Django Unchained is a 2012 American revisionist Western film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, and Samuel L. Jackson, with Walton Goggins, Dennis Christopher, James Remar, Michael Parks, and Don Johnson in supporting roles. Set in the Old West and Antebellum South, it is a highly stylized, heavily revisionist tribute to Spaghetti Westerns, in particular the 1966 Italian film Django by Sergio Corbucci (the star of which, Franco Nero, has a cameo appearance). The story follows a black slave who trains under a German bounty hunter with the ultimate goal of reuniting with his long-lost wife.

That's a Trantino he makes villians that are just so damn characteristic that you can't help but a be captivated by them, no matter how evil they are.
I never understood why The Revenant was DiCaprio's movie. There wasnt much skill involved for that role and im confident 1000 other actors could have nailed it. But DiCaprio in this and sime of the other stuff? He should definitely have gotten an award. I hate that villains or unlikable characters make it hard to give the actor credit. Like Tom Hardy in The Revenant lol better acting but an unlikable character.

@@greywind5745 Possibly, but there have also been many examples of this in early French cinematography. So who knows where he first learned it from. EIther way, there are equally awesome chinese/japanese films. Tarantino films are some of my favourites though.

All of tarentinos movies are filled with tension and anxiety of where he will take the scene, which is why despite his strange behavior, everyone enjoys tarentino films, they are not predictable lame and repetitive as all the other Hollywood movies you can see

Love this movie. Tackles some of the most sensitive subjects while keeping extremely creative camera angles and almost making it feel like a cartoon. It's a really empowering movie

I remember seeing an interview where Samuel L Jackson talks about how Leo was struggling to be Mr candy infact he despised his character and wanted to soften the racism. Sam gave him a pep talk and words of wisdom. The next day di caprio came back on set he was a different person entirely. They said he didn't just flip a switch he damn near went beyond method acting

He's seen some tuff stuff but having to pretend to be deep into this world as Calvin was more than he could handle. Which is why he ended up killing candy at the end. But straight up slurs? Degrading, insulting, mocking and ridiculing a race of people that did nothing but have the misfortune to be born the "wrong" colour? That's not a step over the line. That's hitting the line with a TSAR bomb and calling it a day.
Imagine how scared Leo must have been about being cancelled over this. Even the interviewer who spoke to Samuel L Jackson refused to say "nigga" even after Samuel L Jackson straight up told him to, said it was fine, and that we can't talk about it if you're not willing to say it.

The acting in this movie was honestly amazing

Excellent movie. Excellent acting. Some really rough scenes about how it used to be. I often say I would like to go back to old west times but man this world would have chewed me up and spit me out. At 43 I’m still trying to figure out how my dad went to Vietnam at 19 as a green beret and survived after losing all of his men. Everyone blown up left for dead and he walked out of that jungle 9 months later. Recieved a Purple Heart. Recovered and went right back over there for almost the same thing to happen again. This country was built by strong men. Here I am struggling to raise my 12 year old son.
Vietnam was about control, invasion and trying to establish an empire, not for America's safety

This is a fictional movie. Of course there were cruel people like this but it wasn't the norm. Hell, there people just as cruel if not worse today.
I think it would be hard for someone raised in this day and age to adapt to what was going on back then. You’d stick out like a sore thumb
