- This short video introduces the Gift Prints produced by Tokyo woodblock printmaker Dave Bull, and his Mokuhankan workshop.
It's actually a remake of a similar video produced a number of years ago, updated for the current generation of fans ... [Update: the price mentioned in this years-old video is no longer applicable ... sorry!]
The Gift Prints are available from this page:
mokuhankan.com/gift/index.php
Many similar prints can also be obtained through Dave's Mokuhankan publishing venture - look in the catalogue there for the items described as 'HangaClub':
mokuhankan.com/catalogue/thumb...
And, for reference, the company making the software that "Doesn't Suck" is BareBones; their website is here:
www.barebones.com/products/bbe...
This is the classiest commercial I've ever seen.
Two years later - still true.
U should try porters channel than
It worked on me. Can't wait to start receiving prints!
Try long long man
Business!💩🤑🤮
The ASMR is strong in this one.
hahahahahaha
Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response or in short a tingle like feeling one gets from certain things being said or done to them
@@homieyosh1342 don't know why but hearing someone else other than myself explain this is soooooo relieving
@@mynameisntdave6012 I saw that certain was spelt wrong and changed it. Thanks for replying, also I do too so I know where your coming from
It's my favorite video ever
This guy is fantastic. Fantastic personality, charisma, body language. He should have his own tv channel.
Claiming your works aren't garbage must be the understatement of the year. A truly exquisite print!
nice pfp
so inspirational, he reminds me of Bob Ross
The ImpStrangler true
I was actually gonna post something like ''The Bob Ross of Japanese printing''.
i am getting tired of this comment in all of his videos for the past years. Aside from the voice( and the cool beard) he is nothing like bob ross.
@@cionm7077 his kind hearted nature and passion for his art (much like Bob Ross)
Sexy cave Troll he cares less for the art and more for the method, the crafting of it. He himself says so.
I have just received this print from Mr Bull and his talented workers and can say it’s even more stunning up close. It took 5 days to arrive from Japan to England. He’s right, it’s not garbage, it’s beautiful.
Coming in Summer 2022 "it's not garbage-remake-champion edition" staring Davids 35 year old fridge
200 years... it`s difficult to grasp the idea for people today, you walk the streets of some cities and there is this building from 1780, the other from 1653, and so on. soon the idea of time takes another meaning, it`s mind boggling at first (at least for me a "new" world man). then i met my wife and she shows me her house, the family house in which they had lived for generations more than 200 years! now i understand deeply the concept and i strive to put it in my work (blacksmithing) but it`s getting harder and harder for me to explain as there`s so much money into the "garbage" industry.
it`s so refreshing, so inspirational (sorry the cheesy moment) to see your work as place where all these concepts come alive. thank you very much for sharing, work and thoughts. regards. pete
Thanks for the comment … I have to be careful not to leave the impression that I’m trying to say “New = Bad; Old = Good”. I’m pretty happy living in the ‘present’ here, and am enjoying very much some of the objects that I use in my daily life. But it’s also a strong pleasure to be involved in work that suits so closely the ‘new ethics’ of low-energy profile, sustainability, re-cyclability, etc. etc. that are now so much needed in our society ...
This seriously convinced me to purchase a print, and I'm not easily swayed by things like this. You're an incredible marketer, whether you know it or not.
I don't know why CZcams recommended one of your videos to me, but since then I have been binge watching your channel. You may be an artist, a carver, and a business owner, but what you do best is tell stories. You are a fabulous story teller and I get mesmerized by them. Thank you!
How is the fridge doing? :-)
I really hope that Studio Ghibli take you up on the offer at some point soon. They'd look beautiful.
They would make a tidy little packet out of that.
Ghibli is a looser
I could listen to this guy talk for hours.
this is beautiful
I reckon David doesnt know he is an unintentional ASMR legend.
Brilliant. Understated, honest and thoughtful.
This is a fascinating story
If I ever visit Japan (which i'm sure I will) i'm seeking this man and shop out for some Japanese tea and a few prints to begin my collection. Amazed by the skill and dedication that goes in to these. Well done David.
“You never actually own a Patek Phillipe. You merely look after it for the next generation.”
I bought one of your prints recently as a gift (the Hiroshige Sleeping Owl) and it was absolutely gorgeous (and hugely appreciated by the recipient!)

i do believe ill be ordering a print shortly.

