- The newest incarnation of Twilight 2000 doesn't seem to know whether it wants to be military fetishism or a personal storytelling game about ethics vs pragmatism. It lacks the granularity to satisfy crunchy wargamers, and the courage of its convictions to satisfy the latter. It's a confused #TTRPG that doesn't seem to know which it is, or which it wants to be.

Interesting review. Tbh ive ordered this to run as a solo, survival hexplore. Theres some good stuff available on drivethru rpg too, including a Zombie add on. Which i intend to use. Ill let you know how it plays. 👍
Personally I like less crunch.
It works great in actual play.
Too much rules gets in the way of playing the actual game!

Excellent review I think youre spot on. I was going to pick this up for nostalgia really but the lack of crunch and the gamestyle really decided me against it. I like both type of gamestyles as well, this just doesnt gel for me.
Pretty much the same thoughts i had with the game. Especially since more narrative systems (Patrol: A vietnam rpg) or more crunch (Zozer games "Modern War", older Twilight eds, GURPS), can easily do the same. Hearsay says that those criticisms seem to have been around since even before the kickstarter via some counseling of old T2k veterans from the juhlin forums which have been happily ignored by the dev team of this edition.
Bullet sizes matter. This game is also a hexbased war game with roleplay elements

Unfortunate timing for them to release the game (though not as unfortunate as the Ukranians). I could have enjoyed 1980s cold war nostalgia, but playing a game based on what’s on the news is not escapism.
Except for the fact that this game isn’t ‘based’ on what’s on the news at the moment!! It’s set over 20 years ago ‘based’ on a fictitious war. 🤔

So, play the real life LARP instead of this underwhelming remake? Got it.
