The whole game looks digustingly ugly actually. There is something very wrong with the color palette and pop-in. JC2 looked amazing for its time and it seems they regressed instead of progressed.

I couldn't get into JC2, loved JC3 and it ran perfectly averaging 80 fps at mostly highest settings (1440p/GTX 1070). I don't understand the complaints about the controls either, they worked great. The DLC made it an even better game. Also, i want more wingsuit challenges!
I connect to this SO much! Loved JC2, but I almost felt guilty that I didn't enjoy JC3 much at all.
JC is something you play for pure fun and entertainment. Roaming around with amazing physics and destruction, doing whatever you want. It's not the storytelling or graphics, it's something you do for the fun in the "now", -right there and then.
I will buy this game as I truly enjoyed all the other JC games, and perhaps especially JC3. Only thing that will get me away from RDR2.

@@ComicsLamar I know that. In fact what I said has nothing to do with it being tropical blue or not at all. It looks flat and reminiscent of Morrowind style water where it's a flat plane with low detail textures moving back and forth across it.

Fantastic review as always, I was wondering how do the land vehicles handle? Specifically the cars. I remember the driving in JC2-3 felt way too lawnmower like and arcade. I was hoping they would have pushed the driving more towards a more Mad Max feeling. Cheers

EDIT. For now with the console issues we seem to see. I would say its a wait on the console until they patch some of those stupid issues. PC there is some fixes for a couple issues folks ran into that i didn't so a heads up on that and I am looking into them.

Hi Karak, Have you ever thought of adding an extra section to your reviews where you discuss questions raised from your viewers? For example, with the Just Cause series, I know quite a lot of people were disappointing with the vehicle handling in JC3, and I'm sure people looking to buy games that continue a series might also have worries/want things confirmed. Perhaps you could do this via Poll or similar? Just a thought!

Though the toaster knows its job and for the most part does it well, there is an issue with pop up; and then there's the crumbs! Man those crumbs can really slow this thing down.
Thanks for the solid review. Played quite a bit of JC3 so I was looking forward to this. Good to know the core has been improved upon. Really all I was looking for was expansion of what was already good about the series and maybe do away with the bad points from 3. Since I didn't hear you mention any issues with the forced online connectivity...it sounds like maybe the either smoothed it out or made it a non-issue. Or perhaps we won't see until the public gets it. We shall see. Definitely looks like a buy to me but I may wait for the first two weeks to pass just to be sure. I know it'll be fun but I'm starting to take a wait and see attitude even with the games I know I'm going to love.

Everyone that complains about these games always play in the least imaginative and boring play style. It's frustrating to see people ignore the hundreds and hundreds of combinations of weapons and vehicles and grapple mods, and then say it's repetitive.
Right? The whole point of this game is to use your imagination and do absolutely batshit insane things, yet for some reason almost everyone forgets that

I don't agree, I played Just cause 3 extensively and it's DLC's as well as previous titles. While you do have the freedom to make amazing events (I think I played with the bridges alone in JC3 for 100 hours) it certainly gets repetitive in a lot of ways, there is still a limit in what you can do and what things you can do stuff to, especially in the way the game responds to things you do. 80% of the game is based on player creativity, and that's great, but the game itself is very shallow, that's fine for a time, as most of the game is up to you but the shallowness still lingers, especially in the late game.
well not everyone has the imagination to play in various ways. look at stuff like DayZ (both the arma mod and standalone). how many people bought them because of the hype and how they were portrayed by their favorite streamers and youtubers? pretty sure, really damn a lot. news flash, not everyone has the creativity and friends to play like lets say SovietWomble and his friends. not to mention those are mostly highlight reels. for your average player those games are will have even less of those highlights.

Because it is quite impressive. And fun y sometimes.
I've always loved just cause because it knows what it is and does it well. Many games try to stray too far to stay fresh and don't do well. Just Cause only focuses on amping up what it does best and what it knows it's fans love.
Was really disappointed that they never released an official soundtrack album for Just Cause 3. That soundtrack is epic.

How do you convert that audio and maintain such strong stereoscope on youtube. It was pretty amazing to be able to clearly tell with my headphones which direction the sound was coming from. I don't get that very often.

