  • The Gerald R. Ford-class carriers are designed to be the most technologically advanced and capable aircraft carriers in the world. They are larger and more advanced than the previous Nimitz-class carriers, and feature a number of new technologies, including a new nuclear power plant, a redesigned flight deck, and an electromagnetic aircraft launch system (EMALS) that replaces the traditional steam catapults used on previous carriers.
The Gerald R. Ford-class carriers are expected to remain in service for 50 years or more, and are expected to be the centerpiece of the U.S. Navy's carrier strike groups for decades to come.

If it just worked out of the gate there wouldn't be much of anything new or different. The first of anything, especially something as complex as an aircraft carrier class, can be expected to have problems. Once solved though production of future ships of the same class can be streamlined as the Nimitz class is retired. Prototypes are typically vastly more expensive than the final product, doesn't really matter what you're making. The cost and time needed to get it right pays for itself over time many times over.

Thanx for pointing this out. This ship specifically and the f35s often get heavily criticized for having, like you said, common issues in the early production years of any product. especially a highly advanced weapon of war. Also you have to learn how to use the product you created correctly. The best technique to utilize its full potential and this takes time. F35s are nuts and they are just infants. When they meet their potential they are just going to be scary.

When 1st proposed CVN78 had a cost estimate of 19 B $ with R&D included. WoW I thought. But after I learned of the EMALS and linear motor elevators it made sense. It got some bad press. Even Trump knocked on a visit and asked the crew wether EMALS or steam Cats were better. That was inappropriate for 45 to question anything in public and the crew. But eventually they resolved the new tech issues as usual. So the rest of the Ford Class will get similar builds. But also bear in mind improvements will be made as running changes to current builds as they were to Nimitz class.
The ammount of design difference from Nimitz class is Hugh. Naval engineers strive to ensue that the 1st in a class of new ships and in particular carriers have as little as possible hiccups. Doesn't always work that way though. Good job anyway I'd say.

@@donnthesovereigncitizen1577 Jury's still out on PRCs new carrier. It'd not fully fitted out yet and has to do sea trials. Crewing and operation will be a hard learning curve also.
I'd like to see what it is capable of and can do. One thing with the PRC, they won't admit to any problems. The USA I'd very open with some things to a varying degree. So you think the PRC will report any issues if there are any issues? I don't think so. 4:45

An ignorant mainstream media gets a cheap sensationalist 15 second story to tell; reporting on waste, delays, corruption, & the unavoidable technology hiccups & initial failures that inevitably go along with bleeding-edge technology promises...that at least the US Military-Industrial Complex seems to be quite able to solve & subsequently overcome before TOO long. Unlike say, their trash-talking fascist adversaries who just jail their independent media for pointing that their own advanced technology either doesn't work (& never will🤣🤣🤣) or doesn't exist (like Nikita Khrushchev's fleet of supersonic long-range nuclear bombers. Anyone remember that?).
Now the clouds of war gather all around us, in plain sight of a world with its head firmly jammed up its ass, a day late & a dollar short AS USUAL & OF COURSE, still reeling from the after-effects of the Kung Flu global Pandemic, the realization of the limitations & shortcomings of the "Just In Time" & Neo-Conjob Neo-Fiberal "globally integrated economy", & even the repercussions of the 2008 financial crisis, the Crime of the Century where we were all conned & swindled into bailing out the rich criminals who created it because they were deemed (by themselves!👹) to be "too big to fail", & with the handouts & WHOREpoRATe welfare that our governments continue to dole out to them in ever-increasing amounts, now therefore continue to hold the global real-estate market hostage with unaffordable prices & and the resulting economic dislocation that has only served to greatly widen the gap between the rich & the poor...
Given how Western Democracy has for the last 40 years done nothing but lie to us about the evils of Unions, Socialism,(you can see how it's ruining those 💩🕳️ countries in Scandinavia, Canada, Germany, Israel, etc.🤨) & "excessive regulation"; & then subsequently destroy the middle class & send working people on a chase to win the "Race To The Bottom", mostly by ignorantly transferring wealth to the very tyrants like Xi Jen Peng who planned on using that wealth to build up their own military capabilities in order to destroy us, you can kind of see why the average slob can't tell who's a dangerous criminal & who isn't, & acts like he hardly cares if Iran or North Korea or "Communist" China or the Orcs of RuZzia take over the world.
I mean, will the average slob actually be any worse off than we are under the current epic mismanagement & criminality of our "democratic" economic & political elites?

Bullshit, they overadvertised hypersonics look ant kindzals al least 83% shot down by missile defence. Carriers are fast and in constant movement and hypersonics are too fast to change course well into the flight only small corrections can be made, first launch has to be perfect. And i bet 1 wont destroy such a well designed ship. Maybe a few. Obvious russian propaganda
