I've always liked this movie because it's both a tribute to and spoof of the surfer movies Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello did in the 1960's.
Growing up and watching this movie over and over and over again wearing out the VHS tape, I never knew who Dick Dale was and always thought it was Dave Thomas from SCTV Strange Brew days.
I love this movie so freaking much!!!!! Favorite childhood movie! Annette Funicello and Connie Stevens are so hot in this.

Watching scenes of this 1980 film we feel just half the nostalgia than the one we felt in the 1980s when this film made us remember the 1960s. Under this Math 40 is half 20.

The movie was intentionally done with tongue in cheek... Had more fun watching often with my two little kids.... Great old motors. Annette was already having rough health problems and only Frankie could talk her into doing it. Really brave on her part. Sure love seeing Connie Stevens and her together.. And wow , the real Dick Dale!!!

Back to the Beach is my all time summer "go to" movie. Just pure fun. This a serious jam.
From the very first "Beach Party" up to this "Back To The Beach" movie, Frankie and Annette sure do bring back a million memories of our happy teen years....my kids, nephews and nieces laugh when they see me watch these movies but I don't mind. They don't know what they're missing!!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie because it's SO SO SO STUPID! Of course it was made to be a spoof. I wish I had counted how many times I've watched this thing on VHS, Cable, and DVD since it was released on VHS. I have the DVD now, and the preview is not on the special features. I wish it was. Thumbs up if you wish it was too.

I love this movie. Used to be on HBO a lot too from like 90-93ish. So we recorded it of course. Used to watch it all the time. I remember always doing the Frankie line of sandy, my little baby, my hunny bunny, my lamby wammy. I always thought Frankie was hilarious in this. Just overall the movie was super fun and funny. Also always made me want to go to California and be there.
They should have allowed Annette to sing this song. She does a killer job with her rendition!

This is a case of the naked emperor. People claim this movie was great, reminded them of their childhood, was nostalgic. But it was none of those things. It was a bomb when it came out. It's awful. It's nothing like the beach movies. It tries to harken back and at the same time to parody. it ends up doing neither.
Yeeah, one opinion. Actually, it was a great return to the best of what made "beach movies" great, and a double feature of this and Surf II would put you over the top. Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello, Connie Stevens, DIck Dale, Stevie Ray Vaughn,,,it's great.

Booooooooo👎👎👎👎👎 way to be a buzzkill. I'm only kidding but I think the film did exactly what it set out to do Which was give some nostalgic fun to the people that came up with surf movies and to expose a new young audience to the surf/fun/beach/California motif. Neither of those demographics took the movie as seriously as you are. The movie got good reviews, made a little money in theatres, and made a ton more through home video. It was so friggin fun. I'm 34 btw, I loved it then and I love it now.
