    This is exactly why I love CZcams! Thanks for an incredibly INFORMATIVE video on toggle bolts! I've got metal studs in a new basement construction office/bedroom and want to mount a 40 lb TV. Just can't determine if I even NEED to go through the metal studs, and what KIND of toggle to use!

      No problem! Anything besides TV I'd say use drywall anchors but a TV you really need at least one of these bolts in the steel stud. I like the one in the video because you only need a 3/8" hole.

      @@toolsandrepairs Thanks. Actually, my TV is only 25 lbs (42"). With 6 steel hollow mollies rated at 50 lbs each, and mounting a NON-SWIVEL TV mount, I shouldn't have any issues going directly into the drywall instead of the metal studs.

      I just mounted a 65" with 6 toggle bolts going straight to the drywall. Standing strong.@@toolsandrepairs Thanks for this video!

    Thank you for your video explaining how to use this. I was a bit worried after reading the reviews on Home Depot. This is a good exercise to practice patience and not hastiness. :)

    Very helpful video, thank you. I ended up using snap toggle bolts (1/4") for my DIY TV wall mount installation in my condo. This video really helped me get that project completed!

      How did it work? Need to mount one in my condo as well. Did you hit any metal studs?

    With the standard toggle bolt the screw has to be through the bracket before you insert it into the wall

    The 1/4 inch screw version of this has the notches that the #3 philip's screwdriver is supposed to engage with to screw it into the wall is too widespread for any plilips bit to grip. A wide straight blade screwdriver bit can turn it,but the first one I tried, the plastic piece of the insert failed on one side so that the only way I could screw it the rest of the way in was with an adjustable wrench gripping around the flat sides of the metal part of the anchor insert, so I'm now hoping it holds together without dropping the metal part of the insert inside the wall before the bolt can be screwed into it. And the hole in the plastic portion is too small for the included 1/4 inch screws to go in without having to cut its own threads into the plastic portion before getting to the metal part the bolt is supposed to be threaded into.

      It's definitely an odd design. I go with snap toggle type toggle bolts. They need to make those that require a 3/8" hole, which is the only reason I'd use this Driller toggle.

    Using the toggle.. do you have to drill the stud first?
    Can the toggle really get through the metal stud by hand?

    • @toolsandrepairs
      @toolsandrepairs  Před 2 lety

      For this toggle, you have to drill a 3/8" hole through the drywall and metal stud before inserting in the hole and then toggling with the bolt

    Is it possible to leave about an 1 1/2 inch over hang of screw and still mount a tv?

    If I am hangin a heavy frame can I leave the head of the screw unscrewed a bit?

      These and other kinds of toggle bolts can be tricky for that because the bolt will push in easily as you try to hang the item. One way is to put the bolt through a picture hanger or washer with hook on it and tighten all the way, then hang the item on that hook.

    This just failed on me, for some reason the screw didnt go through the whole of thebfastener but through the plastic and so the metal hook didnt go vertical, the hole came off as I was putting on the tv, thank god I didnt let go of the tv and managed to get it out but yeah :///

      Was it in a metal stud? If not, a lag bolt through a wood stud is ideal, followed by several of the larger flip toggles. One problem with these is that the other side of the wall MUST be vertical or the bolt will not thread. If it's not, like plaster or if there is insulation or something, then an old style toggle bolt is preferable because it is already thread in the bolt.
