- how do mechanical engineers earn in South Africa with a GCC (Government Competency Certificate)? How much is a junior mechanical engineer earning in South Africa
#liferesetwithboni #bonixaba #southafricanjobs #salaries #payslips #engineering
I really appreciate your work Boni. Keep inspiring us!
💥🙏
😂😂I am slowly getting there currently doing my N5 in boilermaking
Just double check, most companies don’t allow boiler makers to be engineers because you can’t size pumps, motors etc.. they prefer electrical and mechanical engineers only .. do your homework.
Hello, I am also doing boilermaking N3. I would like to connect with you if possible
@@nqobileshakes1929 sure what platform were thinking we could communicate in
@@matsieserwale5768 I've noticed that henche why I'll be enrolling in the electrical department while looking for an apprenticeship
Bro boilermaker ends at n3 from n4 to n6 you do mechanical engineering
There's too much supply of engineering graduates and not enough jobs to match, as a result companies start exploiting professionals like that. I have over 12 years in the industry and there are very few well paying jobs, 5 to 10%, the rest of them pay peanuts. Those who are blessed will enjoy the ride, but majority of engineers are frustrated. Dedicate yourself and excel while you're in varsity and also as a junior engineer, that will help set you apart and hopefully land you in some of the best companies.
South africa is a nightmare, and not everyone can just pack and go to Australia. I get your point very well.
Engineering pays well, especially when you have acquired GCC and are employed in the mining environment...
Mara at least you're keeping us young ones motivated 🙂🤟
🙏
If I were the 1st two Candidates mentioned in this video, I would have chosen an Apprenticeship program in Millwright, Instruments Mechanician, or Fitter and Turner Not the Graduate 🎓 Programme😴
This is my Best 👌 investment:
1. National diploma (Technician)
2. Trade Certificate (Artisan)
3. Register with (ECSA)
3. Projects Management to Advanced.
4. Work Experience (Specific Machinery)
5. Then Apply for GCC exam
Estimated time ⏲️: minimum = 5 years.
In My Opinion 😊.
Hello, thank you, I'll make sure they see your comment.
How i wish I dd instrument apprenticeship instead of the eletrical one.
But you can only register with ECSA if you have a BEng/BSc Eng degree not the artisan stuff
Hi, can you please elaborate more on where can we get the full information. Thank you
@noctanal9269 I agree, that's a rare and scarce Trade. And Those Artisans live Large bro...
Remember that there is usually one engineer which is a disadvantage when compared to fitters etc
To think that I have cssd assistants some with no matric yet paid R11000 but none less than R8000 and to hear this insult to graduates is really sad 😢.
Yes. BEng/ BSc Eng graduates get paid around R30K during their graduate programs.
Yes !
Net/gross
Im actually lazy to do GCC. I have national diploma in Mechanical Engineering and 3 years experience. I think I'll stick tl being a Technician.
I feel dizzy after watching this video😭....the last pay slip just weakened my muscles🤷♂ndicela nindiphe amanzi...yhoo moyoyingcwele bengiyaphi😹

2 years is a very short time.
Cool
Yes
Okay, is official I'm unemployed 😢
All of us mfwethu 😅😅😅
You and I both 😮
His tax is not even....🙋 Nvm
Yoh...Kodwa you're right in comment you wrote on the video. We mustnt forget the responsibility that comes with the pay, cause bayayijulukela!
Yes, you can even be arrested if something goes wrong..
It is the nicest job, no responsibility whatsoever except the legal appointment.. all you do is talk.. go home sleep and come back to work…
Boni there’s a difference between someone that did a BTech in engineering, a national diploma and a BEng/Bsc Engineering degree. Usually the BEng/Bsc Engineering holds the highest earning potential. This is what you referred to about the UP graduates that get around 30k pm. Not to say that the others cannot reach that high earning potential with experience.
Yes, that's why I mentioned it. Those ones they can start with R30k on a grad programme easily. .
@@sawanav6499 you guys are not informed and it is concerning that you come to such platforms and spread such lies.
So this is how this works:
1. It depends on where you get a graduate program or internship
2. Anyone with a national diploma upwards can qualify for a GCC, obviously this is provided you studied towards mechanical or electrical engineering
3. A company will pay for the course work and provide the experience required
4. Mining companies don’t usually care whether you have a BEng or diploma because at the end of the day you don’t necessarily certify anything you just need to be smart, have leadership potential and be willing to work hard. There is a lot of moving between places.
4. Every one doing GCC goes through step 3 hence the salary is the same!
@@matsieserwale5768 so you mean BTech, national diploma and BEng/BSc Eng all earn the same amount? Can't be!
@@sawanav6499 I don’t need to read anything.. I’m talking from experience
@@JOAE24 do your homework and ask around… life is unfortunately about starting at the right place at the right time, that sets the tone for the rest of your life.. and your capability.. obviously a Beng/Bsc student is highly gifted and confident, hence has a better chance of going far and maximising their salaries
So there are people out there that earn other people's Per Annum, Monthly 😢
When I was doing my electrical engineering apprenticeship at city of Tshwane I got paid R2000 a month 😢
How much are you making now?
@@mpholurking I'm currently self employed I can make up to 5k a day depending on the job
His pension is not that much, I think he left it at minimum and his medical also maybe lower option, actually his deductions are very low
R8400 Is low?
@@liferesetwithboni very low as a Government Certificate of Competence holder at least 10k up, those guys are making serious money let alone bonus and shares he must make his pension 100%
yeah but he could be pushing other investments like building his properties cash etc
He could increase his pension contribution and this will lower his tax payment.

