  • Joe knew there was something wrong. After coming to Johns Hopkins he was finally diagnosed with cancer of the tongue. Learn how head and neck cancer surgeon Wojtek Mydlarz and facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon Shaun Desai surgically removed his cancer and rebuilt Joe’s tongue using a free flap from his forearm with no need for radiation. My daughter had this same surgery a year ago in Gainesville FL. She was only 29 at the time. It was the hardest thing as a parent to watch your child go through. So brave and so strong through it all. She remains cancer free now for a little over a year. Thank god for doctors that can accomplish such miracles.

I'm so happy for you! i go for my biopsy on 9/28/20. i can't afford the biopsy due to no insurance, but I have to know because its been months and the sores are not good. If anything more than the biopsy is needed I wont be able to do anything, so its good to see people with a happy ending

I have to get a tongue biopsy at the orders of my GP. Divot on tip of tongue that came out of nowhere. That took a few weeks to heal and now the burning is spreading along the outer edges of the tongue. I am being a wuss about the biopsy pain. 😅

i had the surgery done the day before Thanks Giving 2019 a total glossectomy and a flap and as of today I'm still on a feeding tube with what should have been the tip of my new tongue anchored to my lower gums swallowing is difficult to say the least eating by mouth or normally hasn't happened yet they can save you from cancer that's what they do i'm hoping to see other doctors that can fix this and my ability to speak but for eating by mouth is the most important part to me. I wish her the best. Sincerely Ron.
