In the 1980s and 90s Dunfermline was so lively and bustling, lots of shops and businesses. The town centre now mainly has hairdressers, takeaways, and derelict buildings. It’s such a beautiful place and has great amenities, but is going to rack and ruin, everything has shut down. The council tries its best to deter businesses, my family owned a shop in Dunfermline since 1980 and the business rates went up so much we had to close down.

Late summer in Scotland. Just as I remember it. Grey and dreary. Was back over there at Christmas. Dunfermline town centre is a sad shadow of its former glory. Some beautiful buildings like the Abbey but it’s a sad place now full of sad people ‘doing it tough’.

Don't let the incoming storm fool you. This was an otherwise bright and hot day

It's not all sad. There's good and bad everywhere. It's a lovely place to live x

@@alibali193 unfortunately I saw more bad than good over the 6 months I was back in 2022/23. Cost of living pressures, people choosing to heat or eat, a government that seems to hate its people, businesses decimated by Covid and the crap weather to top it all off. I traveled the length and breadth of the UK on my last visit and Dunfermline where I grew up is a just one of many deeply depressed towns.

@jhamilton7373 not depressing at all. I live and work in the town. It's the people that make it. It is also the perfect location for commuting to Edinburgh. I could not imagine living elsewhere. We have a very reasonable lifestyle.
