    I think you could have taped around dent to minimize sanding and build up of putty incase you weren't spraying whole guitar.

    The usefulness of this video may be somewhat limited as the approach concerns a guitar that is going to be refinished later on so the repair is executed on an area larger than the initial ding. Most folks with dings on their guitars do not wish to refinish the whole guitar but want to perform a spot-repair.

      Yes you're correct. This video is very specific ( I have had in the past loads of guitars, specially less expensive ones that have that kind of thick lacquer). There's another video with a very small dent.. czcams.com/video/bmP5cYYc4pQ/video.html Thanks for watching.

    Please don't think I'm trying to be overly critical, but I came onto this site hoping to find out how to fix and/or fill a BIG dent in the body of a solid-body electric guitar. What I found was a guitar body whose polymer coating had been ripped off at a small spot, but the structure and integrity of the wood underneath was still OK - i.e. little or no dent in the wood itself.
    Have you ever had to fix a guitar body with a really deep dent in it? Like if the guitar were to accidentally hit the corner of a speaker cab for instance? I suppose you would use the same techniques, just more filler - building up in layers 'til the filler was proud of the rest of the body, and then sand it down . .

    • @RevivedGuitars
      @RevivedGuitars  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi first of all thanks for watching the channel. No question is dumb, and debate is right way to do it. Yes on this case there was no dent on the wood. But the purpose of this video was to show that specific fillers have to be used adequately. Now if your guitar as a big dent and that is on the wood, a wood filler would be the most appropriate to use. Your description was more than adequate. There are a few more technics to use, there's a good tutorial here --> czcams.com/video/ttjiNx8-rbY/video.html. Hope it helps. Don't hesitate to ask if you're in doubt.

      Thanks for watching! Without looking at exactly the problem o cannot give you a definitive answer, but I will give you an advice. Because it is an acoustic guitar I would wood bondo/filler. Acoustic guitars react more to humidity changes so wood filler/bondo would be better. Because also reacts to humidity changes! Good luck

I personally don't understand it but it seems like everyone wants to ruin perfectly good guitars. I saw a guy on CZcams do it to a VOS 59 Les Paul, I almost puked. I prefer to do what you are doing and actually fix damage. I guess to each his own.

    Hi there, I have a Fender Standard Stratocaster (Arctic White with Maple neck and fret board) which has a tiny chip on the headstock (reverse side of near to where the Fender Stratocaster logo is as it curves down toward the neck), would the Halfords Chip/Scratch Repair Pen Clear Lacquer be suitable for filling the chip in?
    I live in the UK so the questions regarding products are relating to what I can get here.
    Halfords is a big UK automotive store chain.
    Also, in places on the back of the neck (along the top of the skunk stripe), there are a few scuffs, and as Fender uses Satin Gloss lacquer on the necks, would a Semi Gloss or Gloss lacquer spray (that I can buy from a DIY/Hardware store) be suitable or again the Halfords Chip/Scratch Repair Pen Clear Lacquer.
    On the body, there is a small dent along with some tiny cracks in the lacquer on the belly contour which is bothering me as I want to find a way to fill these in.
    I have tried Halfords looking for Arctic White lacquers but can't find any that closely matches the Fender Arctic White colour, what is your advice on how to do this myself with easily obtainable lacquers as I don't live near any guitar stores, luthiers or guitar technicians so I am faced with having to want to try and do all of the above myself and to make a very good, neat, perfect job of it and is permanent and as invisible or near invisible as is possible.
    I do have some fine grit sandpaper and a microfiber buffing/polishing cloth.
    My guitar had an encounter with one of my dogs that was a bit too curious which is how the dents, dings, scuffs and headstock chip occurred.
    Any advisory reply given will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    • @RevivedGuitars
      @RevivedGuitars  Před 6 lety

      Hi thanks for watching the channel. As for the halfords pen... if it is an affordable thing maybe you can try it in some piece of wood and see what's the final result. But i think it might work! As for the body ( Just my opinion, but it's nearly impossible to match the original color), so my advise is: there's a CZcamsr in England called Sam Deeks he repairs and sets up guitars. Have a talk with him I think he might have a good solution for you, even maybe taking your guitar.

A finished product at the end of the video also serves to make your video's point. Right now, all I see is you telling me that this technique works, but with no proof that it actually does.
