What is Advaita Vedanta all about? Why is it regarded as one of the finest philosophies to come out of Hinduism? Let's learn in this short about Advaita Vedanta.
That's why my favourite song once sang like - ❤❤❤ Sabse pahle hai pyaar Main aur tum donon toh ek hai Uske baad ayi ashayein Tum to tum ho Main to main hoon Aakhir mein hum dono soche Ki tum kaun ho Aur main kaun hoon
There are 5 vedanta philosophy: 1) Advaita Vedanta: Founded by Adi Shankaracharya, it emphasizes the non-dualistic nature of reality, asserting that the individual soul (Atman) is ultimately identical to the supreme soul (Brahman). 2) Dvaita Vedanta: Founded by Madhvacharya, it posits a dualistic relationship between the individual soul and the supreme soul, maintaining that they are eternally distinct entities. 3) Vishishtadvaita Vedanta: Propounded by Ramanujacharya, it advocates for qualified non-dualism, suggesting that while the individual soul is part of the supreme soul, it retains its individuality and unique qualities. 4) Dvaitadvaita Vedanta: Developed by Nimbarka, it synthesizes elements of both dualism and non-dualism, proposing that the individual soul is simultaneously one with and distinct from the supreme soul. 5) Shuddhadvaita Vedanta: Established by Vallabhacharya, it promotes pure non-dualism, asserting that the individual soul is not different from the supreme soul but is dependent on it.
Advaita Vedanta was formulated by Ashtavakra and Yajnavalkya who formulated the word Advaita too since the time of Ramayana. Adi Shankaracharya only took the philosophy forward. Rest of the philosophies came much later ~1/2k years only.
Note Advaita was propounded by Sankara . Their are many more Advaitins before him. Advaita is really old, like rishis like Yajnavalkya, Audolomi, Badarayana, were there before him.

How do you know that the individual soul never merges into supersoul? Your logical argument please... Advaita Vedanta gave me a beautiful argument in the form of Drig-Drishya Vivegam. I would like to hear your logical argument as well...
@@arahul4045 In the transactional world, one's soul although part and parcel of supreme conciousness, cannot merge into Brahman. Individual conciousness is the fruit of the same tree Brahman, therefore, it bears the same qualities of the tree; but that does not mean it is the tree. One can think of it as reflection of the Brahman, but it is not the same as Brahman. It can never become Brahman itself while person is alive. After a qualified death it can remain as unborn (free from every little desire) but cannot become Brahman.
@@bitanchakraborty4339 I can understand your conclusion, but your premise and the whole logical argument is missing. Please tell me why can't a soul be the same as the Brahman (or rather Brahman express itself as many different apparently individual souls)? Also, your argument of me being able to control the universe if I am Brahman, sorry to say, is illogical (or at least comes from a misguided view on Advaita...) I as Brahman will never be controlling the things happening in world directly. The Brahman itself (even if I am it) won't be controlling this apparent world directly, because it is forever witness. It doesn't indulge in anything. Indulgence itself arises in it, or rather this world, this body, this mind, this ego, everything around, and the indulgence itself, are nothing but a seeming in Brahman. They are like waves on an infinitely vast ocean of consciousness called Brahman. When seen from that perspective, it completely makes sense as to why a jiva cannot control the universe. And to add to that... Your conclusion also comes from a complete negligence of the point that you are still identifying yourself with the body-mind complex. To say that one's Soul/Self should be able to control the universe if they are Brahman is completely ignoring the aspect of Sat Chit and Anand aspect of the Soul. The soul is ever pure, and will only witness this apparent world. The Jiva thinks that the Jiva is the doer and the enjoyer of the deeds, but the Jiva itself is a part of the apparent world. In reality, there is only the Self/Soul, which never interacts with the illusionary world... This is the conclusion that Advaita leads with the help of logic and questioning like Drig-Drishya Vivegam. Please present your logical counter argument and prove to me that the premise of Advaita is wrong. I'm indeed curious about what you have to say.
He means that there is no 'He' or 'I'. There is only The Creator, expressing Itself as 'He' and 'I', and interacting with Itself through 'He' and 'I'. This ego called 'I' is like a veil. The Jiva/purusha is not anything separate from prakriti.
I can understand that you find this philosophy difficult to understand. Even I did at the beginning. But trust me, give it some time and put a little effort in understanding its logical arguments. You'll be amazed. It is indeed a very logical philosophy. However, that doesn't necessarily make it the 'right' philosophy. But it is indeed a very beautiful and logical philosophy, and it could also be very close to the real truth (who knows)...
Well those thoughts are expressed in the dwaita philosophy, Check out his full video. It is akin to the Bhakti philosophy and Visishta adwaita. Where you are not the divine and aspire through your actions to be in the presence of divine.

