If you haven't been in Alaska for the winter, you DON'T know Alaska.

We were here for alot of the below zero temperatures last year.
we leave so I can take care of my In-laws, and so my son can have some memories with them. They're are not mobile and need assistance. They cannot fly here to visit due to their age.
when I go back I'm mainly cooking, cleaning and helping them get up and down, running errands. I had to build them a mother-in-laws suite in their house for the caretakers.
Moving 6,000 miles away takes time & money.
We're leaving the country to afford the medical treatments to have another child.
The "True alaskan" talk is hilarious to me bc I take ice baths for pleasure.

You only live once and it’s a short experience at that. You are born alone and you will die alone. If you want something in life it needs to be done for and by yourself. You family will be there with you in the afterlife, and luckily I’m this modern day and age you can video call and fly in a metal tube at 500 mph so you aren’t ever truly alone or without family. We left the city and spent 12 years off-grid in the rainforest. This is all very familiar. Interesting neighbors (from scientists to tweakers), fresh food (our kids used to eat directly from our plants; not even picking with their hands), no decent grocery store for miles, free thinkers who can agree to disagree, thriftin' at the dump, weird crime (someone down the road from us had their HOUSE stolen); all of it. 😂
We're in a town now, for various reasons, but I definitely miss a lot about this way of life, and we still talk about eventually going back to off-grid living.

Really enjoying all of your videos - very well done and super important. Real life is happening before your eyes.

It’s been like a huge learning curve, and my favorite saying is, “For every solution, there becomes another problem.” But get it done and when you get in bed that night absolutely exhausted(and stinky because your cistern ran out of water so a nice warm shower is out), you think, “Wow, I accomplished something today.” No feeling like it. 24:35 - 25:00 was so amazing to watch. The father explains his reasoning as his son showed him rolling in the wild and picks a berry to eat as the father explains without the full knowledge of kid doing it behind him. So amazing.

Peter, I have watched all of your videos to date. Sometimes I watch them over and over again I’ve learned so much from you. You’re a great interviewer and I like how patient you are with people you don’t ask him uncomfortable questions you do come out and say things, but you do it in a way that doesn’t make them uncomfortable and that’s why I like you. Keep making the videos please oh and by the way your wife is beautiful.

It's literally like a war zone and a third world country it's insane! I am so excited for you and your family that you got out of there and get to look at such beautiful scenery everyday and be with each other everyday that's a far life from Kensington life and so proud and happy for you and yours! I agree the war is in your mind. I battled mine over thirty years ago and drugs mean nothing to me anymore. Moving away is simply pulling a geographic. As they I moved but I brought the ass hole addict with me. It’s not the location it’s us. We need to make the change. I hope your doing well and you are taking good care of yourself. Drugs have destroyed many of my childhood lives and they passed way to young. Sometimes it makes me sad they could not find the “ street car called straight” it was not in their plans. Take care

why do you people say things like "when i was in my addiction?"
dude you were a drug addict by choice...addiction has nothing to do with it...why isnt EVERYONE addicted to drugs?
because they choose not to take them and if you claim its not a choice then explain HOW YOU WERE ABLE TO STOP TAKING THE DRUGS?

do you however need to go in Alaska and pay like he said 350 k to have the electricity ? makes no sense tbh. I have been to Washington DC as a tourist and didnt see any drugs but then again I dont go out at night really. Alaska is nice but to go live remotely like this is dangerous and you talk about hospital, he has no hospital nearby / It is pathetic and I hope this is the wife decision too . I ll never live anywhere remote. This is bs , you dont have be out late at night and can stay in a city such as Washington DC for example and simply go out during the day or move out to Europe even. Its just a an easy way out, he is willing to set up the electricity himself and learn how to hunt instead of learning French and moved into a village in france where he could have bought a house for 50k.
Makes no sense if you really dig into his points.

I recommend a class action lawsuit against the City of Philadelphia for enabling the conditions in Kensington. The neighborhood is obviously a lawless funnel for the region's drug addicts. Forced secured rehab for anyone caught under the influence of narcotics is the obvious route to addressing this issue. Chances are that many of the local politicians, non profits and "clergy" are directly involved in the drug trade in Kensington.

These guys are probably my favorite you have ever interviewed ever they are so well spoken and intelligent and just good natured. I myself moved across the country to a place I don't know to start over for all the same reasons she mentioned it's so rare to meet other down to earth free thinking alternative people anymore, I don't quite have the balls to do Alaska but upstate NY is such a change from Seattle and yet nothing change people wise, I wish I could live in the middle of no where and get away from all the bs.
