  • A fiery end to desert exercises... 🗡
#RoyalMarines have put the seal on desert exercises with an intensive five-day battle in California alongside allies across one of the largest military training areas in the world.
The conclusion of the exercises, known as Green Dagger, was five days of gruelling warfighting which saw allied forces - from the US, Canada, United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands and UK - join forces to take on a highly-equipped US Marine Corps adversary.

There seems to be a bit of confusion on how OPFOR consisting of Royal Marines forced US Marines to surrender. While that statement is partially true, OPFOR did not only consist of Royal Marines but; Dutch Marines, Canadian troops, US Army SOF ODA, hundreds of US Marine Infantrymen and US air support. So the idea that a platoon+ sized element of Royals single handedly did the job is a little far fetched lol. These training exercises with other nations are awesome though, I really think that integrated training with allies are good experience 🤙🏽

Canadian Troops weren't on one side they act as referees almost and give aid to both sides, the dutch barely sent anyone they took 100 maximum, its like saying the belgians did something during the battle of Imjim River, US Army SOF were there already alongside MARSOC but its a literal US Military base what are you expecting, the US Air Support and infantrymen were for the US ONLY the USMC were a full on war group with heavy weapons and air support hence the Behind Enemy Lines sort of raids. also the UAE literally did nothing, there's a post somewhere about an Ex US Marine sergeant, embarrassed by the excuses people have been using to back up the USMC. More proof is the fact the USMC are turning down most recruits now unless they have the similar state of mind ad the RMC. they only did this AFTER what happened.

You guys have a fine military to be proud of, but this wasn't the Royal Marines single handedly takes down the USMC "victory" is being propagated as. For starters, the Commandos were attached to a USMC unit. Dial it down.
And if you've been following it, changes to the USMC have been in the works for a while and are ongoing, looking at 2030 to take final form. They've gotten rid of their tanks, lengthened and updated infantry training, are creating new littoral regiments, and are generally looking to be a more nimble, specialized force. Iirc they studied the Royal Marines, but also the USMC reconnaissance community and the 75th Ranger regiment.

The British performance in Basra is us not fighting but attempting to win hearts instead, I've always had this conspiracy theory in the back of my mind. That the UK is tryna make up for the atrocities our empire committed hence why even in Ireland we'd try to negotiate with the IRA, looking at the middle east same prospect and the same thing. Look Pre 80s, we didn't care, we steamrolled everything and everyone without a care, then the 90s hit.

The media liked to paint this as a victory for the Brits. "haha look at the Americans with all their equipment" 🙄
But ultimately, its training. The whole point is to prepare for the real thing. To make mistakes in training and make everyone involved better. As a nation we fight alongside the American Military the most. And if our guys can help our American allies improve and learn new tactics. Then its a win win for both our nations forces.
I daresay our guys learnt things from the US Marines as well. But the stupid UK Media wont bother reporting that.

As to whether or not the RM is a more 'rewarding' career it's far too subjective to say. What is easy to say is that you'll be joining the service which is statistically hardest to achieve so in that sense it's the 'best'.
If you want to join next year's Young Officer Batch though you'd better get a move on, you'll need to complete the process by July to make the intake in September and you're already a bit late to make that happen.