I could listen to you for hours... such a pleasing and calm voice... kinda like Bob Ross :)
Not only is his voice is great but he is funny and seems to have a wonderful personality .
You are the Bob Ross of wood carving/print making/asmr! You are amazing!
THIS IS THE MOST KINDEST AND TRUE VIDEO
I don´t think the world will last for another 200 years
I always love your videos. I don't earn a whole lot, but I do hope to be able to save up and buy a few of your prints. Keep up the phenomenal work!
I'm not even an artist. I admire great work, but I'm simply here for the asmr aspect. He's so soothing to listen to and, in many ways, reminds me of Bob Ross. Great guy and keep the videos coming!
I bought my brother this gift print for Christmas - I was amazed at the quality of the work and needless to say, viewing it on a mobile phone doesn't don't justice. Great work Dave and all the guys, keep it going!!
What an amazing coincidence! I saw your video on Ito Susumu some months ago and only recently remembered your channel. The storytelling was superb and the video was calm and relaxing, I had to see more. I found your channel yesterday and decided to watch from the beginning and of course the first of those videos was "It's Not Garbage!"
May 2022. Back to rewatch again
It's not garbage, and never will be!
That's a damn good slogan.
Hey David! I love your work. Thanks for taking the time to share your talent with the rest of us.
This...change the entire way I used to look at carvings/ukyo-e
And it also taught something extremely valuable.
Thank you very much, Mr. David.
I want to give this man a hug
I lost my tingles a long time ago for ASMR. It is a raaaare asmrtist who triggers me. This guy is it.
Still return to this amazing video every now and then
I know it may sound a bit off but essentially sir what you are able to pull off is an genuine ASMR experience. Your voice is deeply suiting and considering my self as an ASMR connoisseur I can tell that no matter how hard and far (or should I say low) other people may attempt to simulate a ASMR experience nothing and I mean nothing can come even remotely close to the real thing. What I think can be traced in your voice and words is those deep emotions of love and appreciation towards your work, your craft and the fruits of your effort. That deep care of the things you made, the way you look and handle them. That is love in one of it's purest form and it can be traced in your voice. Thank you sincerely for the content you produce.
Love love love your videos. So inspiring and also somehow therapeutic. Thank you for helping to keep this tradition alive and simultaneously bring it to life to so many viewers. Watching your videos has taught me so much, thank you!
Its time for another remake of this Dave!!! Just got my gift print in the mail today :).
Never have I watched a better coommercial.
The art is lovely, and the voice is calm and soothing. All told, this is a top-notch case for those prints being Not Garbage.
How's Davids fridge doing as of October 2019?
Still plugging away ... (although it uses so much electricity, it really should be replaced with something newer ...)
@@seseragistudio still going eh? Didn't know honda made fridges 😜

Dave Bull, yeeeeessss. I stumbled over this gem a year or so ago just looking up woodblock prints
You really know how to market your products. They look beautiful and are works of art.
Amazing video as always David, very calming and with a great message.
What a beautiful print! And very true words! Thank you very much for sharing this!
Is the fridge still running?
You should carve a print of it so that it can live for 200 years 🤯
🤣
I'm sold
Have you ever thought of doing voiceovers for audio books? You have a great voice for it
wow! just checked the site and im sold. beautiful and stunning work :)
Holy Crap David! You are freaking HONEY in this...I want one of each!
you're a legend, Dave
thank you so much for sharing .. everything you share :) respect!
p.s. I viewed few dozen of your vids and I'm still waiting one where you don't stop/cut/edit yourself talking as your experience of subject drives you no matter how randomly it goes because I enjoy mostly at your wisdom and perspective on everything you do,think and feel. I hope I didn't go to far, if I did I apologize and in the future will respect you and your work in silence.
Again thank you Master.
So lovely.
Thank you for your videos.
Greetings from Colombia.
Kon'nichiwa David, your work is masterful and your patience in astounding! One only thinks they understand until they have visited Japan and experience the culture of art, tradition, religion and respect. BTW, my son is stationed at Camp Zama in Zama, Kanagawa which we were fortunate enough to visit just before the Covid-19 shutdown. What a wonderful place to live! I'm jealous...
This made me subscribe.
Have you heard anything from Studio Ghibli?
I was going to ask the same thing lol. Hopefully they got in touch.
Not a peep ... sorry to report! :-(
Mr. Red Bird mayazaki will surely accept. if he see this, im sure he will recognize the master bull is.
Beautiful prints!
If you made a video or two now about gift prints, I think you'd have a lot of orders by Christmas time. You do a lot of work explaining the process and details of the work (which I love) but at the same time, there is nothing wrong with throwing in a little promotion for yourself.
Mmm very relaxing as always
Thanks David!
This is such a beautiful channel.
Beauty full video. Thanks for sharing
Still my favorite video. I wish it was an hour long, but still by favorite 🙂

Great speech!
Beautiful and his voice was made for ASMR!
Beautiful statement 💯💯 classic David bull
Is the fridge still going? Also the Prints make an amazing anniversary gift!
The old fridge - purchased in 1991 - is actually still chugging along. I suppose it should be replaced by a newer model that uses less electricity, but as long as it still works ...

1- Each print is placed on a backboard for stability
2- It's then packed in an elegant little folder
3- It goes into an envelope which is wrapped with a nice decorative paper
4- It's then prepared for mailing with some nice commemorative Japanese stamps as a little added bonus touch

His move at 3:48 is dynamite! what a great video :D
I wish this video was 12 hours long.
Would you consider doing a Q&A? Love your channel.
I thank many of our items can be maintained forever, and are their own art. Surely not all appliance are, but many are worth repairing and maintaining forever. Please don't imply its acceptable to throw in the garbage, what breaks.
Your prints can rip, and be masterfully reglued. Still inspiring all it did.
Preserve your posessions, as you do yourself.
Otherwise they are not worthy of your money.
You buy not just art, appliance, beauty, but an obligation.
Storytelling master!
Wet plate photos last centuries! Forever buddies!
Putting it another way. It will last, be cared for and remembered probably longer than the grave of anyone reading this comment.
Shut up and take my money. You've got quite a pitch there.