There are many faults with the advaita vedanta. You should address other forms of vedanta like dvaita and vishistadvaita that emphasise the most important thing- bhakti
Bhakti is also a big part of Advaita Vedanta 😅 Adi Shankaracharya was a big Bhakta of Shiva and Vishu. Try listening to his Bhaja Govindam or Chidananda Roopah Shivoham songs. Beautiful philosophies mixed with pure devotion, in the form of a poem.
@@abhaskumarsinha3647Advait has been defeated a million times by our SriVaishnav acharyas who promoted VishistAdvait. If you research more you'll see how many times Advait has been refuted
No one said Bhakti is easy. Nothing is easy. However, bhakti is definitely the one which is beginner friendly (As Said by Sri Krishna himself in Bhagavadgita), because bhakti of a higher level where you feel one with the god has the power to cleanse you (as in diminish your ego). Adi Shankaracharya himself was a big Bhakta of Shiva and Vishnu. Try listening to his Bhaja Govindam, or Chidananda Roopah Shivoham songs. Beautiful philosophies mixed with pure devotion, in the form of poems.

@@iconcommunity4816how being athiest is the first step to advaita...literally the largest proponent of advaita vedanta was shankaracharya and he was a hardcore sadhaka..he even installed sri vidya Yantra in all the 4 mathas...even dharma samrat karpatri swami who was considered the greatest vedanti of 20th century and was shankaracharya was a bhakta and did hardcore sadhana...without sadhana..it's just word salad which is done by some neo vedantis in the name of advaita and most of them are even lazy enough.
@@superatanu7 well, why you see neo vedantins just go for jnana kanda, skipping karma kanda, is because Adi Shankaracharya have himself written in tritryopanishad, and being atheist is the first step, fed up with karma kanda... by the way, in the name of culture what have we done to mother earth. Karma kanda is of no use while we live in 6th mass extinction. Don't make a fool out of yourself without inquiry (vichaaraha kartavyaha)
Firstly The statement "me is you and you is me" in Advaita Vedanta does not imply a literal merging of personal identities. It emphasizes the underlying unity of all beings beyond superficial differences. This philosophy does not negate individuality but seeks to transcend egos to realize a deeper interconnectedness. However, asserting that "universe and I aren't separate, we're one" overlooks empirical distinctions between individual entities and the objective universe. While interconnectedness exists, individual identities and the universe maintain distinctiveness. Advaita Vedanta promotes unity in essence, it's not in a literal sense bro
Objective mein to philosophies hain hi nahi apart from charvaka...and advait term itself means non dual that is the entity is one with the god...acc to mandukya upanishad the consciousness of ours is the ultimate reality or param brahman and when we shed the maya or ignorance we become one with the ishwar or brahman..thus tatt twam asi...you are the god...and dualism or dvaitvaad talks about we and ishwar are different...
@@Hokage982 bro I do agree with you but While Charvaka and Advaita emphasize different aspects, Hinduism has diverse philosophical traditions like Nyaya, Vaisheshika, and Samkhya focusing on objectives and metaphysics.and Dualistic schools like Dvaita Vedanta are crucial, rejecting identity with the divine. Actually yk what's important The richness lies in varied interpretations, each offering profound insights into existence, consciousness, and the divine-human relationship. It's upto the interpretation that's it
@@Abhinava2021yes that's what I'm saying That Adi Shankara's distinction of relative and absolute truths indeed echoes Buddhist philosophy, yet Hinduism encompasses diverse viewpoints. While Advaita Vedanta stresses absolute non-duality, denying distinctions, other Hindu schools like Dvaita Vedanta emphasize ontological dualism, asserting fundamental differences between individual souls and the divine. This robust diversity illustrates Hinduism's capacity for multifaceted philosophical exploration. Nd fyi Each school offers distinct insights into the nature of reality and the divine-human relationship, highlighting the complexity and richness of Hindu philosophical thought beyond a singular absolute truth framework. Ill rather say It's just all limited that's it
The Brahman is like a screen (a screen of pure existence, consciousness, and bliss), and the world is like a scene being played on that screen, in a sense the self-luminosity of the screen. The world is apparent but unreal. In Essence there is no scene, there is only the screen. The screen of consciousness is always witnessing the world, but it is still not interacting with it, and thus is a sense it remains 'pure'. The Jiva must realise that the awareness within itself (the reality, and it's real identity) is that of this screen of consciousness itself, and not the scene being played.

The individual living soul never merges into supersoul. So, advaita is nice to comfort ones ego, but dwaita(duality) is the truth.
Nah and also that's a misreading of advatia vedenta
@@miguelatkinson Have you been able to merge into Brahman while alive? As the Brahman, you must have had control over the universe?
@@bitanchakraborty4339 I can understand your conclusion, but your premise and the whole logical argument is missing. Please tell me why can't a soul be the same as the Brahman (or rather Brahman express itself as many different apparently individual souls)?
Also, your argument of me being able to control the universe if I am Brahman, sorry to say, is illogical (or at least comes from a misguided view on Advaita...)
I as Brahman will never be controlling the things happening in world directly.

@@Abhinava2021yes that's what I'm saying
That Adi Shankara's distinction of relative and absolute truths indeed echoes Buddhist philosophy, yet Hinduism encompasses diverse viewpoints. Ill rather say
It's just all limited that's it
There is a better word called "dehin", the one who has a body.
We all are one but having different unreal materialistic bodies, as per Advaita.
The Jiva must realise that the awareness within itself (the reality, and it's real identity) is that of this screen of consciousness itself, and not the scene being played.
you are the god.
so you are my friend :)
