Living in Prescott, AZ USA I'm very jealous of your profession which "requires" you to travel in the manner you do. Especially to all of the wonderful destinations you have posted. Thank you for all the time and effort to post these videos - I always look forward to them.
Probably my favourite video yet. Very cool start - being driven past the big jets. Fantastic explanations, scenery, location, pilot and aircraft. Thank you for sharing.
ohhh lugano bella!!! a great appr and beautiful landing. and thanks for the videos are very instructive for those who are dedicated to the simulation. #loveDA42
Thank you for your videos, great quality of the hole video and audio. Watched all your vids a few times, hopefully i will be able to do some of your trips by my own. If everything works out as planned i will make my ppl this year. Wish you all the best and thanks.for.your videos.
Great video and stunning views! I have done my Instrument Rating in a DA42 and find it to be a great aircraft! The annoying gear warning horn can be silenced by pulling the CB (just must remember to push it again and that's why we test the gear/fire horns before the approach). And the terrain alerts can also be turned off on the MFD before an approach to avoid the distraction.
+walouu Glad you get something out of them. I learn a lot myself from making the videos, listening to the ATC once again and how I responded, seeing how I perceived different situations, etc. It's like flying twice as much as I do. Unlike professional pilots, I fly to a lot of airports I've never been to before, or only visit rarely, so it shows how well I have prepared and how well I listen to ATC. There are mistakes and misunderstandings, mostly small ones, in all the videos, and those are what I learn from. Also, when I haven't been flying in a few weeks, I can watch a couple videos and it helps get me back into the swing before I get into the plane.
Ah ah! Now I know which plane he spent so much time to land ... I was in one of the five gliders blocked for your traffic! ...anyway nice twinengine and nice landing. Thanks for posting it :-)
Yeah, IFR gets the VIP lane. Sorry! But, seriously, they blocked gliders who were circling for final? I guess that takes some real planning for you guys.
Hey Jaunty17, I love your videos ! I started to use a prop fitler for my videos, you should try one, it really is much better without that strange prop effect. Cheers !
Great videos. Great insight into IFR flying for a VFR PPL like myself. What is your main purpose for all your flights? Guessing business? Great opportunity to use you licence...
The SID is assigned by ATC, but at regional airports you can normally figure it out in advance. For a given runway in use and a given exit point, there is only one SID. At larger airports there can be several SIDs for the same RWY/waypoint combination.
Hi Jaunty, I see a lot of shots through the windscreen looking foreword. Have you put the camera on the dash or is the zoom foreward done in the editing software? Nice views.
+GobsDeaDove The DA42 is very stable, having a wing loading (23.9) closer to a DC-3 than a C152. You notice this in its high demonstrated cross-wind of 25 kts, which is evident in practice. (A C152 compares with 12 kts.) The flip side of the coin is the higher stall speed (61 vs 35 for the C152) and the relatively sluggish handling. But then, the DA42 is designed to give you nice, stable standard-rate turns, which it does.
Hi! I'm a bit late but I just got my multi in a DA42 and I was wondering why at 29:00 when you had to descend quickly, you didn't put the gear down? I probably would because it's good down to Vne and I wouldn't want to hear the beeping. I'm not saying you're wrong because I'm relatively inexperienced but I'm just curious why. Beautiful video of the mountains by the way!
Quick question, does when switching on the Deice pump switch 1 and 2, do you actually hear the sound of a pump being turned on? Thanks for all these videos I really enjoy them.
nice.. i notice when you turn on AP button you hit flc button and hdg change button to go to the flt plan course and altitude most times in your vids you can also just hit the red AP button after you have pitched to 90 knots and point towards the flt plan course.. that will hold pitch n roll till it captures the nav heading and altitude selected saves a few steps and button pushes
That's interesting Mike. What "red AP button" do you mean? Also, are you saying that the AP will automagically acquire the NAV course while on PITCH and then change by itself to NAV? Will it also set itself to FLCH? I'm not sure what the behavior is you're describing, but it sounds intriguing. Maybe you could elaborate?
