      Guess you could say the master chief is the spirit of justice to save humanity and bring down the covenant that try to eradicate humanity.
      Doom guy/ Doom slayer is the spirit of vengeance, seeking revenge on hell for taking everything away from him, his comrades, his family, and his pet Daisy.
      Both make their marks in their worlds, while both chief and the slayer are very different, one can't help if their roles were reverse, chief would've followed the path of torment and the slayer protecting earth no matter the cost.

    I know I’m late to the party, but I feel like the whole Inferno motif goes one level further. Inferno ends with Dante and Vergil descending down Satan’s body and emerging at the base of the mountain of Purgatory at dawn on Easter Sunday. The last level is Rookie, Buck, Dare, and Virgil emerging from the Data Hive at dawn, and ascending away from Hell.

This perfectly fits the time for the mission "Coastal Highway" which takes place at dawn on October 21st 2552, which is also a Saturday.

    You could also say that Veronica Dare is an equivalent to Beatrice. Beatrice was the love of Dante’s life, although his love for her was unrequited. Beatrice however is also present as a character in the divine comedy, who Dante has to pass through the realms of the afterlife in order to reach her. Where Beatrice eventually guides Dante in paradise. Dare is a character the player has to journey to reach her and is the love interest of Buck aswell. You could say that at the end of the game when they take off in the phantom that they are escaping from hell and flying toward heaven. Having completed their journey through hell.

    If I remember correctly there's actually a mention of Dantes Inferno in Ghost of Onyx when Kurt and them reach the planets core where the portal to the dyson sphere is. Not sure if that's related but could be worth looking in to if someone wants. On another note for the 4 types of betrayers, there are 4 characters on the last level. Guest, Country, Kin and Benefactor. I think the Engineer is actually more a betrayer of country since the covenant is an alliance but also a nation, Dare is the betrayer of guest since she ups and abandons Alpha 9, who are under her command, in favor of achieving her mission, while Buck "pops smoke" in the mission abandoning it in favor of saving his squad making him the betrayer of benefactors (UNSC in this case). Now that leaves the Rookie to be the betrayer of kin, which could be him aiding Dare with her mission instead of linking up with the rest of the squad, or him killing the cop in data hive, but also in Halo Evolutions Im guessing he killed some other ODSTs, as theres a story thats being told by a veteran ODST to him about how he joined up and such but also that later on in the war a group of ODSTs were planning on stealing a bunch of gold or something for retirement but he foiled that plan and was on the run when he ran into the Rookie, and that the other ODSTs would be coming to kill him and the Rookie now that he knew their crimes/secret, so he probably did end up killing other ODSTs to stay alive. Whether any of this holds any truth to it though I cant say for certain but it does.make a certain amount of sense.

    • @kuronanestimare
      @kuronanestimare Před 2 lety +4

      Betrayer of Kin could potentially refer to the achievement 'Naughty Naughty' in that Rookie (the Player) cannot save Engineers. Even if you kill the entire squad around an Engineer, their bomb suit will go off and kill them. By engaging the Covenant, you are indirectly responsible for the death of any Engineer in the vicinity. The only way to avoid this is to avoid combat in open areas where Engineers are most likely to have spawned. The Engineers are Kin in that they do not wish to serve the Covenant, they are dying in this war to the Covenant just as we are.

Basically they might just be a method of writing where the two symbols are the topic of digestion, the line between says they are related, and the one above is the solution or end point of the sentence. umm, rather than logic gates they look more like a sign from a very, very old type of machine programming language (think back to the punch card days of the '50's). i vaguely remember being taught that it's something like an if/else function in C++, with the right way of reading being counter-clock-wise, so you'd start bottom left. if bottom left is invalid, it goes top. if that's invalid, then bottom right. if that's invalid, then all 3 get executed as an error. though the sign is a bit off, since it's supposed to be 3 intersecting lines that DON'T touch and a dot in the middle. or at least it's what we were taught the logic schema for the sign was.

