Venice Carnival 2024 is taking place from 27th January 2024 to 13th February 2024, and excitement for Venice Carnival is already on as people from all over the world gear up to witness the colorful and vibrant spectacle that is the Venice Carnival.
During the Venice Carnival, St. Mark's Square is transformed into a vibrant and colorful scene, as performers, street artists, and musicians take to the square to entertain the crowds. Participants in the carnival also flock to the square, dressed in elaborate costumes and masks, to be a part of the festive atmosphere.
This festival dates back to the 11th century and has been a celebrated event for over a thousand years. The Venice Carnival is known for its elaborate masks, ornate costumes, and stunning parades that take place throughout the city.

According to legend, the Carnival of Venice began after the military victory of the Venetian Republic over the Patriarch of Aquileia, Ulrich II von Treven, in the year 1162. In honour of this victory, the people started to dance and gather in St Mark's Square. Apparently, this festival started in that period and became official during the Renaissance. In the 17th century, the Baroque Carnival preserved the prestigious image of Venice in the world. It was very famous during the 18th century. It encouraged licence and pleasure, but it was also used to protect Venetians from present and future anguish. However, under the rule of the Holy Roman Emperor and later Emperor of Austria, Francis II, the festival was outlawed entirely in 1797 and the use of masks became strictly forbidden. It reappeared gradually in the 19th century, but only for short periods and above all for private feasts, where it became an occasion for artistic creations.
After a long absence, the Carnival returned in 1979. The Italian government decided to bring back the history and culture of Venice and sought to use the traditional Carnival as the centrepiece of its efforts. The redevelopment of the masks began as the pursuit of some Venetian college students for the tourist trade. Since then, approximately 3 million visitors have been coming to Venice every year for the Carnival.[2] One of the most important events is the contest for la maschera più bella ("the most beautiful mask"), which is judged by a panel of international costume and fashion designers. 🥳

What really catch’s my attention is the non-thank you after posing besides the person in costume
While most tourists express their gratitude with a 'thank you' after posing, but sadly there are some who don't.
The Venetians are as gracious as the tourists are rude
It dismayed me also.
It's why Venetians are now weary of tourists. The tourists act like they own the city.
Even here in the US we say thanks after a photo but I bet it was omitted bc it would have interrupted the flow of the video

Venice is indeed a magical place. Spent many a happy day whiling away the hours drinking wine by the orchestra in St Marco.
Never made the Carnival and always wanted to. Some of the costumes are exquisite, with the exception of the wolf in trainers. I thought the tourists having their photo's taken were quite rude just walking away without a thank you. The video was really enjoyable apart from the music began to do my head in until I muted it. But thanks for posting.

La grande classe des déguisements qui représentaient la sérénissime a perdu de son "élégance .a part quelques uns qui réussissent encore faire lexception .Les têtes de morts et les costumes diaboliques n'ont pas leur place et ne représentent en rien l'histoire du Carnaval et sa tradition du passé .. Bien triste de voir un carnaval qui n'est plus ce qu'il a été .même si la ville reste un joyaux mais pour combien de temps?...
1% of this spectacle are flawless and pull it off with such ease, you'd think they were authentic. then there's the cringe majority where the costumes were rentals, didn't fit, made them look fat, then the group of what were you even thinking. the whole thing is so foreign that even imagining participating makes me run for the hills, cuz no way i could pull it off. and if i can't be in that 1% of flawless, there's no way i'm putting myself out there. for all those that did, hat's off, you're far more brave than i