the red button by your left thumb lol that should turn on pitch and roll auto pilot ''hold'' mode,, which holds the plane at whatever it is doing at that moment so if you have the plane already pitch to 90 knots,, it will hold that till the selected altitude is captured as well if you point the nose towards the flt plan course before you hit the red button.. AP... it will capture the nav course set on the flt plan so just arm the nav and altitude you want before takeoff then when your over the 800 foot mark... point and pitch to the course you want to track and speed you want to climb at and then hit the red AP by your thumb and it will hold whatever you have the plane set at at that moment till it captures the preset nav and alt .. hope that makes it more clear,,, will save at least 4 button pushes,, hope that helps
OK, so it seems you are flying a different aircraft than the DA42-VI. In this aircraft, the "red button" on the stick disengages the AP, nothing else. It does not set the AP in any kind of "hold" mode. This may be different in the aircraft you fly, as the G1000/GFC700 installation can differ between types. What aircraft do you fly?
MAGA Flightsim „knowledge“ shouldn‘t be brought into real aviation. A thumb button NEVER turns an autopilot on, NEVER! The last thing you want is an accidentally turned on AP when on final or ever else. If your sim model does that it‘s simply wrong, sry.
Very nice Jaunty, we use the DA42 here at FTA in Shoreham. Are you using the NG version? Thanks for posting this video very well done and what a lovely flight it must have been! Take care!
+Gael Mebiame Yes, it is the VI model, which has the NG (Austro) engines and a bunch of aerodynamic "clean-up" improvements. It was a beautiful flight!
+Gael Mebiame I schooled on the TDI models. The power difference is very noticeable at TO and climb. Cruise speed at altitude is 175 KTAS. It will maintain altitude at service ceiling (18,000') with one engine inop. Quite a difference.
hi, quick question: at what alt did u cross the alps? still at fl100? i think i read somewhere that u need more clearance when flying above high mountains?
The tablet has the considerable amount of information necessary to fly according to instrument flight rules. The white paper is a flight log and where I write down the frequencies, waypoints, etc., ATC gives me over the radio.
It depends on what distances you need to cover, and what altitudes you intend to fly at. The cabin is not pressurized, so above FL100 you have to think about oxygen tanks and each passenger having a cannula. Also people react to altitude differently, and not everyone is comfortable above FL100 or 120 even with oxygen. If you are taking three passengers, then you can't count on fuel for more than a planned trip of about 2.5 hrs (at 165 TAS, more if you're willing to go slower). Otherwise, a very capable aircraft in every way.
Jeppesen mobile flight deck for IFR charts & plates, Rocketroute for planning/filing, AeroWeather for TAF/METAR, AirNav pro for VFR charts & GPS ownship. Have tried JeppFD VFR for charts/plates on the continent; worked fine, but is pretty expensive.
I could not fly the way I do without them. While there are a few airports i frequent, I also fly often to completely new destinations. I am unfamiliar with the routing, the airport plates, the ground routines in the AIP, etc. I also fly many multi-point trips, with two, three or more airports. Often I re-plan in the middle of the trip from one destination to another, etc. All that would not be possible without tools like RocketRoute and the Jepp plates. Having access to all the information i need in the format I need it is invaluable. If I didn't have them, I would spend all my time on the ground just flight planning and reading AIPs; not so much fun. it's also a matter of safety, since those tools also allow me to access weather and NOTAMs in a time-saving way, so I am better prepared for what may lay ahead. It is all part of the "cost of doing business".
Yes. But it’s “IR” (Instrument Rating), which you need to fly under “IFR” (Instrument Flight Rules), which is required in “IMC” (Instrument Meteorological Conditions).
Wow, thank you for your fast reply - If all wents good I can start to doing my PPL(a) Licence soon. (In Carinthia) :) (means I'll get even a course about "flying in the alps". I'm really intrested in a DA42 (the DA62 'd be too expensive for me :/) -- happy landings! Note: How embarassing that I've mixed up the words xD IFR -> IMC -> (up to ILS approaches) :D
I guess you are referring to Jeppesen Flight Deck on the iPad, that shows the planned route. It also has all the arrival, approach and AD plates (requiring subscription).
