  • Brent has started a new project, a 1938 Charles Dilbeck house. Dilbeck was a great regional architect who wonderfully created charming homes that still are awesome today. Hand-hewn beam work, custom hardware, amazing fireplaces, come check it out.

I did not know about Charles Dilbeck! And now I'm a fan - thank you!
I'm going to find a book on this guy.

As a gamer I've always taken notice of the architecture in the fantasy games that I like to play. I would say I wish we still build like that. That house is straight out of The Witcher 3. Stone, timber, and leaded glass. Truly a magical home.

Thank you for talking about Norman style homes. I tried looking up examples of them recently but there were so few and the search results were muddled (also, lots of McMansions came up!). It's great to have a specific name to look into, and to see this style acknowledged as it's own thing separate from Tudor or just the more generic French country. Love this channel!

It’s true the combination of English influence with the French is quite unique

Awesome job touring a house full of incredible details. The home appears to be quite large but the scale both the exterior and interior are very much human scale.

I'm glad I was looking at the screen when you described the handrail as "so straight and so twisted". Otherwise I may have had an aneurysm.
Thanks again for another amazing house tour! The detailing in this house was incredible, the ballast bricks were awesome.

Terrific house! Thank you for showing all of the wonderful details. Here in California we have storybook style houses as well as "mock-Tudors". For some reason it reminds me of the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant near Montgomery Field, which includes many features of a Normandy Farmhouse.

😯 Did you say 8 minutes in, a fungus in the wood, a good thing? I would be worried about that, I thought that was a bad thing. 🤔

What a wonderful place. We desperately need to find a way to get leaded glass windows and transoms back into our buildings. Brent, is there a way that a picture can be sent to you? There is something I wanted to show and and ask a question. Thanks.
