Namor's a weird character Marvel has. He never really fit in with the Silver Age despite being one of the characters that allowed the company to survive into the 60s. They also took some themes from him and expanded on it with other characters: T'Challa is a noble prince himself, The Hulk shares Namor's antipathy for humanity, Tony Stark is as pompous and arrogant if not more so, Thor has one foot in two clashing worlds.
And yet he's rarely touched and it seems that Marvel just didn't know what to do with him and ended up flanderizing him like hell with his lust for Sue Storm. I wonder if they'll try to pull a Namor movie since Aquaman was a surprise box office smash even if they'll be accused of copying DC with the character even though Namor came first.
If anyone can recommend me some good comic runs with the character please, let me know. I always love a good read. - Komedie
His name was “Roman”, spelled backwards, and he and his realm were intended to be an allegorized Roman Empire among the barbarians.
Oddly, Dr. Doom launching a skyscraper into the sun seems like the most sane and coherent plot in all of this.

@Alezander2002 So did those 1970's Super Friends cartoons. Both villains and heroes announced their next moves while the other side just stood there and WAITED for said hero/villain to act.

One thing not mentioned was that accomplished character Actor John Vernon (Dean Wormer) of Animal House fame was the voice of Namor. As well as Tony Stark/Ironman and Major Glen Talbot in the Hulk segments.

Namor is an underrated character. These days, it’s all about Aquaman.
Aquaman is the flavor of the time being but when they make a Namor film it will make people forget about Aquaman .

Namor was the first Marvel hero to get my attention when I was a lad. Running around barefoot in nothing but trunks seemed extremely badass to me...
Man he provides commentary on his fights like no other, and never forgets to tell us how amazing he is in the process.

If Marvel's Inhumans hadn't been such a gigantic catastrophe from the very beginning, I'd bet good money that Namor would end up showing up as some point in the show. But alas, that'll never happen.

Gotta love the animation how they actually scale down Namor's hand when foreshortening his entire arm, so the closer his hand gets to the camera; the smaller it becomes.

This is simply amazing work! The scripts and stories are classic Stan Lee and the animation technique is fascinating. Way beyond most cartoons.

When I was a kid in the early 1970s the local TV stations would re-run these 60s shows like Namor, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Iron Man, and my absolute favorite, Spider-Man. Miss watching those shows even though they do appear dated now.

Now I recommend you do Aquaman when you have the time, not because of Namor or Momoa; just because your videos have inspired me to watch even more 60s cartoons and I've laughed my arse off at everything in just the one episode, especially pretty much anything Black Manta had to say.

It still boggles my mind that this is the same voice as Rupert Thorne (BTAS) and Dr. Strange (Spider-Man TAS).
I must say,out of all cartoons that used the prints of the comics to make an animation,Namor had the best.
Not a fan of the early years but I really love The Sub Mariner of the 60's & 70's. I get a kick out of how loyal Marvel was to Namor. They always believed in & treated Namor with the utmost respect even though he wasn't as popular as the other superheroes.

The Avenging Son is actually the translation of his name (Namor). Namor's last name (on the surface world) is McKenzie.
Frank Welker and Casey Kasem were the voice-over kings of cartoons in the 1960s and '70s. Oh yeah and also Mel Blanc of course.

With the blockbuster aquaman movie i am stunned that marvel intertainment has not introduced and propelled namor.he is at the very least considering his 80 year history as interesting if not more so than arthur curry.been a fan of the sub mariner for at least 40 years.his time is now.
Me too, I was not exactly a fan of "Ant-man", so I would have liked to have seen what they would do with that.

LoL, this is great! I grew up on Marvel and had a huge collection a trunk full! Guy I worked with I would tell him I waiting for Marvel to make the Sub-Mariner movie and his reply was who's that? Told him Prince Namor was before Aqua-Man and kinda like DC's response for Sub-Mariner! Sorry for all you DC fans, I was a Marvel man!

Why would they give Doom that stupid looking mouth when he wears a metal helmet? They had a chance to animate less, and choose to make it look worse and slightly increase the amount of work they had to do.