    • @ltntwafflz9043
      @ltntwafflz9043 Před 3 lety +11

      The ODST's really felt like re-skinned Spartans to me. From what I remember, the only substantial differences being that they are shorter (I think), move slower (maybe), can't hijack certain vehicles, and deal less melee damage (especially to vehicles). I really wish the suppressors worked that way I could at least kind of play stealthily.

    • @MatthewSmith-sz1yq
      @MatthewSmith-sz1yq Před 3 lety +5

      The suppressors are fairly realistic though. People think they are like the James Bond-style "compressed air" sound, when most suppressors only dampen the sound, so instead of being a super loud gunshot, it's just a slightly quieter but still loud gunshot. If you have even a high-quality suppressor, and you shoot, everyone around you will hear it. It just won't be as likely to cause hearing damage, and the neighborhood next to you might not hear it.
      The closest people have came to a true "silencer" was the Welrod, used by British spies in WW2. The suppressor had special rubber baffles in it, and the holes in the rubber was smaller than the bullet. This basically formed a seal around the bullet as it passed through the suppressor, and by doing this multiple times, they got the Welrod to be absurdly quiet. The only problem was that all that friction meant the bullets travelled significantly slower, and would seriously impact the bullet's accuracy. It also meant the suppressor only worked for a few shots, then the rubber would become stretched or break, and wouldn't work as well.
      Even if, with modern material science, we could make a sort of "rubber baffle" similar to what they had in the Welrod that was much stronger and lasted longer, there is still the issue of accuracy and reduction in velocity. The Welrod's effective range was extremely limited, basically being reserved to within 10 feet of the target. That just doesn't seem practical for combat.

    Imagine a darker ODST, where you still drop in and lose your squad, but as you’re following the clues that lead you to them, you realize as they’re struggling to get out of the city things progressively get worse. You find things that don’t seem that bad at first, it starts out like our version of ODST, but as time goes on you find more and more gruesome scenes. Eventually you come upon one of your squadmates, dead. They were trying to escape the city with the squad; but they weren’t fortunate enough to make it far. You keep on, but after a few hours… another dead teammate. You eventually come to realize you’re the last one, and rescue isn’t coming.

    I'm fairly sure I know what the peice of the puzze relating to the Glyphs is: I heard from another peice of youtube breakdown (can't remember the video, sorry) that the dude who incorporated the glyphs has been asked often what they are about; revealing little. Yet at some point, apparently he was quoted saying that they mean nothing and were merely designed to get players that too look deeper into games and the worlds they are exploring.
    After seeing this video my conclusion is the Glyphs are simply meant to show us exactly what this video is about: the hidden meaning of ODST.

    28:00 you said "betrayers of country" and I have a take on this point. A country can be as big as it expands, legally. So it can be as small as the US state of Rhode Island, a third of a continent like Canada, the US, and Russia (or bigger in the USSR's case), entire continent like Australia. With this in mind, you could have a nation/state/country occupy all land, sea, airspace, and space-space of an entire planet, including any moons and space stations in orbit. Justifying this "legally owned" territory as one country (just broken into regions of planets, continents, regions, states, counties, districts, etc), it can be argued that Covenant owned and occupied Planets are within the "country" of the Covenant Empire, especially Sangheilios, Te, Doisac, Bahalo, etc. So who betrayed their country? The covenant betrayed the Sangheili, part of their country, their empire. Or this could be flipped and said that the Sangheili betrayed the Covenant for the Schism and thus, their bodies litter the streets of New Mombasa.

    Daaaaamn. This is deep. This is heavy. I haven't read Inferno but I have a passing knowledge of it and struth, it's very cleverly done.
    The glyphs: what if they're a code? Possibly a substitution sypher? But then, what's the correct order, and are there enough or too many variations of glyphs for a complete alphabet. If it is a substitution sypher, glyphs will be repeated. The most common letter in the alphabet is E, making up 14% of all letters used in the English language, so if there's a glyph that's more common it may be E.
    Other then that, they could be numbers or equations, again as a sub sypher.

