    Very cool! I prefer the original Seaview in Newport, RI, but the area is so built up even in the '60's. As all the cast were likely still in NY, Lyndhurst was a natural choice

    Oh Wow, this is just great! I wondered what happened to those amazing HUGE old greenhouses in the 2nd movie. I'm glad they're still standing, although it looks like they've taken out all the glass. On an historical website, I saw pictures of the greenhouses from way back when, and they were filled with plants, even citrus and fig trees. Just awesome. I would love to visit Lyndhurst someday. Love this video.

      Thank you so much for watching and enjoying the video! I actually asked somebody when I went back this December if there is any plans to restore it, but they said it would take countless amounts of donations... it was truly gorgeous!

    I recently re-watched House of Dark Shadows after about 20 years (had it on VHS tape and streaming widescreen is so much better), and I, naturally, wondered what the locations looked like 50 years on. This video tour was awesome. Thank you.
    Also, one observation about Barnabas that vexes me when he comes to Collinwood that night - the door bell buzzer button. How does he know what it is? ;-) (I get that he would quickly deduce how to open Daphne's car door especially when he thirsts for blood, but a white button? )
    Anyway, glad to find a fellow Dark Shadows fan.

      Thank you so much for your comment! Also I love that you had the VHS as well! (those were the days! The tape always gives you the right "feels") also what a fantastic observation! Great question! Maybe Willie told him to hit the little button at the door! 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️🦇

    "Night of Dark Shadows" didn't do very well at the theaters. Apparently, after the first showing, MGM demanded extensive cuts (about 20 minutes worth) from what Dan Curtis had originally filmed. These cuts drastically altered the storyline, making it rushed and confusing. The edited footage was supposedly lost, until a dedicated fan found the "lost" footage in 2012. However, the audio portion was missing. There were plans to restore the missing footage, using the surviving actors to re-dub their voices, and have impressionists do the voices for deceased actors like Grayson Hall. However that project never got off the ground, supposedly due to funding issues.

    during the conclusion Jeff rows a boat away from Collinwood to save Maggie vanquishing two vampires after lands his boat. He pillages thru a rusty dusty mansion working his way to where Barnabas is waiting for maggie. It is an incredible stair case with dry ice fog rolling down it where the final scene ends. Where was that shot????

      I know exactly what your talking about and love the look in that scene! All I know is the movie description and novel says it takes place in the "Chapel monastery" I wish I knew the filming location. If I find out I'll let you know.

    House of Dark Shadows got a good review in 1970 but Night Of Dark Shadows a year later in 1971 really stunk....
    Half of the original cast passed up appearing in it .

      I watched both at our local theater when they came out with a big group of friends. We loved both. We all loved David Selby and Kate Jackson from watching their romance on "Dark Shadows", so we were primed to love it, I suppose. Angelique winning out was quite a surprise. The first movie was shocking because it was very bloody and violent, and they killed Caroline. Very different from the slow-moving soap opera.

    Lyndhurst is a National Trust property I would love to visit, but at this stage of life probably will not make it. So thanks for this tour.👍. Know of Sea View Terrace 🏰. Does anyone know where Johnny Depp resurrection of DARK SHADOWS was filmed? Stay 🏳️‍🌈.

    • @RadicalRetroRewind
      @RadicalRetroRewind  Před 9 měsíci

      So glad you enjoyed it. So the Depp movie from what I found was filmed in England, as well as Scotland and Canada. And the Collinwood outside was actually built from scratch for the movie.

    during the shooting of the house of dark shadows... the conservatory was still partially glassed. In 2023... there is no glass or restoration. Whats up with that????
