I was sitting there smirking the entire time Simon was reading the Dragon Ball reference. Good one, Kevin. Fact Boi never gets the anime references.
He figured out the first one was fake, but I've got him with the other wo.
Simon clearly wasn't a fan of *Innocuous Oversized Marble Z* 😄
I was going to post something similar... beat me to it lol
I don't get them either but thanks to the editor I still get to laugh at the fact that Simon doesn't.
I was the whole time just saying "It's Dragon Ball"
Simon, I am a 71 year old woman with no children or grandchildren and I recognized the plot of Dragonball. In some stores toy aisles it is impossible to avoid it.
Nice job Chi-Chi.
Haha throwing shade at Simon!
It's also base on a Chinese legend
As a dragonball fan I’m cackling because you’re right 😂
I got distracted by something I was reading, completely missed the one before, and it still registered on me that he was reading the plot of dragonball in all seriousness. I thought I had missed a whole video and was wondering what world I had slipped into that Simon was doing a video on DragonBall.
"How you gonna grant that wish, Shenron? Are you a wizard, SHENRON!?" No, Simon! He's the Eternal Dragon!
Sorry for the audio issues in the outro video. I don't have a tripod and it turns out my phone was very slowly sliding on whatever it was leaning against. I didn't notice until I was editing and didn't have time to rerecord it.
Eh, you learn as you do.
I felt it added to the eerie, dark and dangerous basement atmosphere to be honest. Like rats scratching floorboards or something 🤣
I thought it was one of your compatriots trying to break out of the blazement
Nah, made it creepier. I was thrown off by the lack of an intro video, but thankfully Simon got his shit together before ending it! 💩
My only issue with the sound was I wish it was from both sides of the audio. Listening to one-sided sound through headphones makes me feel all weird. But also, I feel like the voice is clearer now which is great!
Simon reading the Dragonball bit in a completely serious manner and a with a straight face.... that made my day!
I've never watched or read DragonBall and got it lol. Granted, a certain amount of nerd osmosis is always a thing.
Just way over his head.
I still dont even know what a dragon ball is.
My guess is some anime perhaps related to pokemon poke bowls?
@@decodingtheunknown2373 aye, it's an anime thing that basically functions the way Kevin described just in a magical sense.
There's about 3/4 dragon ball series that are mostly about fighting.
I actually thought this might have been real at first and the person was just copying DB IRL for a nice joke.
Also kudos to Kevin for knowing Simon enough to pull the DBZ fast one on him and KNOW he can get away with it hahahahahaha
Can he also do it with Sailor Moon and ATLA?
He should try to use the Star Wars or lord of the rings lore as Simon absolutely detest those
@@ToyJesusLovesTequilla agreed
It was golden
@@alexiswelsh5821 now that you say it, a Sailor Moon or ATLA would be phenomenal 😂 and we all know Simon would have no clue. Although I’m not sure how Kevin could strip the “magic” from either one to make it work
I almost lost it when Simon asked if shenron could bring people back from the dead. Yes Simon but only once until new dragon balls are made by the green man in the floating lookout
I’m not sure I enjoyed this episode at all. Sorry Kevin.
Or you go to the green man's home planet.
The fact that he didn’t know what dragon 🐉 balls are…. Fucker was raised without a childhood
I would have guessed real to. It would be a cool thing to do if you had the money.
I did lose it😆
simon describing dragonball straight faced has made my evening.
Kevin,
You did a superb job in the first story highlighting something i've long seen in Simon. He consistently interprets scripts in the present with little regard for, and less understanding of, the timeframe in which the story occurs. It's part of what we love about Him. He can be maddeningly obtuse at times!
i'm 60 and even i got the DBG reference immediately. Absolutely Brilliant !:-)
Simon can be maddeningly obtuse at times. At other times, he is delightfully obtuse!
As soon as Simon said 7 balls with stars, I knew it was Dragon Ball. Great story to go with it, and Simon fell for it.
Plus the reference to DanceFusion and Shenron. Funny stuff.
Another anime plot from Kevin, first one I actually got myself but Simon (unsurprisingly) didn't
Yeah, totally caught the DB reference. Because I'm a geek :)
As soon as I heard "Shenron", I started laughing 😂
Me, who is not the DBZ flavour of Geek, but /is/ the Geocaching flavour of Geek: "I can see this, but it's the wrong kind of weird for cachers"
VINDICATED!
