    Your voice is so calm and blood-pressure-lowering. I can’t tell if you’re just naturally super-chill and laid-back, or just high 😂

    I wish they still made the newer macbooks this way. You're paying top dollar for professional equipment, you should be able to repair and maintain your investment

    *WARNING* - Please read ALL these tips for this repair, especially beginners (like myself):
    1) At 1:00 don’t be scared of taking out the iSight camera cable. Just hold the cable and pull it out. Don’t use too much force.
    Also, the cable above it (speaker one) is not needed to be pulled out - once the speaker is remove just move the speaker to the right side while the plug is still put in. This will save time.
    2) Don’t be careless - listen to the guy in the video. At 2:35 make sure you 100% move *ALL* cables gently to the *LEFT* side and don’t worry about damaging them (and make sure you don’t move the MacBook in the next steps where the antenna is out, so you don’t rip the cable as it can go under the MacBook and rip while sliding it), even the iSight camera one. This is important because them antenna are the reason you have WiFi.
    So, if you accidentally damage them then your WiFi signal will be poor or won’t even work at all. And the cost is like £70 (£15 for the part, and cost for labour as the job will be harder than this video), or a £20 WiFi adaptor will be needed.
    3) The antenna cables take the piss to put back in, but just use the side of a flat screwdriver and press it against the top of the antenna when plugging it in, and use your finger to push on top of the antenna to connect it.
    4) Confidence. This is an easy laptop to repair for beginners, so don’t shake your fingers or be hesitant removing the parts. Otherwise, you might damage this repair. *Patience* as well. This repair requires patience so don’t be intimidated by adrenaline (the rush/need of doing this repair ASAP to fix it).
    5) Don’t worry if you’re missing some screws. It will be fine as long as you have the majority of the screws - some don’t even need to be screwed back in (like the speaker being screwed in with the WiFi airport thing). But try and fit all the screws back in. Also, using a toothpick to take out the screws (once unscrewed) and placing them back in the holes is very useful once you put the toothpick straight in the middle of the screw.
    I just want to thank the uploaded for making an amazing and helpful video. I needed to do this repair to remove a CD from the CD drive, and I’ve increased my confidence as I have learned a lot from this repair. Thank you uploader.

      I really appreciate your tips. So many precise instructions are missing from this video. I have a question - how, exactly, is the insight cable removed - do I pull it straight up (like the first cable he showed) or do I pull it straight back (like a plug from a wall)? I'm afraid I might pull it the wrong way and break it.

    • @MrIDGAF
      @MrIDGAF Před 4 lety

      Juliet Jones Well with the iSight camera I just used the actual wire (instead of the actual connector) and sort of lifted it and pushed it back slowly then progressively pulling it back with more pressure until it actually disconnects.
      Fitting it back in is easy, as all you do is slide it back in.
      Also, it’s all about being cautious as well as having confidence. Be prepared when doing the repair (like give yourself a day) and don’t attempt the repair while under pressure.

    • @MrIDGAF
      @MrIDGAF Před 4 lety

      Looking at the video again, I basically did what the guy did, but I just pulled on the actual wire and sort of lifted and pulled it back slowly then slowly progressively pulling it back with more pressure until it disconnects. So, it’s kind of like both pulling it up straight and back.
      This repair is actually easy, but the WiFi antennas are 100% the hardest part as it’s hard to take them off imo (but easy to put it back on).

    • @MrIDGAF
      @MrIDGAF Před 4 lety

      Also use a toothpick and push the back the iSight camera back to the connector (when you have slided it in), if you’re having difficulty putting it back in.

      @@GRIBSOFT do you know if depositioning the hard drive causes it to fail once installed again, like during loading and unloading of cd discs? I had that issue with the original MacBook I'm kind of nervous to touch the DVD drive again.
      My real problem is the long bluetooth antenna (of the 4 wifi antennas), I snapped the connector off it and in order to install the new replacement part I ordered I have to remove the DVD drive? it seems to sit right under it I hope you know what part I am referring to and also that I am correct in assuming that is where it's located.

    Replaced superdrive, but it keeps rejecting discs as soon as I put them in. I recently replaced the hard drive, which had crashed, with a 1T SSD. While I was in disc utility I noticed the icon for the superdrive showed up. So I was wondering if there is something I can do to fix this, by erasing and formatting the cd/dvd drive?

    Thanks for the video. However, once I installed the Optical Drive it will not accept CDs. The only way it will accept CDs is if I insert a CD upon start up or if I manually type in drutil tray eject in my Terminal and then I can insert a CD. It is as if the Optical Drive is in deep sleep mode unless I type in a command. Does anyone have a solution to this? I am running on Mac OS Catalina and I have a mid 2012 Macbook Pro 13 inch.

    How do I get a stuck disk out? I’ve tried restarting my MacBook and holding the track pad down, I’ve tried holding the eject button down while restarting. It’s stuck and won’t stop making this repetitive noise while it’s trying to eject the disk. Any ideas

      Best way is to remove the dvd drive and then remove the disk once the drive is out.

    It is difficult to follow what you are doing because your fingers are in the way. You should zoom in, point to the component, then explain HOW to remove it. You are randomly pulling, unscrewing and grabbing different things like the average viewer knows what you're talking about. It is very easy to damage a part if it is taken out incorrectly so that needs to be explained. I wasn't sure if I'm supposed to pull straight up, push then pull, pull to the right then up, unscrew...that should not be left to chance!
