Nail on the head and I cant believe nobody talked about it. He was our best player in the final and got taken off. He was the one breaking up the play and winning the ball. Always in the right place. Phillips was out of position far too often and was completely bypassed during Italy's build up play.
@@RETROGAMINGL2G Phillips had a good game against Croatia in first game then was just bare average all the rest, never got Southgates sub decisions and timings and pen picks, very questionable

1:25 .. yes you can tell. this England squad seems like they actually like each other even despite a few players on rival clubs players, they even joke about beating each other in the prem in the england videos on the channel. older England squads back in the so called “golden generation” you could sense animosity between certain players who play for rival clubs, which is why i think we were so crap back then. seems to have gone out the window now. not sure why or how that changed, but im not complaining as it seems to be working for eng... and my club is good 😀
The manager is parts of the reason. Before many were club captains and competed for individual awards with their clubs. Now most of the players are the same in terms of popularity except 2-3 and seem to be more humble.

If you actually watched England you’d know that Croatia aside, Rice was better than Phillips the whole tournament. In the final he was England’s best player (along with Luke Shaw) until he got taken off
