  • We've been at capacity on storage in my 30x50 shop at my house for awhile now and it's finally time to fix that by building a pair of lofts for storage and an A/C'd hangout area with a racing simulator!

I think I'd put that air compressor out there to the pump house and run the line into the shop underground. You've got plenty of room for it since you cleaned it out! Then you won't have to hear that loud ass compressor running while your working! Im sure it's pretty loud inside that building! You'd have to move your 220 power out there but I think it would be well worth the time, money and effort! I freakin' HATE a loud ass compressor!

I installed hundreds of these units in Middle East. The trick is you need to install 1 inch slop down towards water drain hole,
Condensate water must drain as fast as possible and the only way to slop 1 inch no less no more. I get when you look at it,
It look like crooked or unprofessional installed it but that’s the way it works great. The reason air blower is so close any water it picks up and drops comes out. Good luck.

Don't forget to consider lighting under there, once the flooring is on, you will lose a lot of lighting from the overheads, a set of stairs on rollers with locking wheels that can be stowed away under the flooring would save on overall room, then you could use the 1 set of stairs for both sides? I’m a fourth year Architectural Engineering student and just thought I’d mention that the “beams” you’re referring to are actually columns (the vertical members). Beams would be the horizontal members of the floor essentially, which then end at the girders. The girders being the horizontal members between columns that all of the beams tie into! Hope I’ve taught some people a thing or two about structural engineering! Great vid and I can’t wait to see it finished with the hangout area!

  • @tylerbogaard375
    @tylerbogaard375 Před měsícem

One thing to consider that I thought of when you mentioned possibly moving the one mini-split is that you might still want to consider doing something for your AC up in the lofts. It's not a secret that heat rises and in a space with that much height, all of your cold air is going to hang out down low meaning your lofts could feel pretty warm. You could still move one of those wall fan coils up to the loft but it would probably be a bit complicated and honestly, not necessarily the best performing option since the lofts will be open and most the cool air will still just fall down to ground level. I'd consider looking into a large diameter ceiling fan for the middle of the shop(something like Big-Ass Fans) with a thermostat control. Those are pretty good at circulating the air to get a more even temperature throughout the space. It would most likely help the lofts and also could enhance the rest of the shop's comfort as well.

There are some diy filter boxes for the mr cool units that allow you to run a real fliter which you need in a shop setting. A good hepa filter for the ac units would help your whole garage and the ac units.

Cleaning split units was super common for me back home tropical climates will gunk them up really bad. The old school method is a sheet metal trough hung around the ac unit then using a pump bottle to spray clean the coils and fan. The humidity causes mold to build up really fast

Dude I've been looking forward to this since the first mention of the loft but seeing what you bought to do it with made it sooo much more awesome. That kit is just so perfect I thought you'd just build it yourself out of wood or metal but man a good well built kit like that powder coated and adjustable is so freaking nice and saves so much time and effort and I think the end result will just be so much better then you would have built from scratch "no offense" but also the fact that if you ever move you can take it with you or if you ever really change the shop up those things are basically modular to fit so many different ways. So I for one am so stoked to see the final result

You should include a motorized lift for the lofts. I bet you can fabricate it really easily. I have a 30x30 garage and looking to do that.

    Thinking out of the box
4 post mezzanine on the floor 10ft high second mezzanine floor 10ft then do a metal roof with metal trusses
Do a tiny home or another shop mail order nuts bolts and only concrete in a bucket on the corners
I’d make a exterior cover put the compressor outside
    Awesome content

Imagine all the mould spores those machines were blowing on you, I am surprised you both didn’t get really sick. Nice mezzanine kits for sure 👍

Maybe it's just me but I am not sure about something like this "exceeding expectations" is a good thing. For something like this, I would make sure I knew exactly what I was getting before committing. But it looks great and all's well that ends well. Love watching the evolution of TR's shop.

You can get yellow extension forks for your walkie stacker unit FYI and then you would not have to pay for lift gate service it would handle that long pallet
They slip on and off just put them on when needed. Amazon or ULINE

I do need to get those. But I need new wheels for it. The drive wheel is so worn the machine sits like 1/2” off the ground so it frames out very easily. So I don’t think I could make it to the road at the moment. Lol which most trucks that deliver freight deliver with a full size semi truck.

In a workshop you gotta clean your filters almost weekly, the fans build up static electricity and overpower the statitc filters when they get dirty, ie the dirt just goes through the unit and sticks to the fan.
