In this interview, Arshan caught up with JELEEL! during KTO’s most recent trip to NYC. Originally from Rhode Island, JELEEL! began his music career in 2017 while attending university. He moved to LA, refined his sound, and in 2018, released the standout song “WARTIME!”. After dropping “Sweetspot!” in 2019, JELEEL! released his debut project, Angel from Heaven. In 2021, JELEEL! released “DIVE IN!” which went viral & now has over 70 million plays on Spotify alone. His most recent single, “SHOTS!” featuring Denzel Curry, dropped in November 2022.
During their conversation, JELEEL! discusses why he’s so kindhearted, rappers acting tough, dealing w/ big egos, & moving to LA. He explains how ripping his shirt created opportunities for him to make money and reveals that he graduated from college. JELEEL! talks about how studying Psychology helped his rap career, dealing w/ homelessness while making music, & how he stayed focused & inspired while in his struggle. He says he’s inspired by artists like Tyler the Creator & Lil Nas X to not give up promoting his music, revealing he’s been promoting “DIVE IN!” for almost 2 years.
JELEEL! then talks about Denzel Curry showing him love, his insane live shows, and doing backflips & stage dives. He says he’s hopeful to one day have a t-shirt sponsor for all the ones he rips, before explaining how he exercises. Arshan & JELEEL! agree that his music would be perfect for FIFA and JELEEL! talks about his versatility as an artist. I went to Cali back in June. I was bumping the hell out his music and introduced some of my friends too it. I randomly bumped into him in LA at an event called Black Market Flea. He was hella chill, and gave great vibes. Told me we’ll meet again. Can’t wait to see you again bro.
