First off, many thanks for providing your excellent LUTs for free. I've been struggling a little since using the GH5 to get the best colour from the Natural (White in Revery settings) profile and now having seen this and applied your corrective LUT it has transformed my workflow. I have a documentary that I am editing and in the process of producing, and this tutorial of yours could not have come at a better time for me. Much appreciated and thanks again from a fellow Brit and GH5 user!
That's awesome Neil, glad to hear it's helped! Hope you're getting more used to the GH5, it is a solid camera but takes a bit of getting used to.
Thanks a lot for the great feedback and all the best with the doc :)
Shoot 150 Kelvin below the actual WB is another way to deal with the yellow haze of the described NAT settings.
Easy way for controlled environment.
You say you're not a colorist, but you're so much more professional than most of the HOW TO GET CINEMATIC LOOKS ON GH5 youtubers :) You know what you're talking about and even if you don't, you just try things out and learn yourself. Big respect from me!
Wow thanks Adam that means a lot!
Colour grading is one of those things that I feel like I’m always working on :)
Thanks a lot for the positive words!
DUDE you just gave me advice on my japan trip in your last video and convinced me as to why Cine-D would edge Natural profile for Dynamic range and also allow me to mess with some color correcting. But then I see this video and thought OMG I have been using White In reverys profile for years as a hobbyist and thought it was YELLOW looking! And this whole time you had a fix these last 4 years LOL. I haven't tried them but it makes me feel more comfortable knowing that you have a LUT fix to skin tones on White In Reverys Natural settings and for Cine-D if I decide to experiment with that. I only use Davinici Resolve at the moment but hopefully that's not a problem down the road as far as utilizing your LUT. I was going to ask you what your thoughts were on the GHAlex Luts but then you made a video about that as well!
I'm just getting back into shooting with my camera because of my Japan trip and your channel has given me a lot of answers and flexibility with how to use my GH5! I'm also confident enough to shoot knowing that as long as I have proper exposure and white balance I can fall back on your LUTS (or GHAlex). I appreciate it alot! Lastly, I noticed you havent made much content for your channel since 3+ years now. I was curious as to what camera youre using today. Can't say thanks enough for all the tips/lessons.
Cheers! So yeah this answers your questions on why I don’t like the skin on cine-D even if it has more dynamic range than natural, the colour itself comes out a bit dead and ‘not creamy’.
You could try the LUT out to correct that on the given settings, and yes that’d also work fine in Resolve 👍🏻
These days I’m shooting on the Canon C70 and the R6 as a B Cam, although I’ve still got love for Panasonic! At least you know the GH5 won’t overheat, the R6 does 😅
Enjoy Japan!
Great video man! The time you put into these is apparent. The LUTs are clutch btw!
Cheers Robert!
you got a new sub sir... lumix g85 user here
I came back again, this is a superb lut
Myles - awesome video; I concur with the other comments praising your style and hard work. I do have what's probably a stupid question - the second set of LUTs is meant to be used for the cine-D color profile, correct? IE, you're giving us LUTs for both the Natural profile and the cine-D profile (told it was a stupid question!). I've yet to come up with a simple, yet pleasing straight out of camera/slight grade look from the GH5, so something like this is right up my alley. Thanks so much - John (liked/subbed)
Hi John, thanks a lot! Yes on that link there should be 3 folders, 1 each for Natural, Cine-D and also v-log. They were designed for the specific settings given in the accompanying PDF so bear that in mind before your next shoot if you wanted to try them. The Natural one is strong in case you need to adjust the intensity of it :)
OK, got it! Thanks again for the video and the reply!
This is amazing thank you so much!
Thank you! Hope it helps
Thank you for your help. You saved my life on Asian skintones, and very likely also in the future.
I appreciate it!
Glad it helped, thank you for the kind message!
im so late to this but this is the best thing in the world. tysm
Thank you Kyle!
Really interesting Myles!!! Thanks for the free luts as well. Could you tell us profile, adjustments and luts used in this video? I like the colors in your video.
Thanks Roberto! Is it the talking head parts you're asking about? They were all shot in Cine-D with the Cine-D 'Neutral' LUT I gave away in the Cine-D video, I don't even think there were any adjustments after that as the White Balance and exposure were good in camera :)
Thank you very much! I'm getting a GH5s soon and I was wondering what LUT would be a good starting point. Appreciate it :)
It’s worth a try, as is regular Natural profile :)
I’ll be honest though, these were developed from GH5 tests and I am aware the GH5S treats colours *slightly* differently so results might differ a touch.
