    As a woman who is a fan of the WNBA and women’s sports in general, I agree with a lot of the points you make here Alex.
    Firstly, I agree that trying to guilt trip people into watching women’s sports is a terrible way to grow the game and only dilutes the real value of what the players have to offer. There is always going to be the extreme minority of people who believe women shouldn’t play sports, but this is not the main reason for any lack of commercial success. As much as we love to see the absolute best of the best players compete against each other, that isn’t the only way people gain enjoyment from sports. People love college, high school, and even amateur level sports because seeing people compete at their best will always be entertaining. Women will never be men, and there is no point in trying to compare them. Serena Williams is one of the greatest tennis players of all time, but it makes no sense trying to compare her to a Federer because there is simply a biological difference that can’t be changed.
    Nevertheless, sports is a business, and if you create an entertaining product, people will watch. The WNBA has an advantage of being a highly exclusive league that plays basketball at a time when the nba season has mostly concluded. If they focus on highlighting the amazing personalities (which do exist if you’ve ever seen Aja Wilson play or speak) and creating a strong narrative story around the best players and teams, it can succeed.

      With all due respect I think people quickly forget how much of an advantage men have in curtain sports. Without seeing Alex play, anyone who’s been hooping their entire lives and can dunk the ball at 6’1 ( as a white guy too) is probably gonna be able to beat most professional women in one on one. The defensive pressure alone is enough to secure the bag and she’s not locking him down. He has her beat in every category except shooting. There’s a massive skill gap and people forget that when they watch her drain 3s from the logo on other girls.

And don’t get me wrong I’m competitive, I don’t care who I’m against I want to win. This is the issue I’m trying to bring up, Alex identifies all the basketball capabilities of catlin plain and simple. He’s confident in his ability, should he not be? Until people accept the fact that women and men are different in many ways, both having and edge of the other in different areas, people will victimize themselves and other women. By throwing the word sexism out anytime you disagree or refuse to accept what someone has to say about the biological difference between men and women, you are in turn victimizing women as a whole and humiliating other women that have worked hard to become the best in their women’s sports. Women refusing to make changes to the game to allow women’s sports to become more entertaining to defend their own ego is only the fault of their own. Sports that are highly dependent on teams and intense physical activity and technique are mainly dominated by men. Take soccer for example. Women’s soccer is extremely lackluster. From the touch of the players, the shot power, stamina and especially the intensity and defending, it’s extremely unenjoyable for someone to watch a regular season game. It’s not to say that those women aren’t good athletes, because they are and they worked hard to get to the top, but for soccer fans or die hard fans of soccer, it’s unwatchable. For casual viewers it’s very enjoyable. We need to stop comparing men and women sports and embrace the fact they are different and both have different strengths. Men and women are different but equal. People that say stuff like what Alex mentioned aren’t sexist or saying women aren’t equal to men and men are superior, they are just explaining that men and women are different, BUT EQUAL. That’s all. People need to just stop turning it to fit their agenda and victimizing themselves. That is not how women’s sports will succeed.

      For example if someone is faster, jumps higher, and is overall better than you at the sport than they have more skill.

      @brrazzy8417 Před 2 měsíci +2

      It’s arguable. I played against a WNBA player before and I beat her damn near every time. I played against NBA and overseas players in 5 on settings and actually went toe to toe. From my experiences at least for women depends on position, men on the other hand regardless of position they play have skill cuz of the competition

    • @Jaybiv
      @Jaybiv Před 2 měsíci +3

      Nah, it's not just strength. Skill is correct. It doesn't undermine anything, you just have insecurity or ego issues if the facts make you feel undermined somehow. It doesn't mean "women flat out suck at sports" bc that's not true. But when it comes down to the numbers, it's a clear cut answer. And when Alex was talking about the many cases where world class women's athletes are beaten by 15 year old boys, it really drives the point home. 15 and under boys do not have have a substantial strength advantage over grown, world class female athletes.

    People are going to be upset as long as they misunderstand reality. Human beings admire different things about women than they admire about men (and vice versa). You mentioned Ronda Rousey-Rousey didn’t just light the world on fire because she was a good fighter; she was also really attractive (especially early on), appearing in body magazines and on bedroom posters. People love to watch gymnastics and figure skating and beach volleyball when the Olympics come along…why? Because most of the athletes are beautiful. Women’s tennis-look at some of the beautiful women who play tennis. And you can see this all throughout life…not just in sports. Women singers and actresses usually have to be beautiful to succeed; this isn’t true for men. Women CEOs and even politicians wear makeup and beautify their hair and all that, whereas men can get away with a lot less. This isn’t just some coincidence or matter of preference-it reflects deep psychological realities about how people see women and what they want from them. It also works in women’s favor: a woman who is especially beautiful can gain notoriety in her field even with a lower level of skill than a man could ever hope to. Look at someone like Anna Kournikova. Obviously she was a great player, but she won zero singles titles and was never ranked top five in her entire career, but she became a household name as a tennis player. Why? You don’t have to think too hard about it.
    On this issue (and a lot of others), people would be a lot happier if they would just look honestly at reality and quit trying to force, guilt trip, and argue the world into being something it’s not. Women have a unique capacity for beauty, just like men have a unique capacity for athleticism. People admire greatness when they see it. So: women are admired for their beauty and men are admired for their athleticism. It’s not really all that hard to understand.

The reason why women's sports make less money is very clear.. its because not as many people watch it because its boring (not that I watch sports myself but I'd rather watch mens sports than women's) and that's not because we're all sexist, misogynists... no, its because sports are designed to be a man's game; they're aggressive, masculine and dare I say, more professional at these sports. Its like getting offended over someone stating the clear facts that a man is stronger and faster than a woman and to further state just how obvious this reality is, regarding being faster - a top track female runner posted to TikTok about how some random guy off the street wasn't as fast as her and yet he was just a few feet behind her.. NEARLY beating her in her own 50 meter warm up and he was a RANDOM GUY, she was a TOP RUNNING ATHLETE in the US if im not wrong. No one would rather watch wnba games over nba games because they are just not as good and it’s just not as good it’s that simple

    I have a bit of a different point of view. I played singles badminton on a competitive level with both men and women. (I’m a female) not only are their different level of athleticism (the men’s smashes were 100% stronger) but their like whole different games. Against men it’s a lot of offence defence, against women it’s a lot of individual strategy. I found that their were more time before points in women’s games. It’s really interesting. I think maybe a reason to why men’s teams beat women’s teams is because their used to the way that they play, and when they play against their norm it’s different. Idk just a different point of view.
