I've picked up "Welcome to Arkham", and it is very well done. In addition to bringing a lot of lore together in one place it is packed with cool art and lots of little "prop" illustrations (hotel room keys, matchbooks, newspaper clippings) that really help bring the various locations to life. There is a story thread running throughout the book that is fun too. The book can be found online at a considerable discount from the MSRP.👍👍
Edge Studio (making the Arkham RPG) is also the company that made those "The End of the World" RPG books. I thought it was the coolest idea and bought most of them... but the truth was, it wasn't a system any of my players wanted to actually play. Normally they're happy to play new systems. But when you got down to it, it just seemed like a better idea than implementation. Hopefully this will be better.
I would be careful about EDGE Studios. They have not been very good for a lot of basic things since they technically split off from FFG. Most of the systems they are in charge of have really bad reprinting issues and a terrible release schedule.
I deciphered the coded letter in the first game. It says: "The eternal One who Hungers in The deaths Is nerly Here With his rise Wil come the Fest of the Ded, and the Writhing Bodies of The guilty Ones - brother waren" O and Y seems to be replaced by the same character.
Correct me if I am wrong but is Arkham Horror TTRPG a lovecraftian TTRPG based on lovecraftian card game that was based on board game board game which was based on lovecraftian TTRPG(call of cthulhu). Did we make whole circle?
Exactly, Call of Cthulhu already do a great job since the 80's I don't see the point to add one more cthulhu rpg games when there are many already. Plus I don't see any lovecraftian aspect in Arkham horror series of game because is way to pulp, since when you can fight the mythos with baseball bat or guns? There are nothing like that in Lovecraft book.
My Welcome to Arkham book just arrived on Friday. Similar quality as the Investigators book. Expensive but a nice thing to have if you love the Arkham Files universe.
Fantasy flight booth at Gen Con this year is going to be buh-nanas. New arkham products and their star wars unlimited TCG. Good old classic 2 hour FF line here I come.
This seems very odd considering AH is already based on call of cthulhu. I can't imagine there's a market for two lovecraft rpgs. I just wish we'd see some love for the board games (not the lcg).

Fighting Fantasy gamebook House of Hell is almost like Arkham Horror. My father introduced me to these gamebooks. I loved that I read through his journal and I remember one entry from one of the attempts "scared to death by flying chair", what is more Arkham-ey than this! :D And It felt great that I could introduce him to Mansion of Madness 2nd edition. He really felt like playing the House of Hell gamebook. It was a nostalgia hit for him. It's probably TOP1 gamebook in that series. Also Creature of Havoc is kinda Lovecraftian and probably second best (no bias, they just are the best two).
Is it just me or does anyone else see this? In the main artwork for the RPG, the depiction of Carolyn seems more like they crossed Carolyn and Daisy. Maybe it's just the books, but I also think she looks younger than Carolyn does (hell, if you told me this person/Carolyn was supposed to be younger or similar in age to Rita, I might believe you).
It's interesting that a gameworld that was based on Call of Cthulhu would birth an RPG that competes with its progenitor. I've played CoC and (mostly) like it so I'm curious what AH:RPG does to distinguish itself. I like FFG's Star Wars RPG system, but this looks like something different.
Well one could argue that it is based not on Call of Cthulhu but on the Lovecraft Mythos itself. The same with many other products including Achtung! Cthulhu, Cthulhu Wars etc..

The irony I’m trying to point out is that FFG licensed Arkham Horror from Chaosium, who is best known for their related RPG, CoC, to make a hit board game franchise and is now licensing that licensed title to make its cosmic horror RPG which obviously competes directly with the IP it was licensed from.
@@refreshdaemon Fair enough. This actually reminded me that the Call of Cthulhu LCG/CCG existed. I know Arkham Horror 3rd edition and the LCG are not dependant on the CoC license from Chaosium since the Mythos went open, but I completely forgot about the card game that existed before AH.

Really depends if you're into the dnd make your own adventure group thing otherwise I think mansion of madness pretty much satisfy that dnd arkham horror experience
Yeah, it really depends on how open you prefer your roleplaying. Mansions of Madness is a great story game, but it lacks any sort of openness in terms of gameplay that tabletop RPGs like D&D and Call of Cthulhu provide.
@@PlayingBoardGames I understand what you mean but since Arkham horror is based on the cthulthu mythos unless you know the lore well as a DM otherwise you can only do so much without breaking lore and some task are near impossible when facing older and outer gods besides going insane 😂
Avoid this game. Its a miserable way to treat your friends. Story telling style locks you into an unavoidable battle with an invincible monster. Then your friends laff at your frustration then ridicule your failure for years to come. It is flat out abuse. Avoid this game like the plague, it ruins friendships.

they used a slide puzzle game in Mansions of Madness app for one of the locks, Nice to see what is coming out.
Not strict Arkham Files lore, but foundational and an awesome complement is Call of Cthulhu: Arkham by Chaosium.
