  • A quick BREAK-DOWN at the career of one of the baddest Jackson brothers.
Jermaine Jackson is one of the smoothest singers one has ever heard. He had more duties than his brothers in the Jackson Five, he was one of the backbones to the group; he is truly an "Unsung" musician.
Who were better The Jackson 5 or The Wootens?

I disagree. He was not a better singer than Michael. Nor is he in the top tier of the best male vocalists of all time. But.. to his credit, his voice was the butter to the Jackson 5 sound. When he left the group, that lush harmony they had left as well. To put it better, Michael was the pancakes of the group. Jermain was the syrup. Though he can sing, he can be pitchy at times. But still a legend and one of the most recognizable voices in music.

Thank you for your comment sir, but it seems a bit paradoxical. You say, Jermaine is not even top tier of male vocalist of all times, but you end your text with he's a legend and one of the most known voices in music. How can he not be a top tier singer and a legend in the same speech? The real question to you is, name me a famous black singer that is 60 years or over that still can sing and sounds good other than Lionel Ritchie, Mr.Ron Isley and Jermaine Jackson? And who do you know like pancakes without the syrup?

Jermaine is my favorite Jackson. To be able to play those difficult Motown bass riffs James Jamerson played and be able to dance at the same time at the age of 10 is just incredible. The make it look so easy. I watch the Jackson 5 live performances all the time on CZcams and I'm always amazed by his playing. He inspired me to pick up a bass and learn most of the Jackson 5 songs. I watched every Jermaine interview but no one ever ask him about him bass playing. I wish CZcams would upload all those clips from Soul Train playing bass and acoustic. Thank you for this great content!

@DeVante Cooley Jermaine said it best when he admitted to having been jealous of Michael, it was more than just a brief moment of anger; I wudnt be surprised if Jermaines marrying Hazel Gordy, and his decision to stay at Motown was part of this competition with Michael, the Jacksons are a successful, competitive, clan, even Michael, in the 90s, showed a lil bit of sibling jealousy towards Janet. Jermaines crossing over to Randys girl, was a no, no. It comes as no surprise, Jermaine is now the family spokesman; "my brother Michael" but he seems to question MJs childrens claim to inheritance, many times, he reminds us, Michael wud have been nothing without the J5. As for LA Reid & Baby Face; MJ, like JB, was more inclined to music with a pulsating, captivating, drum beat.

Two different styles but both great! I agree that Jermaine was definitely underrated & did mot receive the recognition that he should have....due to the outbreak of his younger brothers artistry & talent with his solo music, songs, videos, etc....And for the record, as was stated in this awesome video, Joe Jackson, the father of the Jackson 5, definitely discovered his own children's talents....& he taught them everything they know....NOT Berry Gordy & Diana Ross & Motown! @HouseOfPurrrrr Před 5 měsíci +3

That's 100% a myth and can be easily proven wrong with facts.
From 1965-1974, the live lineup of the Jackson 5 remained unchanged. It was Jackie- percussion/vocals, Michael-vocals, Marlon-vocals, Tito-guitar/vocals, Jermaine-bass guitar, vocals, Ronnie Rancifer-keyboards and Johnny Jackson (no relation) on drums. By the time that the J5 arrived at Motown, they had thousands of hours of rehearsals and gigs under their belt being a live band. Berry Gordy rehearsed them as a self contained live band and NEVER sent them out with supplemental musicians on tour (they did provide occasional horns and/or strings for television appearances like Johnny Carson or the Jerry Lewis telethon but NEVER supplemental bass or guitar players)
For proof of these facts, I would suggest you listen to the "Live at the Forum 1970-1972" double CD. which shows this original live lineup of the J5 at the peak of its powers. The liner notes from this CD detail Jermaine's bass playing in detail and you can actually hear how his bass playing improved from '70-72. (his bass playing on the 2nd disc is ridiculously ferocious).
For visual proof, here's rare footage of the j5 soundchecking. There are plenty of shots of Jermaine playing a plugged in bass where his fingers are matching the notes that are being heard: czcams.com/video/_Fk84O8dPqI/video.htmlsi=SoJOkQoWl31Ivj6x
For more (better quality) proof, here's footage from the J5 live in 1971 in Indiana. There are plenty of crystal clear shots of Jermaine playing his Candy Apple Red Fender Jazz through his Acoustic stack and his fingers are completely in sync with the bass notes that you are hearing. If you can't see that he is playing live here, you simply do not have a deep understanding of the bass guitar: czcams.com/video/6EtxrIpyuQY/video.htmlsi=vbQTRdMw7gRqgHBv
If you still need more proof of J.J's prowess on bass, here's a clip of him playing and singing "Let's Get Serious" live on Arsenio from 1991:czcams.com/video/JeapaltJEx4/video.htmlsi=sX-I7xgElblCbMaq

@@lynwoodme8558 acts on American Bandstand was always lip-synch. Whether you’re Elton John, Michael Jackson, David Bowie or Kool And The Gang……there never was a live performance on American Bandstand, ever. I performed on Dick Clark Rockin’ New Year’s Eve, and that’s his policy. All lip-synch all the time. Try again

Reading is fundamental!! I said listen to Tito guitar... he's dancing n singing... his guitar definitely has a wah on it, yet he's not in a foot pedal. I'm really tired of talking to you. I have played with Johnny ronny. Johnny's cousin lives with Sean Jackson( 1st cousin to j5) he stated the had a guitar n bass player offstage, in their concerts!! Please, please don't bother me anymore!! PLEASE!!