I love that Kevin filmed the intro in a literal basement. Legend!
Pretty sure thats green screen.
@@DrunkTalk Nope
Thanks! I did it for the first one of these as well. The premise was that if he got any wrong I was going to free Danny
@@ThatWriterKevin do you get better audio quality down there? Otherwise a photo with chroma key could yield a better visual and audio result. A lot of people use this nowadays, thats why I assumed.
@@DrunkTalk I mean, I'm a writer. I dont have all sorts of fancy audio and video tech. The audio isn't necessarily better acoustically, I'm just comfortable speaking louder down there
So, semi-realistic anime didn't trip him up, but outright battle Shonen with aliens and magic and suddenly he think it's gotta be real.
Well done, Kevin. Now that we know he's fallible, make a script of incorporating Star Wars, LotR, Harry Potter, or some other fiction that Simon hasn't seen. Danny and Sam have the list. The look on his face when he says star wars sounds real will be perfect.
He also got fooled by Serial Experiments Lain. SAO is the only one to not fool him so far
@@ThatWriterKevin huh, for some reason I thought he called Lain fake. Maybe I'm mixing it up with the marina trench one.
Still, if you can somehow get Simon to call Lord of The Rings real, I will eat my hat.
I was wondering why there wasn’t an intro by Kevin. That is what makes these so awesome and creepy.
DBZ bit absolutely killed it Kevin. Mad Props Dude.
I was actually thinking the "dragonball" one was a true story and someone was just copying a bit of the show for some fun until I remembered what I was watching and how Kevin always trolls you with the premise from some random anime 😅. That was a good one!
I had the same line of thinking!
Me too, I figured a DBZ fan could have ordered some fake dragonballs from China (complete sets of them, marbles and otherwise, are available through Amazon) and offered a 'wish' as a bit of a troll.
There's bound to be a mystery story or ARG out there inspired by an anime with people using character usernames or something. I expect Kevin might use ones of these to catch Simon out thinking he'll spot an obvious anime reference even HE could find only to find out it was someone deliberately copying names from it for a laugh.
I tried looking it up 😅
So just so we're keeping track...Kevin mopped the floor with Simon 🤣
As long as there are no followup questions about how the other episodes went, absolutely.
3/5 for me.
However, we all know that the Internet's true deepest mystery is why isn't there a biographics episode on the fascinating life of Danny Salter yet? 🤣
The Dragon Ball reference made me laugh. He even had the username Shenron!
Just wanna say I appreciate Kevin (or whoever edits Kevin's audio if it's not him) for tweaking the voice deepener so it's easier to understand!
I do edit my own video with free software and very poorly.
@@ThatWriterKevin I also think you tweaked it just right this time around 👍
@@2lefThumbs Thanks! The tweaking is the same, but I feel comfortable speaking louder in the basement so the volume as better
@@ThatWriterKevin haha, it's all about getting comfortable👍👍
Bro the moment he said they found a 2 star yellow marble I was rolling bc i knew Simon wouldnt get it. So awesome

Thanks man! Totally needed this, after the whole intro debacle 🤦🏻♀️😂
Intro after 30 minutes lol
I do enjoy the fact that Kevin had to google “how to be a serial killer”. Probably on a list now
I have googled MUCH worse
I feel like Kevin was put on a list a long time ago. Great content creator, tho!
@@ariadnepyanfar1048 Thanks!
The funny part was I knew the Dragonball reference but I still figured it was true just because yeah, this is the type of meme-worthy stuff a bored used would do. If anything, in this case, the anime connection makes it seem more believable: I'm sure there is some variation of a true version of this story out there. Probably lots.
I love that Simon accidentally stumbles upon the driving force behind the majority of Dragon Ball arcs: gotta find those balls and bring back someone(s) from the dead lol
Rex Feral made me laugh. You're not alone, Kevin.
Kevin just needs to do a trick script of nothing but anime references and the basement collective will finally be free!
I've thought about this, but I feel like the viewers want at some real mysteries
@@ThatWriterKevin ah of course this is very true! Either way I for one love this competition you have going with Simon! I dropped through the floor when you got him with the DB story Danny should be set free for that alone
I didn't get a notification for this episode for some weird reason, despite normally getting a notification for every decoding the unkown episode. Not sure why that is, but glad I check the channel almost every day just in case!
