It was the first model my dad bought me at 5 y o . I ve got others ,but this car was pulled out of the box and finishwd in 45 minutes . WITH PAINT

    The Turbine car is really cool. Chrysler made a few of them, 55 to be exact, 5 of them were prototypes and the other 50 were part of a loaner type of trial program. When the program ended, all of the cars were collected by Chrysler and destroyed, all but 9 of them that is. The remaining cars are in museums, Chrysler kept 2 of them and Jay Leno actually has one in his collection.
    I don't have very many models but my oldest is an unbuilt kit of the ZZ Top Eliminator car by Monogram, 1985.
    My coolest is a toss up, between my unbuilt Swindler II kit by Revell, 1989, or my built AMT General Lee, hard to choose. Good questions!!!

    My oldest? The Revell Highway Pioneers gift sets given to my Dad and Grandfather circa 1953/1954. The one box says "Series 3", it was $4.45 back then and included a paint set, a brush, and some glue. The brush and glue are gone but the paint set is still there and the paints haven't turned solid after almost 70 years! Yes, these models are acetate and no, they're not warped.

    Interesting how two of your three coolest models are JoHan. The Turbine did reach production of only around 100. They were shared across the country, two to a state and rotated in six month periods. Chrysler wanted to call it the Typhoon, but AMC had come out with the Classic 770 Typhoon in 1964 to introduce their new seven main bearing Typhoon engine. Great video, though.

    My oldest unbuilt kit is the 1976 Revell 1/32 Corsair Baa Baa Black Sheep tv series release kit # H580. Cool enough by itself, but I think my coolest unbuilt is the MPC 1984 original first release of the Dodge Daytona Turbo Z. It was when MPC was owned by Fundimensions, and still has the Golden Wheels tokens on the side of the box, and redemption form in the box to choose and order your free kit when you have saved enough tokens. I have built several and MPC got it right with this kit. If you can find one you will have a blast building it.😁

    Matt I've been told the Turbine car molds (model kit, not the promo) cost $250,000+ when they were made. Idk what was that '62 - '63? According to google 1962 dollars to now that would be worth 2.5 mil. The guy that told me that said John Haenle (who started Jo-han) promptly deposited a brick in his shorts when he learned the total cost.... lol... so you could take all that big time YT money and make your own right? Just kidding of course...
    Asking these fundamental questions about ourselves, what we do, what we like is great. It's always interesting to see other peoples perspectives and enthusiasm about things we all have in common. Hearing someone explain what or why it means something to them always makes us better ourselves, and gives us a broader picture of the hobby and the people in it. Good guys give credit where it's due, good for you. Thanks for sharing

    My coolest is also the Chrysler turbine. It's a unique kit of a very unique car. 55 were made and 50 were loaned to a couple hundred people for a 2 year program. Only 9 survive and I believe there's only 2 running cars left

    My oldest kit is an original release AMT '40 Ford sedan. Circa 1960. Actually I have 4 of them. 5 if I count the salvage kit I got last summer. This one is being rebuilt as a drag car. Blown Nailhead engine, and 1950s period correct narrow slicks. The Coolest one, is also one of the original release Ford sedans. This one will get either the 427 engine out of an original release AMT '32 Victoria, or a 312 T- Bird engine. That is what will make it cool. That and a custom mix dark purple paint job.

  • @grimwurks
    @grimwurks Před rokem

    good question! I have to say my most unique kit is the Amtronic car kit . . . my most treasured kit is the Chrysler Turbine ( I have 3 as well, all white plastic ). It is the first kit I bought back in the 80's that I enjoy the most for the way it was puzzle packed in the box, completely filling the box. Unusually, of all the people who have reviewed the kit I have never seen my version, which is not a flatpack but a regular model car kit box. A close second for my favourite is the Silloettte with the clear trailer. Honourable mention would be the Rommel's Rod.

    History. The first plastic models were manufactured at the end of 1936 by Frog in the UK, with a range of 1/72nd scale model kits called 'Penguin'. In the late 1940s several American companies such as Hawk, Varney, Empire, Renwal and Lindberg began to produce plastic models.

    While I have since bought older model kits the 2 kits I have owned the longest are both 1/32 scale Aurora kits; the 56 Ford demo derby car and the 1934 roadster Scat Cat. I have owned both of these kits since they were new from about 1965 or 1966 and both have survived in surprisingly good condition. My oldest is probably a Highway Pioneers 1904 Rambler kit from the mid '50's which I recently completed and was a freebie because the guy that gave it to me don't like 1/32 scale kits. The coolest is much more difficult to decide as I have accumulated hundreds of kits over the years. Maybe my Mod Squad woody which is still unbuilt, although I plan to build it because that's what these things were made for!
