down their bodies at a much younger age? By the time they come into the NBA their joints are already broken down a lot of times
There are no results showing that load management helps. The same ppl that load manage be the same ones that's hurt or losing in the 1st and 2nd round of the playoffs 😂
All facts....this is the least physical/no contact az era ever....yet these boys stay injured.
That old rugged, used, basketball on Bonzi’s hands surely feels good
Bonz said all facts!
Yo, support this podcast y’all! Real rap 🫡💯 Og’s of this game
Way to speak up Bonzi about the load management crap! I’m glad you guys understand it!
Between
1)Load Management
2) Freedom of Movement
3) Low Cut Sneakers
These 3 things have ruined basketball.
I never heard of a torn achilles until Kobe. The same person who introduced low cut shoes to the NBA.
5:49 😂😂😂😂
The term, “use it or lose it” used to be common knowledge. But its been erased from history, like so much timeless information.
Its about the players averages now.
I appreciate bonzi caring about the fans not getting to see what they paid for.......took my buddy to a pdx laker game and no kobe.......we were both bummed
Not the pants😭
Will never forget when my favorite player (T-Mac), for my first NBA game, was last minute out due to (actual) injury. I was heartbroken I couldn’t see him play in person after being so hyped to go, but I understood. I would be PISSED if I went to a game and they CHOOSE to sit out. Sh** is expensive!! You are an entertainer!!! Get your ass on the court if you’re healthy!!
Load management has zero to do with limiting injuries and 100 percent to do with extending one's career. Too much money is out there not to tack on a couple more seasons...
🤣 He says they couldn't miss practice in their day?? Iverson did. Barkley said he did. Pippen in his return Bulls season did often.
I wish I could give this a million likes. Just speaking truth, super entertaining. Man these guys have crazy chemistry
Old heads will hate this, (I'm an old head too, I'm almost 50) but, statically, when Sheed and Bonzi played, the game was much slower, shots lower, attempts lower, surprisingly, there's less turnovers now. Also, Bonzi, and Sheed's best statical seasons were when they were 25 and 26. Today, some of the best players are still going strong in the mid to late 30's. Steph 36, KD 35, LeBron 39. These young superstars today (Joker, Murray, Booker, Ja, Luka, Ant Edwards, SGA), will be in their prime for 12-15 years, instead of 4-6 from mid 20's through 31/32.
I've said this from jump, load management is trash but it's especially trash when you sit on away games, if you're gonna do it, do it for home games, your fans have 42 opportunities to see you
In the past eras, coaches manage their stars by resting them on blowout games, but if they can play, they will play
Keeping the same number of games makes comparisons easier. But less games would pressure players to play.
Great podcast, all these dudes are legit
Pat Riley just bashed Jimmy Butler for not being available
Load management is only being done by older players and dudes who are already injured or are injury prone. Dudes are making way money and playing for way longer and aren't afraid to go to another team so they don't view the loss of one season or one playoff as the end of the world.
The big thing to me is these guys sit out to "protect their brand". They don't want to play if they are marginally hurt because they think if they get a serious injury they will miss out on a bigger contract. And its like, first of all, never playing and costing your team will hurt your legacy more. And second, you guys are already multi millionaires. Most of the guys sitting out have 20m/yr contracts and they screw over the fans so that they can make sure they get that 80m extension? Then they wonder why fans turn on them? Guys back in the day used to get a fraction of what they get today and they would still go all out every game.
Bonzi he right. He out again..... Gee
Sheed &Bon z are spot-on with their assessments!! Just suit up and give the consumers 5-10 minutes, We as fans are putting our hardworking earn money 💰 putting mortgages and bills on the back end to go watch these stars to play,Not sit on the sidelines iced-out,draped in jewelry 😮😢
Spent 1k for two tickets to see the Lakers play the Nets last year. Only for Lebron and AD to sit out with "soreness" but they were both perfectly fine in msg the very next night. These playes of today are disgusting
100% agree. This load management bs has killed "real" basketball. Today's game is like the WWE, straight entertainment....no realness, toughness
I think load management (ie. Not playing games) is not the main problem that players get injured. Its the lack of practice time. They don't practice anymore..
Same thing with hitting the weight room
You guys mention the weight room I know both you guys remember Tony Massenburg I have lifted weights my entire life and I remember going to a game thinking this guy is insanely jacked! I really think he had his arms piled up.
Certain people say that today's NBA players are stronger than the guys who played before them. If that's true, why are there so many injuries happening? Why is it impossible for players these days to play through all 82 regular games?
Old school players were hard core men. Today, these players more interested in building a "brand", boosting their social media platforms, filming their Rocky III hotel lobby workouts. The NBA is ruined and hardly anyone watches it anymore. Congrats to the "Smarter" players of today.
Bonzi talks facts in here
Sadly, as much as I love and respect Pop, he started this with the Spurs big 3. Granted, Tim and Ginobili where in their mid to late 30s when they load managed, but it set an precedent that unfortunately, we haven't recovered from yet.
They allowed Analytical nerds who never played sports tell them rest is needed.
Exactly.. kids pay 100s and ppl taking healthy days off. I guess that's why everyone flopping, lol.
And this is one more reason why Kobe should be included in the 🐐 debate cuz he CARED about the guy making 60k a year who saved his 💰 to see the best of the best play. Kobe showed up for 82 if possible. In addition, he’s the closet thing we’ve seen to 🐐 man in every way.
The cards hat is 🔥
Here's something ironic, neither Bonzi or Sheed ever played a full season, never 82, but even in the strike shortened season of 98-99' neither of them played every game. You know who did? Duncan, LeBron, CP3 and KD👀
This is what has exited the league! Wisdom, Common Sense and Dedication!
Today's era is watered-down due to load management.
You play the game to win and want to get a nice seed as possible. Then the passion for the game aswell.
How can you manage that with load management
Tough circumstances makes tough ppl. Soft cushy circumstances makes Kawahi & Embiid 😂😂😂😂
Man, now I'm gonna have second thoughts about wearing them True Religion booty jeans. 😂

Sheed should be Coach of the Pistons
Cupcake era basketball players should do what MJ did. Take one year off playing baseball or golf for fun, then come back to the NBA and play ball.
Then you don’t have to spread out those load management days every year.
Someone had to say it. Please, stop comparing these dudes to 90’s!!! Doesn’t matter if these dudes can jump out the gym or shoot from outer space or that they’re “better athletes”. It’S NOT THE SAME GAME BY FAR
MJ played 7 Staight Seasons of all 82 Games.....Smdh 🤦
Greg Poppovich Started that Load Mngmnt BS
If you can play then you should play.
Sheed=hilarious.
Fashion.... thats not Fashion 😂😅😮
Load management plus the game is less physical. In the 90s guys built their bodies to take physical punishment. And guys were just use to the physicality of the game. So there would be plays, guys end up on the floor, get right back up. Today, I'm not even talking about dirty plays, but a guy could go to the basket, end up on the floor, not even intentionally, but he's now injured because his body isn't use to it. Today's players build themselves for athleticism. Not for physical contact
Load management was around my boy D Rose could've made it to stardom still 😒 😢, my Bulls been 💩 est.
