    And now I want a Juki 😊

    FYI, the standard foot that comes with the machine sews at a scant 1/4 inch and the hinged quarter inch sews at a true quarter inch. You can get feet with guides but I happen to dislike them pressing into my fabric when I'm trying to sew on flat fabric, such as diagonally across an HST. I spent hours researching scant quarter feet that did not have guides and very few machines have one, in fact I think this is the only one that does. The nice thing on both the scant and the quarter inch foot is that if you're sewing for instance a quarter of an inch to each side of a line down a square piece of fabric, you don't have to turn the fabric around to sew the other side just move your fabric to the right or left as you need. And, best of all unlike as in the case of my other machines you don't have to try and position the needle at a scant or a quarter inch and write down your measurements, you just stick the foot on and you're ready to go. I really like that feature. I tried all these things out at my sewing store today and measured the seam widths, and the site that I went to called Juki Junkies is absolutely accurate about what they say about the scant and quarter inch. You wouldn't believe the amount of time I put into my research. Even the Juki Company didn't know that they had a scant 1/4 in foot. My quilting leader on a QAL sent me a picture of hers and nobody could tell me that one actually existed and where to find it, because.. it was the standard presser foot that came with the machine! I found it annoying to have to keep my foot suspended in the air to press the pedal without putting my heel down and cutting the thread. There's an accessory you can get that locks under the heel so that you eliminate that problem. If I buy this machine I will use that. I didn't really see the advantage of the knee lever because it has only one function to lift and lower the presser foot. If you want to look at a video on how to measure the width of seams go to the Featherweight Shop site, or call Baby Lock. Baby Lock asked me for the link to the Featherweight Shop site so that they could watch the video! Your measurement must include the seam line. There is scientific reasoning behind using a scant quarter inch, that involves the folding back of the fabric when you press a seam open, and achieving the width you actually want, allowing for the fold and allowing for the seam line. It's important to note that on the 2000 there isn't a speed slider. I had some trouble controlling the speed just with the foot pedal, going from very slow to really really fast. After I practiced a few times this was easier. You just have to get used to the pedal and the pressure you need to achieve your speed. I will probably wait a while before buying this machine. I just started learning to quilt last September and unless I get really dedicated to it, I don't need a machine that shows at 1500 or sew a king size quilt. One additional thought, I've come across a lot of sewing feet that claim to be a quarter of an inch and actually sew a 3/8" seam. Makes me wonder if any of these sewing machine manufacturers have ever tried selling.

    I appreciate one comment specifically. I would of never quessed that you used a home machine to quilt your quilts. Im stunned by that! I have a very old 30 years singer machine that does nearly everything. But I never quilted on it. Maybe I have too many layers if fill in my quilts. In 6 months I will be buying a new machine. I will keep this in mind. Tfs.

And straight stitch is fine, I have another machine I can use if I need zigzag, overcasting, buttonholes etc, and I mainly do quilts, so use mainly straight stitch anyway. Great that you get a walking foot with it, often you have to buy them separately, and they are NOT cheap! I use a walking foot quite a bit. Ok I'm saving up. Thanks and God bless 😊

      Hi, There's a teeny tiny hook that has to go through the eye of the needle for it to work. Tip #1: I've found that if I push down just a tad on the metal piece near the needle head that it helps the hook get into that eye a little easier. Tip #2: press the needle up/down button one time to make sure the needle is in the exact correct position to thread. Tip #3: make sure your needle is all the way up in the needle shaft when you put in a new needle. If it's down just a tad it won't work.

Now I just purchased the cutie frame and I need a larger throat machine...and I was looking at this machine and your video popped up and I turned my head, but heard your voice and I said that voice sounds familiar and I looked up and it was YOU!! LOL! I'm sorry I'm long winded, NOW I KNOW I WILL PURCHASE THIS SEWING MACHINE, LOL...I have questions, is this a high or low shank machine (2) can I use rulers for free motion, because I can't free motion to save my life (3) and if I can use rulers, do I need a ruler motion foot... Thanks Erica for an awesome video!

    Just got a Juki TL and I’m looking for recommendations for threads to use for garment sewing and also for some heavier bag making projects with denim and upholstery fabric. Suggestions? I would like to use large cones to save $$

    My husband bought this model for me back in 2018. I absolutely love it! However, it does not have stitch control. After see the TL models that DO have stitch control, I'm thinking about trading mine in.

    I just bought my first Juki TL-2000QI. I absolutely love it! But I have never had so many issues with my top thread breaking and coming out of the thread holder. I’ve tried everything to fix this issue. Do you have any tips to keep this from happening?

    This is the machine I want. But I'm not sure why you said it's not good for garment sewing because of the speed? That's exactly why i want it because of the speed when i batch sew. lol!

      @erica_arndt  Před 3 lety

      Hi, I'm sorry for any confusion, I didn't say it wasn't good for garment sewing because of the speed, I don't recommend it for garment sewing because it is a straight-stitch only machine. If you will be doing garment sewing you will probably want to look for a machine with a zig-zag stitch as well as you will be using that often :)

    Please, what are these machines that only can do the straight stitching designed for? What kind of products do you sew on a machine that v cannot make zigzag stitches?
    Thank you for your answer.

      Hi, this is a quilting machine, you use it to piece quilt tops. You can also do basic sewing with it as well. But if you plan to do mainly home-sewing you'll want to get a machine with at least a straight and zig-zag stitch.

    I like this machine, thanks for your review! I sew clothes (from silk clothes to wool coats) and do not need quilting but I like the idea of this machine. I just love straight stitch. Would you say it's worth?

    I’m not a quilter but I have been making beginner items. My newer Husqvarna does not sew easily through thicker fabric especially with cotton interfacing. It seems to be an ongoing issue reported by other users as well. I think the simplicity of this Juki would be better for me but it’s always referred to as a ‘quilter’s machine’. Just curious how it does with basic straight stitched sewing projects. Thank you!

      Well, I make pretty much everything on this machine unless I need a zig-zag stitch. I've done clothing, and of course a lot of bags, and other small projects on it. I would say it's great for everything except if you need the zig-zag to seal off an edge like in clothing construction.

    Thank you for another great video. What needles do you use on your machine? I have heard organ needles are good, thought I would ask you since your my go to person for all things quilting and homeschool, thanks for all you do.

    Can you link your oil, please? The bottle of oil that came with my Juki Haruka has a large spout and I’d much prefer the thin needle type spout like on you oil container. Thank you!
    Also, please update us on your sew along. I’m anxious to see what you have planned!

    Thanks for a nice review. I use mine for clothing, curtains and quilting. Please note that the illustrated threading is wrong, since you missed the balance spring and went three times through the large thread guide, where it should only be two. So, everybody: for threading - refer to the very well illustrated manual.

    • @erica_arndt
      @erica_arndt  Před 2 lety

      Hi, definitely refer to your own machine manual, but I double checked and how I threaded the machine in the video EXACTLY matches what my manual says as well.

    Thanks so much for this video! I just bought the machine and I’m so excited to use it. What are your tips for free motion quilting on this machine? I watching your video on FMQ but you were using a different machine in that one. Anything specific to know about the Juki when FMQ? Thanks!!!

    Hi Erica, so I purchased this machine last night. I was watching some videos last night and I believe this machine is a lower grade from the Juki 2010, which you talked about four years ago. If Im not mistaking why did you downgrade machines? I spoke with the company and they attempted to sell the 2010. I hope I made the right choice. Thanks.
