As a romanian, this is our most shameful act in our entire history. One of my great grandfathers fought on the Eastern Front and mentioned he felt nothing when commiting these kind of atrocities, from some of the letters he sent home back to my great grandmother. He was KIA in February 1945. Useless to say that finding and reading these letters made me sick to my stomach and with a profound sense of hate and disbelief that he was a relative of mine. I pray that such episodes will remain singular and we will never have to see them unfold again.

His thoughts were that they were doing the world a favor by liquidating the jews and the Slavic people. He wrote down that with "jews it was just following orders, but with the slavic people, it was personal".

I live in the village of Dalnik. There is a small monument in the middle of a field, where the people were executed. It is in the ravine where they shot them so it would be easier to bury them. When I first found the memorial I remembered the stories that my grandmother told me as a kid and I just sat there crying for some time. It is very beautiful there and silent in the summer. The birds are singing and the skies are blue. But when you stand there... Man it's tough And look where the world is heading. Humanity is doomed. Too much anger and greed in people. Let's never forget otherwise there is no hope
