When I was a kid, while watching Maradona playing at his peak, after his retirement, I never imagined seeing a player so different again that breaks all the molds, that is idolized by his own and by rivals and all over the planet. Just 7 years later, a 17-year-old boy named 'Lionel Andrés Messi' appeared in the Under-20 national team and the first thing I asked was, 'Messi? Who? Where does he play?' Remember that he had not even officially debuted in Barcelona yet! He replaced Lavezzi in the second half when Argentina was already winning 4-0. The match was won 8-0 against Paraguay, and this little insolent kid, a daredevil, score a GOLAZO (the 7th of the team) like hundreds of others he would score in Barça later! Today, 15 years have passed, and after seeing EVERYTHING this extraterrestrial did, I don't know if I'll be able to see another football legend like Messi in my life. Since he debuted, I haven't seen ANY player who even come close to this guy's ability, the ease of playing and leaving half a rival team scattered on a tile! I saw countless excellent players in my 42 years of life; Romario, Batistuta, Caniggia, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruggeri, Redondo, Zamorano, Ronaldinho, Valderrama, Aimar, Riquelme and I can continue naming dozens of other football monsters, from South America and from Europe, but NONE of those I saw compare to Messi in that he is so complete and in terms of being at the top for 15 years CONSECUTIVELY!
Let's enjoy him because he doesn't have many more years left, and when he retires, football will once again have a void.

You can say Pele or Ronaldo were better goalscorers, or Maradona was more charismatic, but no other player in history can score the goals he has, over the consistency that he has, and yet is still one of the best in the world in playmaking, again, over the course of the over a decade.

This video shows that the genius of Messi is reading the field, from wherever he is all the way to the goal. Only then are the skills utilized. If he is close to the goal that often results in a solo play.
