    Australian rifle company Lithgow Arms has introduced a new rifle for the precision rifle shooting (PRS) market. Called the LA-105 Woomera (after an Australian aboriginal type of general purpose atlatl or spear thrower), it is based on the Lithgow Arms LA102 centerfire bolt action rifle, but further accurized and fitted with a Kinetic Research Group developed chassis that is similar to both the Whiskey-3 and X-Ray chassis. The chassis features a simpler stock like the X-Ray, but M-LOK mounting points on the forend similar to the Whiskey-3 and Bravo chassis.
    Initially, the LA105 Woomera will be released in two calibers, 6.5mm Creemoor to be released in the second quarter of 2018, and .308 Winchester in the third quarter of 2018. The LA105 Woomera sports the same cold hammer forged free floated barrel that gave Tom Gomez such good results in his review of the LA102. In 6.5mm, the barrels will come with a tight 1:8 twist rate common to other factory precision rifleofferings in the same caliber. In .308 Winchester, twist is the tried-and-true 1:10 rate that goes all the way back to the M1892 Springfield-Krag in .30-40 Army, allowing for stabilization of even long, low drag projectiles. Thanks to the chassis, the LA105 Woomera will use AICS magazines, rather than the Tikka T3 magazines of its predecessor.

    $2000 Australian, so sub 2K USD (approx. 1,600USD). Lithgow are working on a magnum version for 300 winmag and 338 lapua apparently.

    • @MindlessWanderings
      @MindlessWanderings Před 6 lety

      They'll probably add more later but being Australian they'll want to meet Australian demands first. Most competitions (and ranges) limit to 8mm (approx .315) or less. Some states won't let you have anything bigger unless you really need it.
      No many people bother with 300WM, hunters just use .308 because it's cheaper and more available than other large calibres. Also, a lot of competitions are still 223/308 only, so a 308 will do most jobs.
      As the LA102 already comes in .223, .243, and .308 I was hoping for some else too.

    UK wants a .303, US wants a 7mm mag... AU just wants a .223 for pest control... All I can say is, have fun Lithgow with all the wants..

    • @jameshealy4594
      @jameshealy4594 Před 6 lety

      I don't think .303 is a very popular cartridge for new rifles in the UK.... and I don't hear much about 7mm rem mag either.... .223 agreed, though the standard LA102 is more than enough for the ranges that round is capable of. No idea why anyone would want something this massive and expensive to shoot .223.

      The reason why is because of the local regulations. The features of the chassis in NSW would be reclassified as a prohibited firearm.