What a beautiful flight! Thank you for sharing it!
Living in Prescott, AZ USA I'm very jealous of your profession which "requires" you to travel in the manner you do. Especially to all of the wonderful destinations you have posted.
Thank you for all the time and effort to post these videos - I always look forward to them.
Steve, I am jealous too... Jaunty, you have to tell us what business you are in because it looks very interesting.
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing you flight!!
I really do love your videos. Please keep up the great work!
Amazing production you deserve an Oscar, Ty for all your videos!!!
Great video and what a beautiful place to fly into, thanks for the upload jaunty17.
A great video, beautiful scenery and very informative. Thank you for posting it.
Excellent detail. Love the flight planning. Beautiful scenery. Thanks so much. Liked.
Probably my favourite video yet. Very cool start - being driven past the big jets. Fantastic explanations, scenery, location, pilot and aircraft. Thank you for sharing.
So cool..Thanks for letting me ride along...
ohhh lugano bella!!! a great appr and beautiful landing. and thanks for the videos are very instructive for those who are dedicated to the simulation. #loveDA42
Welcome in Switzerland , Beautiful flying close the Pilatus Factory, Tank You for all great vidéos.
Thank you for your videos, great quality of the hole video and audio. Watched all your vids a few times, hopefully i will be able to do some of your trips by my own. If everything works out as planned i will make my ppl this year. Wish you all the best and thanks.for.your videos.
The sound those engines make is just mesmerizing. Congratulation on the job which allow you to do that much flying.
Fantastic film. Beautiful aeroplane and location, well filmed and interesting. Cheers.
I love your IFR Flight videos!
Great video Jaunty. You can tell from the amount of bizjets how nice the place must be....
Very impressive the skill level and the view Bella.
Beautiful landing!!
great video! Nürnberg is my home base! ;)
Very well-flown approach! There's so much beautiful scenery in that area, and quite different from flying in Québec, Canada :)
Outstanding.
Great video and stunning views! I have done my Instrument Rating in a DA42 and find it to be a great aircraft! That was epic!
Amazing views
very good made!
One can See, that you are eager to shoot a good movie.
keep on like that.
many Happy landings.
It must take a lot of your time to record and publish these videos - thank you for efforts, really like your channel!

this guy seems to be an arrogant dick head. And stay out of Italy if you don't like the rules stronzo!
Заход очень красивый. Супер.

great vid! next time in 1080p plz
Great video(s). At of curiosty - where do you get the A5 Spiral Bound folder for the checklist you use? Looked everywhere!
Amazing video as usual and very informative! I was wondering, do you get to choose what SID you fly or does atc assign that? Do you file that also?
The SID is assigned by ATC, but at regional airports you can normally figure it out in advance. For a given runway in use and a given exit point, there is only one SID. At larger airports there can be several SIDs for the same RWY/waypoint combination.
Nice flight. This AC is one of my favorite in FSX but very slow. What is the distance of your trip and how long did it take your to make it?
Hi Jaunty, I see a lot of shots through the windscreen looking foreword. Have you put the camera on the dash or is the zoom foreward done in the editing software? Nice views.
13:27 Dessault Falcon 7X
Fantastic as always Jaunty! I was curious how the D42 handles chop and wind sheer. Better or worse then other craft you have flown?
+GobsDeaDove The DA42 is very stable, having a wing loading (23.9) closer to a DC-3 than a C152. You notice this in its high demonstrated cross-wind of 25 kts, which is evident in practice. Just a quick question: Do you do business flights? Or why do you have these trips throughout Europe that often? Like EEDN to LSZA?
please more cockpit view! !!
thank you
Sound motors must have
Quick question, does when switching on the Deice pump switch 1 and 2, do you actually hear the sound of a pump being turned on? Thanks for all these videos I really enjoy them.