Simon reading about DBZ, up to and including the same first wish as the show, and still not getting where it comes from is just classic Simon, lol, I love it though
Tbh I was surprised when Simon immediately starts the game, I was wondering if Kevin skip making an intro video. Turned out our FactBoi forgot about it 😂 And ofc Jen did a great job with the editing to explain it
REQUEST or SUGGESTION for an episode: Could you cover the 1974 case of Doris Bither, a woman who claimed to have been repeatedly sexually assaulted by an invisible entity, and who was observed by doctoral students at the University of California, Los Angeles? This case was written about in a book and made into a movie both of which were titled "The Entity". Thanks if you ever do cover it.
As someone who has never watched Dragon Ball but has watched enough Gintama to get it, I was cackling like a fool. This made for an excellent watch while recovering after day 3 of a convention!
My Shenron plushy was very much a fan of that story. Thank you simon, Kevin and Jen.
Stile Project was a collection of oddball links back in the day, "stile" being a kind of bridge connecting pastures that human beings could use but cattle could not. This would have been pre-google, or pre-pretty much any web search engine, where the best way to explore niche interests online was to find relevant collections of links. That was pretty much the whole point of Yahoo back in the day, although unlike sites like Stile Project it aspired to be comprehensive. (This became impractical far more quickly than Yahoo's founders anticipated.)
Remind me to tell you all about webrings someday.
This game format of Decoding the Unknown is a lot of fun. :D
Loving it !
Simon's new channel: Writers Against Factboi! XD
thanks!
I actually got the "How to be a Serial Killer" one right because I actually remember seeing that website. Damn. You could tell right away that it was someone being creative but I totally forgot about the movie.
4/5 for me...... fantastic Kevin, I too laughed my ass off on the dragon ball z reference
This is some of the best content you do Simon, and I am nearing the feat of watching every video on every channel.
Yes, me too ☝🏻
Good grief, you deserve an endurance medal.
Oh poor Simon completely missed the DBZ one - we howled - Shenron gave it away for us
And he yelled the name so many times! I'm surprised he didn't find the name DanceFusion to be a little weird for a geocaching site
I'm super happy you let Kevin make the next entry to these. Was hoping the poor performance of the last one didn't end the series.
And before I watch this one, I wonder which anime plot Kevin will try to finesse Simon with lmao
These are my fav DtU episodes!!
Thanks!
after the last installment, I might would have suggested reintroducing the "and which one was written by ____?" element to further distract Simon, but Kevin got there in the end
Me over here like “4chan killer is fake because /b/ has no mods” and then remembering halfway through that that was just a meme making fun of how bad the mods were 😂😂😂
I love these - thanks for continuing to make them.
I am quite proud I knew the geocache one was fake - not because I know anything about Dragonball, but because it seemed too similar to other ‘treasure’ mysteries and was somehow too clean or simple. It was well done, though.
Thanks!
I've never even seen Dragonball and I knew Kevin was trolling lol
I am both smug and amazed that I'm somehow at 100% for these - either I'm just brilliant or I've spent too much time on the internet
(Definitely the latter)
Back when actual film was a thing, I took classes at the local community center in developing and printing (mid 80s). I knew people with small home dark rooms as a hobby. You could fit one in a closet or bathroom. Unusual maybe, but not hard or even that expensive back then.
i still know people with home dark rooms! :)
The sheer pop-culture osmosis made the dragon ball reference weirdly obvious to me, despite me not even having the attention span for anime (I’m more of a gaming-and-books kinda person in that regard)
I wish I would come upon a Box of Crazy (or an Apartment of Crazy)! That sounds awesome and fascinating!
I've been waiting for the next one of these. These are always a good time.
I remember the serialkiller-thead on 4chan. That was intense
And they really never found out if it was a troll or not?
As a long time fan of all of fact boi's channels... Is this the first time the depths of "creative bankruptcy" have been plunged to a fourth in a series? Love it! Pt. 5 incoming. Kevin for the win.
I came for the dragon balls
That was intriguing to me as well 😂
Understood. Dangerous
That's why I always castrate the males while they're still young.