Hook me up with the GCC guy. I have a diploma in Mechanical Engineering. I just want to ask him some questions.
Hi, me too please sis.
Download the subjects needed for a mechanical GCC (Ndiploma) compare with what you have and check the outstanding ones needed to qualify, they are 19 in total and must be above 50%. Must have over two years of factory/ plant experience, over 23 years.
1. Statement of results for all 19 subjects certified.
2. Fill in the application form and pay a certain amount
3. If you meet the qualifying criteria you ll be issued with an acceptance letter from DOL that expires after 3 years certifying you as candidate engineer.
4. Prepare for the factory and Ohs law exam written in May and November every year.
5. Wait for the results, it normally takes one to two months before publishing them to your exam center.
6. Submit the statement of results and acceptance letter to DOL and you ll then be issued with a GCC certifying that your a certified Engineer.
7. Then you can start applying for vacancy that requires a GCC certificate to be appointed as GMR2.1 or GMR2.7 to ensure that plant complies with the OHSA regulation, and that's when you start making 6 digits.
Hopefully this information is clear for your journey 🙏
@thabisoramatabana9309 This is very helpful. Thank you so much.
Can anyone explain how to reach GCC without going to university 🙏
You get a learnership with a company usually a mining company, the company will pay your gcc and give you experience. It takes 2 years but you need a minimum of a national diploma.
There is also GCC for the factories available for the mechanical and engineering field. You need to have a minimum of 2 years of working experience, a letter from HR confirming the experience, and a signed by line manager. The letter needs to be sent to the Dept of labor to determine whether you qualify or not to write an exams for GCC
@matsieserwale5768 National N Diploma doesn't qualify?coz Mina I'm in N6 now and I don't want to go to university 😢
@sellomolekoa1559 so GCC is a Certificate that u can get after writing an exam, without specific training center for it?
Like I thought I must have experience then do a specific course for GCC aside before writing exam
@@solomonmonanyane5519can apply with ur Nation N diploma i did the same....but u must get 50% in all ur subjects

@@liferesetwithboni yes actually this video motivated me kakhulu and 😂😂 ngsafunda doing 3rd year B tech in mechanical engineering so nje Ngfuna ukuzama ukube Ng apply if kuvela ama graduates programs
Yoh!😮
Must differentiate between Engineers, Technicians, and artisans .... Thanks
You can do it for us.
@@seimela lol there is no difference once they all have a GCC🤓🤓… artisan is someone with a trade test, their duty is to replace and repair or pull cables if they are electricians or millwrights in addition to reseting and energising equipment…
Technician depend on where you work? Because it doesn’t exist in the mining industry except if you are an instrument or mechanician… usually someone that has done light current.
Engineer carry a legal appointment, is the owner of all the equipment in the company their duty you go figure on LinkedIn⛏️🤓
In addition to this you can register as a professional engineer or technician to obviously sign off designs etc.. an engineer doesn’t sign off any designs unless registered as a professional but they can review and question designs etc…
To qualify as an artisan you need N2 and a trade test. But that will never make you an engineer, however it pays very well thanks to overtime and standby allowances and has the advantage that in a company artisans account for almost everyone in the workshop, this are the people doing the hard work….
@@matsieserwale5768😂😂😂😂
Beng Tech, in cicil engineering please😭🙏

I've done it. Check under is bsc useless salary video.
What qualifications does the last engineer have?
Hhaw it's mentioned on the video.
i couldnt even finish watching the videos
😅😅😅
But Boni your payslips seem inflated... can you do your research as well, compare with HR Business partners establish the ranges or atleast the industries.. because sometimes your figures genuinely don’t sound right…
And make sure you don’t have expats that are converting their salaries from US dollars to rands, which is very common..
For instance, a classic saver at discovery is way more than R1000 so do your homework as well… don’t sell people dreams, overtime and bonus’s are is are not salaries hence are usually the first to go when companies are going through tough times, please do your homework and stop selling dreams..
If an Engineer is taking home R200k a month in a company how much is the manager earning ? … an EPCM engineer most definitely because the working dynamics are completely different but a full time in-house engineer??
Did you read this comment after writing it?
@@liferesetwithboni it has an error but it still doesn’t absolve you from not doing your due diligence

@@katlegoselekane157 if you say so 🤓🤓…
@matsieserwale5768 and in mining not even your hr business partners compare to artisans. HR is a non technical role there. You should just google salaries of GCC engineers. It is YOU who said this seems inflated.
How much National MP earn if he is new