Yes, if you are on the ground with the engines idling and no headphones on, then you can hear the pumps. In the air, not so much.
that would have been a challenge in bad wx!!!!!
Very nice flight. Did you notice any extra turbulence flying over the high Alps?
No, as I remember it was pretty calm.
nice.. i notice when you turn on AP button you hit flc button and hdg change button to go to the flt plan course and altitude most times in your vids
you can also just hit the red AP button after you have pitched to 90 knots and point towards the flt plan course.. that will hold pitch n roll till it captures the nav heading and altitude selected

the red button by your left thumb lol
that should turn on pitch and roll auto pilot ''hold'' mode,, which holds the plane at whatever it is doing at that moment
so if you have the plane already pitch to 90 knots,, it will hold that till the selected altitude is captured

Are you referring to Control Wheel Steering?
I guess it is more like a LOC/DME at LSZA rather then a VOR/DME. Cheers
Just a question, it seems to be you start up your enginge without start up clearance??
Yeah, that's right. I explained about that in reply to the same question on another vid. Keep plowing through them and you'll find it.
+jaunty17 have you used the older generations? would you know if there is a big difference. Its interesting to see from the operator's point of view.
+Gael Mebiame I schooled on the TDI models. The power difference is very noticeable at TO and climb. Cruise speed at altitude is 175 KTAS. It will maintain altitude at service ceiling (18,000') with one engine inop. Quite a difference.
+jaunty17 Wow thats very impressive. And here I thought the TDI were already efficient. Thanks for the replies happy landings sir! :)
What kneeboard do you use?
What type of plane is that? thank. great video. keep it up
Diamond DA42-VI with Garmin G1000 and integrated GFC700 autopilot.
hi, quick question: at what alt did u cross the alps? still at fl100? i think i read somewhere that u need more clearance when flying above high mountains?
Hi Valerio, no I ascended to 150 or 160 over the Alps. I think the MEA on that route is 140.
thanks!
can u tell me what you were typing on the tablet and what is that white paper?
The tablet has the considerable amount of information necessary to fly according to instrument flight rules. The white paper is a flight log and where I write down the frequencies, waypoints, etc., ATC gives me over the radio.
hello sr, I would like to ask a question, is this a good airplane to open a air taxi business?? thanks so much I really enjoy your videos
It depends on what distances you need to cover, and what altitudes you intend to fly at. How much does it cost to keep the navigation and charts database up to date on the G1000 ?
+Richard Perez Araujo It depends on what coverage you choose. There are lots of alternatives. You can look at fly.garmin.com and read up.
What bugs is Italy concerned about?..ide wanna know if my plane was a carrier
Jaxx Brat Zika. No Zika in Germany. It was an absurd overreaction by the Italian authorities.
+jaunty17 Which App do you use for flights ?
Jeppesen mobile flight deck for IFR charts & plates, Rocketroute for planning/filing, AeroWeather for TAF/METAR, AirNav pro for VFR charts & GPS ownship. Have tried JeppFD VFR for charts/plates on the continent; worked fine, but is pretty expensive.
Thanks :)
Im sure that's very expensive to fly with Professional Apps , but it makes much things easier I guess . Doesn't it ?

I'm right with: you need PPL(a) + MEP + IRF? For that?
Yes. But it’s “IR” (Instrument Rating), which you need to fly under “IFR” (Instrument Flight Rules), which is required in “IMC” (Instrument Meteorological Conditions).

Great Video
Beautiful aircraft
But there is a little typing error in the titel, EDDN is Nürnberg (Nuernberg).
Yeah, but in English it's "Nuremberg". Just like München is Munich.
+jaunty17 sorry my mistake
What a pitty that you dont overlay your approache charts with your aircraft position.
Which app is this?
I guess you are referring to Jeppesen Flight Deck on the iPad, that shows the planned route. It also has all the arrival, approach and AD plates (requiring subscription).
Very seldom approach on rwy 19.....