Dragons balls are nice
Same, I used to have the same set 😅
🤣 I love how he trolls Simon with anime!
You should do the death of Meriwether Lewis. And the possible myth that his dog refused to leave his grave after. About as mysterious as Edgar Allan Poe but less talked about
Yes, I would love one on Meriwether Lewis’s death.
simon: …stile project
me: argh oh my god …
simon: i don’t know what the stile project is …
me: oh you precious, fortunate, young man …
Listened to this episode in the car, and when the outro clip came up I could have swore there was a mouse running through the air ducts. You may want to set some traps in your basement, Kevin.
Love these so much. They remind me a lot of Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction? Since you have so few channels you should consider making a new channel with just these type of videos.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Simon throwing SERIOUS shade this episode and I am here for it as an American
I love these episodes, and I personally did a lot better this time! (all correct except I kinda went with Simon on the first one, even though i was very unsure)
I also did have a good laugh at Simon not getting the DBZ reference too!
Keep up with the good work Kevin!
Kevin, for the next one, you should pick a random episode from some show Simon has said he’s seen and see if you can twist it enough to fool him. Can’t be the Scottish candle ghost from Star Trek though.
9:35 Simon realizing there may be a smart murderer nearby.
These are so much fun, I’m happy to see another one up after getting home from work
Have to respect the "Alegendly" mug, brilliant.
Casual Criminalist joke was brilliant.
International intrigue, Anime, and a Florida Man.
Well done, Kevin 👍
PS, get a small tripod for your phone and maybe a plug-in lapel mic 🙂
9:35 Simon being worried about getting sued by criminals who'd first have to admit to being criminals.
Nah, they'd sue him for defamation just out of being petty bastards. Allegedlies be damned. Simon would get off but have a serious financial hit and be bound up for months or years.
I love this series so much please never stop
Awww, I miss the Saw-esque intro and outro videa from Kevin / Danny, that was one of the things that made this series waaay funnier. xD
Edit: DAMMIT XD
I just want to point out how overly qualified simon is for many different jobs but instead he is here with us so i want to say thank you simon i realize you could be working or doing many other things i know your value! 😊
The greatest mystery is how Simon could forget about Kevin's intro video...
I've also never seen the dragonball anime so it took me until the wish part to realize what was going on
What's funny is I know the crystal ball one was a DBZ reference but I thought the person behind it was making a Dragonball reference.
Simon getting trciked by Dragonball is just *chef's kiss*
I couldnt imagine a nation state getting upset by a simple Simon video, nothing in Brain Blaze history would ever give the impression that Simon would say anything to mock a world leader.
You tell stories like a master my friend. Very calm and pleasing voice to listen to as well. So glad to be able to enjoy your content
His real voice, like in this video, is quite good. But when when he puts on that awful newsreader style affectation of a voice on some of his other channels, you know that fake, super posh one, it's just infuriating.
Love it. Keep going with anime baits.
There there, Kevin. I liked the third installment just fine. Factboi's to blame for its less-than-stellar performance. I mean, he just used the word "irregardless", for godsakes.
Edit: That was really fun! I don't know a damn thing about Dragonball either, Simon, so I was with you all the way, my man.
Great job, Kevin*! Keep 'em coming. These are great.
Cheers, gang. ✌️
* -- Wrote 'Danny' the first time.
I hate that word so much, and the reason is that episode of ammerican dad.
It's CZcams's fault. The third one was age-gated which severely hurts viewership
You should edit Your edit. 🙏
@@ThatWriterKevin Hmm, interesting. Because of sensitive subject matter, I assume? I'm trying to remember the stories from that one . . . 🤔
Edit: HOLY SHIT, I hadn't even noticed your name and profile picture! Hiya, Kevin!
@@MikeP2055 lol hi!
I really like these so please make more!
As long as it gets the views we will!
Simon has a monopoly on my entertainment on youtube
Good to see simon having fun with it, god knows we all need a break from the depths of depravity that casual criminalist displays to us. I very much enjoyed the tangents here too. Another good one Kevin.
Thanks!
Speaking of casual criminalist, I hope you do an episode about the guy they are investigating now who's daughter Came out a couple days ago and said that he killed something like 70 women between like the late sixties to the nineties. And I think Des Moines Iowa
.....why did Simon make us all wait with him while he downloaded that video??