Having sponsors (you know, so he can _eat_ ) is not the same thing as filling your content with sponsored bullcrap. The difference being, he doesn't stop mid-review to extoll the virtues of Squarespace or some shit.
If a video is sponsored (which is not the same as YT ads) it is explicitly mentioned at the beginning and in the title. But most of them are not. And I also do believe he buys the games he gets review codes for (even though that isn't necessary for a honest review, but at least it shows some integrity).

I only wanted it to be like in Mad Max...Did they make it like that or is it just like in JC3 but improved? I really hated car physics in JC3, too scripted and not fun to drive at all.
Hey, love your reviews. However I think the font at the end isn't very readable and it would look a lot better if the pro and cons headers were bold and bigger.
I only watch ACG videos after I've played the games (to avoid spoilers), and I wholeheartedly agree with this review.
I guess it's fair to say we expected more of the same but prayed for it to run better - so, in that regard, it's done what it needed to do.

Is there a system in place like there was in JC3, where you had to destroy certain stuff in an area to "liberate" it? Or have they cut that out? I haven't seen anything like that from anyone's gameplay. I really liked just going to a base and blowing shit up and getting a reward for doing so.

I have been playing all night and I have had a blast. But I agree with everything you said. I played it on my Xbox X and it runs so much better than the last game did. Not major FPS drops and the FPS seems a lot better overall too. It is just a blast and you get addicted to blowing thing up and doing the craziest stunts.

On PS4 Pro what settings do you use for the hdr and gamma in game. The whites are weird in the game and way too bright. The cutscenes also are weird and I notice like a ghost aura around the characters.

How do you unlock gears/mods to your skills, weapons, vehicles, etc.?
In JC3 you had to do those annoying (time) trials that I hated for the most part.
In JC2 those were optional, in JC3 you had to do them, perfectly even, to unlock all the toys.

If even that doesn't help, I suggest you stick to hidden object games or something else that matches your competence level.

Thanks for another great review. I love your crazy descriptions of gameplay mechanics or other game elements. Some pretty funny ones this time. That said, my interest in JC4 just went way up. I never got around to JC3, but this looks pretty great. Honestly, one of the most exciting features to me that I noticed was the glowing arrows in the world when on a mission. I love games that do this, and don’t make you rely on a tiny mini-map. Great for low vision accessibility.
I miss the tessellated water from JC3 :(

Still would like a cool cover system and some dodge abilities to change the pace of the action every once and awhile. CLose quarters to explosive quarters. If GTA had this destruction... it wouldn't need the gritty immersion... but I want both damnit! I want options! Immersive options noit tacked on options.

I hated doing the minigames in 3 because it took forever to load, and I hated driving because a laferrari controlled like an old corvair with bald tires and a broken frame
Why the hate for Just Cause 3? I had a ... ahem... blast with it. I mean, the hero enters the world riding on top of a plane rocket launchering shit. Then, you ride a nuke el macho style as it flies off! Yes please. And if JC 4 has more of the same stupidly OTT moments and gameplay... bring it on! Tks Karak for moving this into my buy column. And now I want a cow launcher... exploding rocket propelled cows... on fire...
Because compared to JC2 it was a huge step backwards for the series. I played 2: it had a huge open world with many different varying locations, such as a city with skyscrapers; a floating brothel a mile up into the sky; frozen mountains; a faraway island full of Japanese WW2 soldiers (that still think WW2 isn't over); etc, etc; very diverse missions unlike JC3, *stealth,* silly humor, over the top missions (even more than JC3), it never took itself seriously, and so on.
I can't describe enough in a comment how bland JC3 felt compared to JC2 (and that's not mentioning the performance issues at launch). The only major improvements that stand out are the grapple that can be manually retracted, that you can attach it to helicopters, and the wingsuit.
If you've played 2, you might know.
Completely agree with the comment above. 3 was so bland and disappointing compared to the variety that 2 offered. Also not to mention 3 ran terribly both on consoles and PC.
You can't sell a game on "Hey look at this dumb shit!" it needs more substance, and challenge. The best parts of Just Cause 3 was the story missions, but you had to go through repetitive, long grinding of easy bases to get to the meat and potatoes of it.

I have one problem with the Just Cause franchise, I'm colourblind and I can't see the red things you have to destroy in missions so I've never been able to progress past early stages
Here you don't need to destroy red stuff in missions, and if you do it's also marked on UI). At least not in the missions I've played.