Enjoy it!
@@ShotByMyles cool i'll keep that in mind ;) thanks again!
Great video Myles. I use Natural for my filmmaking. You are such a pro in front of the camera. I wish my crowd fund video was like this! would you saying use LUTS is for Colour graders?
Haha thanks a lot, too generous!
Its tough, talking directing to the camera. The audience.
Shark definitely, it feels a bit weird! Definitely still learning, partly why I keep doing it :)
I just saw your earlier question- pros will definitely use LUTs, at least to do colour space transformation.
For example Arri camera users will shoot in LogC and convert that to Rec709 which is a neutral baseline, or they might even use creative LUTs designed specifically for the Arris which cost hundreds of dollars!
Thanks for your reply Myles. I'm not great at colour science you see. I'd rather leave up to someone who knew what they are doing. :)
Shark it’s a fun-but-complex world, Natural is a good choice if you aren’t trying to delve too deep though and want something that already looks good 👍🏻
Thanks mate love your work. I am also rocking the GH5 ... lapping at adding a second camera to my collection of gear. Shoot a lot of wedding and youtube vids for business. What do think go for another GH5 or is the GH5s worth the extra bucks
Thanks! I can see the GH5S being useful for low light situations at weddings but honestly I’d really miss the IBIS!
I sold my GH5S a while ago as it didn’t seem to justify the extra cost IMO. I’ve also just bought a G9 as a B camera to the GH5- haven’t fully tested it yet but I expect the colour to match better between that and the GH5 compared to the GH5S which has a different colour science. It’s also a lot cheaper and still does 10 bit video (can do HLG but can’t do V-log). The main drawback is the recording time limit of 30 mins, but that doesn’t affect me in my work. I love that it can be powered by a USB bank!
Honestly they’re all great cameras so I think it comes down to whether low light video is a big enough factor for you to justify the cost of the GH5S. I doubt any non-camera person would detect a quality difference between them otherwise. Good luck!
@@ShotByMyles Thanks mate.
Hey Myles, quick question, do you always set custom white balance while filming? For example, the shot of the dog on the boat did you have time to set white balance on camera or did you use auto white balance? :) Thanks!
Hi Fer! In bright sunlight in the middle of the day I just go with the preset for daylight tbh, and same for cloud cover when the sky is clouded over, I’ll just use the cloudy preset. That should mean if I need to change it in post it should be minor.
When the sun starts to go down the colour temperature changes so at that point I think it helps to change the WB, and getting used to adjusting manually would obviously be ideal but a grey card and custom WB would make it easier.
Wow I never thought of that! I’ve always used the auto WB and like you said before it’s a nightmare to fix in post. Thank you SO much for taking the time to get back to me so fast. I’ll put it in practice. Cheers!
BRO, THANK YOUUUUUU!!!!
WTF how have I not came across this. I shoot GH4 but upgrading to the GH5 in a few weeks. I've been using their luts for ages for many weddings I've shot aaah
How are you finding their LUTs? I bet they're good!
Shot by Myles for the GH4 super easy but you have to expose quite bright for in door shots otherwise you get really crushed blacks from just putting them on but i think the GH5 might help with it
Hello Myles, (I asked this question in your colour grading course but my computer was playing up so not sure if it sent?!)
Firstly, thank you for such a great course! It is very in-depth and something I will be slowly working through over the next few months.
I started doing weddings a year ago and have filmed 13 so far Using Cine-V on GH5 without any grading or correction. I want to improve my skills hence enrolling into this course. I am colourblind which often makes colour grading difficult, especially when having to make decisions that are often “personal preference”. I can easily accidentally make lovely tanned skin look like an umpalumpa!
My question is this, in the short-term what would be the easiest/safest way to film on the GH5 whilst providing a good wedding film grade without too much risk?
(I will still be doing the course as my longer term aim is to become a lot better)
Thanks for the kind words, Joe!
I can see your question on Udemy so I'll respond there in case anyone else is in a similar situation.
Shot by Myles thank you - I look forward to reading it!

1:50 how do people get such clean whites.. it amazes me.. is it the lens ? is it jsut he color profile ? the color grading ?
In my opinion it comes from in-camera settings and then the grade!
In camera you would do a custom white balance and expose correctly (just to keep bright whites bright without over-exposing).
Then in post, you still might need to adjust white balance to get them perfect, or there is a small trick of reducing the saturation of the low saturation areas using a ‘sat vs sat’ curve which most editors now have. Hope that helps!
