  • French artist Francoise Gilot has made a name for herself with her paintings, but it's two other names that have given her special notoriety. She was a longtime companion of Pablo Picasso and later she was the wife of renowned scientist Dr. Jonas Salk. As a couple, they traveled all over the world and now three of her sketchbooks from those trips have been published in a book by Taschen. Anthony Mason reports.

The fact that she survived so long with Picasso is a testament to this woman. Class and dignity personified.

I have the utmost respect for this incredible human being. I wish they would stop introducing her first by her two marriages. She is a force within her own right and should be introduced not only by her paintings, her writings, her journalizing, and my favorite her speaking. Her life is a tour de force

@@ginterez653 I can't tell for sure cause I don't know her well enough (that's actually the first video of her i see) but I think she did ,
Clémence Poésy is a good actress and at least I didn't reconized her, I was thinkin' she looks familiar and then I searched and she's playing in many films, the most recent of which being Tenet that I watrched just a few days ago (and still didn't recognized her) so I take that as a good sign.

She was rich enough to fend for herself without him and so when she stopped loving him she left him. I thinks she's pretty cool. She was the only woman to ever walk away from picasso. A fame loving- gold digger would not walk away like this from her sugar daddy after a decade togeather and with two kids.

The creative process that accompanies Françoise Gilot, which is based on intuition and expression, is completely in line with contemporary Compmaturism. With her works, she invites the viewer to an endless adventure in which nothing is obvious, which is fascinating in her work

It's so hard to picture a 21 y/o with a 61 y/o by today's standards. I think she was a highly coveted woman in her own right and she felt Picasso was not only the prize because of his celebrity and wealth, but she also found her artistic counterpart....I mean, he was Picasso after all.

Was she a self-absorbed golddigger out for fame and notoriety? If she was self-reliant, deemed a good artist and person in her own right, she wouldn't have to use other famous or infamous people to promote herself. Did she feel entitled use other people's name, positions and assets to advance her art goals and status?

She said in another interview that she came from wealth and unlike his other companions she didn't have to rely on him financially and when she was ready to leave the relationship she left! She even said he tried to get her to have more children but she refused and said two was enough! She said she was only with him because she loved him and I believe her!
