Hi Brian, nice post on the struggles of finding Japanese whisky here in Japan, I consider myself quite lucky that the shop near me in Hiroshima has some pretty rare finds. Regarding what you can find here for Scotch, it is absolutely amazing, I try to stop by Tanakaya near Mejiro station in Tokyo every couple of months as you never know what you are going to find.

I got lucky when I moved to Tokyo and found the best whiskey store I have ever visited and it’s a five minute walk from my house. In Japanese bottles alone there are a couple dozen to choose from plus other whiskey’s from around the world with even more to choose. I wasn’t into whiskey when I moved here but a bottle of Nikka changed my perspective. Whenever I walk through Tokyo I always pop into a liquor store to look at the inventory and it didn’t dawn on me until after a couple years that no one had an inventory like my neighborhood store. I’m dumbfounded at Japanese whiskey prices outside of Japan when I see prices here in Tokyo in person. Almost makes me want to start an export whiskey business! Cheers.

You might want to try Hasegawa Liquor in the 2nd basement of Tokyo Station. The do a sampling programme so for 200/300 yen you can sample a wide range of whiskies up to 32-year-old whiskies, from all over the world.

Hi Brian, have you tried any Kuju whisky? New distillery from Kyushu

The weakening of the Japanese yen against the pound has finally caused the price of imported whisky to increase. As example, a 70cl bottle of Johnnie Walker Black has gone from 2,000 to 3,000 yen. So I
I was thinking of switching to Japanese whisky to support the local economy and save myself a bit of money. But unfortunately it seems that the local product has increased in parallel with imported Scotch whisky.

nice video. but can i kindly ask you change the flag in the intro
the japanese rising sun flag is considered by most asian countries as offensive as it is associated with their wartime atrocities. it is comparable to the nazi swastika flag. i am sure you didn't mean it on purpose but if you could remove it, it would be greatly appreciated