@@ShotByMyles thanks will try
hi!nice video!can you tell us what settings yo use at sd profile with gh5?thanks
Thank You for sharing your knowledge. On the Panasonic G9 color profile there is no HUE adjustment - is there a way it be succesfully applied to get similar effect ? Im having mix results, but probably I'm doing something wrong.
Ah honestly I'd love to test but I've sold my G9- I would expect it to come out OK but I can't test myself...
Honestly Natural alone looks good, I used to just add some contrast and saturation and enjoy it- this LUT was mainly for the White In Revery settings which I think were popular but a bit yellow for me.
Some of my favourite footage was Natural with the Shadows turned down in-camera (not sure if that is do-able on the G9, if not can be done in post) the skin tones are already nice and it's a soft look you can make punchy with contrast and saturation. Good luck!
wow vey informative
Thanks man!
Thanks buddy. Great video. I'm currently filming weddings. Would you suggest filming VLOG over natural? Am I really going to see the differences?
Thanks Richard! I think personally I’d choose not to use v-log for a wedding... v-log is noisier in low light, it’s tougher to monitor and expose correctly with the reduced waveform, it’d require 10 bit which rules out any VFR modes or 4K 50P, and it’s probably more work in post for an improvement that your customers might not even see.
That’s just me personally, by all means test it out yourself but bear in mind even Philip White (award winning wedding guy) doesn’t shoot log or even grade his stuff extensively!
Love First replied!
@@ShotByMyles replied back with more questions 😂
Hi Myles,
I am currently doing your colour grading course (which is amazing btw) but just wanted to know how to colour grade a moving subject i.e bride walking down the aisle. The subject moving often means the lighting changes as they get closer to the camera. How would you grade this and get the correct exposure? Thanks
Hi Joe, thanks for the kind words! That sounds like a tough situation but honestly my first thought would be to consider doing one grade based on how it looks for most of the shot and then letting the other parts happen.
It’s tough to call it without seeing it but that’s what I’d probably do. If you tried to change the grade mid-shot it might look strange and unnatural.
The only other option you have is to put a shape mask over the subject and key frame that to move with them, but unless it’s done very very subtly I think that would also look strange.
If we’re talking about major changes in light as they walk down the aisle I would do option 1 and pick one overall grade that works the best and let it play out like that. Viewers won’t know any better and can’t expect perfect exposure in uncontrolled conditions!
Shot by Myles thank you, appreciate your response!
Couldn't find any free Natural luts 🥺 can you help with this ?
Thank you
Sure! Click the link in the description of this video to take you to my store (I think it’s the third link down), then scroll down on the store page until you see the Natural LUT, add it to your basket and add the code in as a coupon to get them free (I think it’s ‘FREEGIFT’)
Will the free LUTs work if I'm working in Premiere? Looks really nice. Thanks!
Absolutely yes! When you pick the LUT drop down menu there should be an option for 'Browse' where you select your own and my free ones will work.
If I'm using a Sony A7iii Which picture profile should I use to imply these luts for best results?
Hi! Honestly I wouldn’t use this LUT for an A7iii, it was designed specifically to deal with a particular GH5 picture profile and correct issues I had with it.
If you’re editing on Premiere I’d try the in built Fuji / Kodak LUTs :)
Can you paste the profile settings here please
you can see them at 0:53 in the video :)
Love the lut for the Natural profile, it just pulls out a little detail without saturating it. I have just subscribed to your channel and going through your videos, having only just got a GH5 it’s a great help. I did some clips in the 4x3 anamorphic mode, however cannot get Resolve to recognise the file, it downloads the audio but no video, any ideas?
Thanks a lot, glad it's helped! Are you using the free version of Resolve? If so, I don't think it works with 10 bit files (or at least the GH5's). I would try to transcode them in to another format that it would accept, perhaps ProRes or the Windows equivalent. Sorry I'm not an expert on Resolve but I would guess it's the 10 bit incompatibility of the free version.
Shot by Myles Thanks for that, yes it is the free version, I will look for an alternative although I’m getting ahead of myself as I’m not 100% comfortable with the 4K settings yet. So many options with the GH5. Thanks again.
IVE595 4x3 anamorphic is especially tricky with it being such a big file- it kills my editing machine! All the best :)
perfect
Thanks a lot!
are the luts also good for the gh4 ?
I haven't tested, but I imagine so! They're free with the code if you'd like to try, the Natural one may need reducing from full intensity to get the best results