    28:00 Here's my humble take:
    Betrayers of Country: H3ODST takes place during the events of Halo 2 and the Great Schism. The Sangeheili split from the Covenant, hence why they aren't seen in the game (put on ice).
    Betrayers of Guests: This could swing either to the Sangeheili or Jiralhanae. The Sangeheili betrayed the guests in the covenant, being the Jiralhanae due to their "newness" relative to the Sangeheili in the alliance, but the Jiralhanae were the overall Betrayers who WERE guests in the situation.

    28:05 although it specifically says guests, even back in Dante’s day they would still believe in the sacred duty of hospitality between guests and host. New Mombasa played ‘host’ to the Covenant, who in turn destroyed it and would come back to further scorch Earth in their pursuit of their goals and desires, thus breaking sacred hospitality and betraying humanity (for the Nth time but who’s counting?) a little thin I know, but it kinda works.

    • @FlameDarkfire

    Mayhaps the last two bits, betrayer of country and betrayer of guests represents Buck and Dare themselves: Dare was serving her country; and so the ODST's were her (and by extension, ONI's) guests. Buck immediately after that slipsace jump decides to abandon Dare's mission to try save his team. Example of him betraying country. Dare is serving her country yet the ODST team are her guests and she betrays them by refusing to let them in on the mission and trust them to keep their hush (even though they are professional ODST's and Def's would have run in there for the good of humanity; albeit with a few questions asked).
    Idk but from the way you broke that down that's all I can summise for the betrayers.

While listening to every song in halo for splitting into playlists for my halo mythic campaign i was focusing on how unique the odst music was compared to all the other soundtracks and how each piece was unique to the others in said soundtrack. Wouldn't it make sense for the glyphs to be music related? "music transcends language" and all that plus Martin O'Donnell being one of the few to know the secrets of ODST, and i imagine in universe it would be the Engineers writing the glyphs, since they seem like they'd be the only ones capable of it, and with how smart but almost childishly playful they appear in the books they would definitely be the only ones to try and communicate in such a way.

    They had to use a Y shape
    That's also the shape that people die as they hang from the crucifix
    You mentioned that the engineers (some of them) when found dead can have the Y carved near them
    Also where the elites were dead
    I believe it can be a symbol of death
    Death is a big thing throughout the game

    Wouldn't Mickey count as a traitor for the 9th ring? In the comics/books he betrayed the UNSC by joining the insurrection making him a "traitor to country." In addition, he was also in-directly responsible for the Rookies death by the United Rebel Front In Halo: New Blood. The Rookie was a person that Mickey fought beside for years, cared for Mickey, and even saved Mickey's life. I would count the Rookie as Mickey's "Lord" as well as the rest of Bucks Squad; they also outrank him giving a literal sense to the whole "Lord" thing. Mickey later joined the United Rebel Front after Rookies death on Draco III, spitting on what's left of the Rookies memory, betraying Alpha Nine, and even going as far as attempting to murder Buck and Romeo. I would say this betrayal counts as the 4th ring of the 9th Circle, Judecca "treason to their lords", he betrayed multiple "Lords", and abandoned all that he, his service in the UNSC, and the Rookie stood for. Then for the final kicker, he was never truly punished for it, later joining back up with the Alpha Nine, showing no real remorse for his actions besides apologizing for trying to shoot Buck and Romeo at the time. I'm sure in the future we'll get some book about Mickey's death, and my money is on him hanging himself, just like Judas.

      @@jhinwick5251 He may have been forgiven, but that still doesn't eliminate the fact that he'd betrayed them in the first place. If we're still talking the whole Christian religious theme thing, I'm pretty sure the fact that Buck forgave him wouldn't save him from the wrath of good ol' Yahweh. Two counts of attempted murder and an undisclosed amount of actual murder with the URF would not be looked upon kindly by MOST religions, let alone Christianity which has a strong history of being dogmatic in its practices and beliefs. Even if he begs for forgiveness from God and is actually forgiven, that is still unlikely to change his final destination of hell if it actually exists in the Halo universe. Eldritch horrors are very fickle when it comes to fleshy meat bags breaking cosmic rules literally set in stone.