...... Simon isn't the editor ;)
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for making them.
Love your show... all of them. I let them play back to back whilst getting ready for the day and the collaboration between the writers and yourself is hilarious. Thanks for the great content.
I could hear the whoosh from here when The dragon ball z joke went clean over Simons head
Of all the potential anime plots in existence that might fool Simon, the first was a Dragon Ball Z story about Shenron and star balls. That's honestly kind of amazing. Simon must have ben avoiding anime out of sheer spite as a kid not to click on to that one. 🤣
It actually wasn't the first, to my surprise! This was written before the second one came out, but I mistakenly assumed he would have gotten it right. I also fooled him with Serial Experiments Lain
Simon, you and the crew do excellent work and I just love the way you feel so at home while relaying all of this information on your channels! Lol! 😁 I - as a Star Trek fan - wanna point out that the banners that pop up for "Number(s) One, Two", etc. are punctuated by a particular sound. Notably, the Romulan internal communication "beepy" sound from "The Enterprise Incident"(TOS)! Wow! 😮😃 You & your crew never cease to amaze me! Keep up the awesome work. Be safe & healthy! Peace & Long Life! 🖖😎
Even as someone who was just a little too old to be interested in DBZ I loved the reference (sold the toys at BK back in the day)
More please! Maybe even bring in more writers who are..... ready to Play a game
14:35 Simon mentioning "Probably not making him any money" is amusing to me since...I mean, in the early internet no one was thinking about making money, at least on the non-commercial side. There wasn't google adsense or anything, so it wasn't trivial to monetize. We just liked making websites on geocities and shit.
The sound at the end was later discovered to be one of the suspects moving a tripod around the room to get a better angle...
The sound at the end was because I don't have a tripod. My phone was very slowly sliding down whatever I had it propped up against
Epic as always. Lol. I guess Danny is just plain stuck.
"Irregardless" Big brain, Simon ;)
Gotta say these ones are by far the best DtU episodes, the ones where Simon is immediately put off by and dismissive of the topic are such a drag. I don't believe in crazy fantasy stuff, but I believe it would go a long way to make the channel more popular if Simon just played along and *_B L A Z E D_* the living f*ck out of those scripts.
The Dragon Ball story sounds like something that would be awesome to actually pull off, ngl, but is such an obvious anime reference (which we all know no matter how popular, Simon will never get). Can't believe Simon didn't remember it was BTK that was caught by the floppy and 4chan has actually had it's share of actual killers posting evidence (and even getting caught for it). And the boxes of crazy are mega wild I loved reading all about them back in the day. Thanks for the hard work Kevin and Jen (and Simon ofc)
I see dragon balls I click. Although I guess if I see Simon I also click but still 🐉 🏀 give me the feeling of a casual blaze in my heart that I can’t seem to decode but who knows maybe someday there will be a mega project to highlight the geographics of this unknown feeling although it’d probably be a side project. If I play my cards right I may just get a biographics 🤷
Love these! Genuinely fantastic scrips Kevin, you are rightfully so joint leader of the Blazement with Danny 👌👍
Are Jen and Katy tucked away safely in the attic with Callum?
Thanks!
@@ThatWriterKevin u gotta fuck with him and just make all true or all false haha. Or make them all true but change the plot so it is technically false. YOU CAN DO IT. YOU *WILL* WIN!!!
@@ThatWriterKevin please read about Michigan March 8 1994 & make a script for Simon. Jack Bushong seams like a smart & credible witness so I think Simon will be intrigued despite being a skeptic.
@@michaelmayhem350 I'll take a look!
Thank you very much for producing brilliant quality content for us awful internet nerds.
After a little reworking with the "unsolved" option I had no. 1 wrong and the 4 remaining correct! Wow, new record for me!
Love listening to these at work. Thanks
You're welcome
Simon setting up his defence: I thought it was an edgy idea…
Sometimes I wonder if Simon himself isn't trapped in a basement. I've never watched DBZ in my life & even I caught that one. It's kinda like how I've never listened to Taylor Swift but I can still point her out. Some stuff is just unavoidable on the interwebs.
(unless you're Simon, apparently)
These are so much fun- please keep them going periodically ❤
