Turning 30... I LOST MY MIND! I cried for days, to the point where a friend came over and just rocked me like a baby. So, I decided that I will be 30 until further notice. I even trained my son to tell people "my mom is 30 again". Now, if I claim my actual number, he gets upset.

In regards to Steve's point about Garrett's B day parties and not wanting him to grow up with a sense of entitlement and wanting him to learn that life is not easy and things don't just get handed to you in the real world like they do at home, I have to agree whole heartedly with him.
Reason being many years ago I was like you Renae, in the respect that I didn't grow up wealthy in the beginning either and now your raising a your child but my situation was a bit different I had to raise my little brother, starting at 15 y/o myself, so needless to say we are 15 yrs. apart. I started working at 16 y/o and was in charge running a household and making sure that after school I picked up my brother from the babysitters, made sure he was feed, etc., cooked dinner for my parents and my 3 other siblings, did household chores, and then bathed my brother put him to sleep and then did homework around 9:30 pm till whatever unGODLY hour. All this repeated everyday of my life for many, many years.
So in the wake of it all as my little brother got older around Garrett's age I would throw him extravagant birthday parties and went all out for him on holidays, etc.
and I found out much later in life that it was the worst thing I could have ever done.
Because I was so young I did not realize that my spoiling him (because we grew up without) was actually harming him and I feel horrible till this day.
As he got older he grew up with a sense of entitlement and became the opposite of what I had hoped for personality wise.
So my advise to you - should you consider it is,
watch a very insiteful interview on CZcams called Mistakes Billionare Make with Their Family.
Also there is a good children's book that you can start reading to Garrett and have him start earning the things he wants by giving him age appropriate chores and start instealing manners from this book in him. So he grows up to be a well mannered hard worker.
The book is called Dude That's Rude! (Get some manners) and you can buy it on Amazon for approximately $10. Trust me it's worth it.
Please learn from my mistakes and take my advise to heart.

Ok Steve.. I’m to the party part and you’re talking about these crazy parties.. I get that pony rides etc aren’t really realistic .. BBUUUUUT you gotta admit, us Mexicans also do some ridiculous things too. My girls’ 1st birthday we hired a mariachi group to play at our home .. My girls for their presentación we had a hall, kegs 🙄 expensive liquor , so much food, a live band AND DJ, an awesome person to do balloon animals for the kids, custom decor (I made 😉) their dresses cost hundreds each from Chicago and their 2nd outfit was also custom ... hair done etc .... alllllll pretty much is for the adults. Kids could have cared less of the group we brought all the way from TX 😆
I think you both will do a wonderful job giving your kids everything and still keeping them humble. 🙏🏽
Once this little girl comes, you’ll be getting her a beautiful dress for her 3rd Bday too 😊
Luckily I share my birthday with my honey so he will never forget it. Same day but 2 years apart.

I just turned 30 this year. I'm single and no children. The amount of ppl who are shocked to hear that its wow. There comes a point where it is what it is. ( for me at least)
Those were my goals when I was a teenager and secretly still is 🤫 Now Im married with a 3 year old. Dont be so hard on yourself there is people who desire your lifestyle.

When the kids are little go all out. My kids are all older now and we were super poor. But when they were little I went all out on bday parties for my kids. But it was stuff I’d make. Like a fishing booth. We’d invite their whole class. I agree with spending a ton of money but you can still have fun big bday parties that aren’t very expensive. Piñatas are cheap and you can make lots of stuff and play lots of games. The kids used to always love coming to my kids parties. We did gift bags from dollar store and dance parties. They’re still tons of fun and cheap.
But my kids didn’t expect it when they got older. I would always teach them to cost of stuff and as they got older and wanted more expensive stuff I’d have them choose which they wanted more the expensive presents or parties. Most kids don’t want big parties as they get older especially boys.
Nope! Not a dude thing. My husband enjoys being a giver but he absolutely loves his birthday or any gifts and cards. Especially friends and family to celebrate with. He is a blast of fun for me. Because as a wife...I love seeing him happy! 🥰💕

Yes! That's a great one to add. We usually pick an angel from the tree at church and buy for a child, but this year Garrett will be old enough to understand and pick the gift

I share Steve view on birthday. I also consider myself as a giver. Best gift to me is to take my family to a good restaurant, invite my friends for a drink evening (and pay) or just make a small surprise for my daughter. All them happy - this is the best gift ever. I hate getting stuff. I do not know how to react, always embarrassed. Also hearing wishes is too much. I think you jave right Steve... Its a thing. A real thing for some of us.

I’m on both sides y’all. I’m islander with a big ass family with lots of kids (that open every damn water bottle and don’t finish it 🙄🖕🏽😂 ) While I like the food presentation to LOOK nice, I’m foil containers and paper products ALL. THEE. WAY boo! I, nor would I want my mom or anties washing dishes throughout the night. (We wash & go. We ain’t piling that shit up to the end lol) Hell we even put solid color $1 store table clothes on the tables, throw all the trash on one and dump the whole thing! Lol The men will “help” but usually they’re getting quietly lectured on half assing the job because they know better. 😂🙈
