This was great; thanks for posting
Thanks for tuning in !
Looking forward to this!
Cool!
Gosh, this is great information and immensely helpful.
I myself am an ignoramus; please do not think I am even remotely suggesting otherwise!! I acknowledge that you know *exponentially* more than I do, Erick, and that's the understatement of the millennium.
But...I'm confused about one thing -- your statement that pre-21st-century scholars held a sort of naive(??) view of East/West ecclesiological understanding. TBH my husband earned his doctorate in Byzantine history way back in 1983, well before the early 21st century. But I don't *ever* remember him suggesting that there was some sort of unanimous, monolithic understanding of ecclesiology between East and West in the first millennium. Did I hear you correctly? Is that what you are saying? I mean, I'm sure that scholarship always gets more and more nuanced and refined as time goes on. But I don't think Byzantinists held such a simplistic view before the 21st century. Can you cite some of the pre-21st-century scholars who held such a view, if that's indeed what you are saying? Thanks in advance, sincerely. I am genuinely confused. Thanks!
Excellent comment.
